Clayton Geathers

This all could be the media making something out of nothing but it is interesting. Does anyone know if he has been working out with the team? I haven't seen any videos of him and obviously no interviews. If for some reason he was still not recovered due to his neck injury it could be a decent blow to the defense.

This is why I haven't been too concerned with those griping over what we will do with Green and Butler. I feel as if Geathers will miss some time this season; probably something around four games. With that being said, he is definitely a better safety than Tj.

I see Butler reinforcing the FS position, and Green perhaps transitioning to more of a SS role. He has the frame for it; he just needs to put a little more weight on his frame; whilst hopefully maintaining speed.

I'd be lying if I said this didn't concern me a bit.  Had neck fusion myself and things have been good so far for me but I don't pay football either.  My left arm is about 90% of my right.  Hopefully he didn't have any weakness or nerve damage.

This article pretty much says the same but shows him with a boot on his right leg while sitting in a golf cart.  Does anyone know if this is a recent photo?

No that was last year during training camp. It was a non football related injury then.

Some guys come back from it, like Ahmad Bradshaw did. Some don't. They really are the trickiest of injuries.

Man, this really puts a damper on a pretty good offseason. I hope he comes back better than ever, but neck surgery is no joke and with the way he plays, I hope it was just a minor thing that needed addressed. Wish him the best of luck, he was really starting to come into his own and really added versatility to our defense!

Clayton Geathers, the Colts’ hard-hitting strong safety and one of their few returning starters on defense, is sidelined after surgery to address a late-season neck injury, the team announced Tuesday.

I'd say this was a bit of a nudge to draft Hooker. Interesting news.

Good thing with all these bigger corners is that we can possibly move one to safety if needs be. I wasn't counting on Geathers to be the answer at SS for our future. I just saw the writing on the wall. That said I was hoping to see everyone healthy to start the season. I really really am hoping to see Green take that step up this year. He doesn't have to be an all pro so soon but if he can tighten things up and not be a liability...we could have a nice tandem for many years with Hooker.

If this his recovery turns in to case of uncertainty, is it plausible to trade Moncrief for some young talent in the secondary? I think we could really get a star player for him, but it would hurt our offense in the process.

What makes you think anyone is trading a star player for Moncrief? That's not happening you might be able to get a guy with all the tools  who hasn't put it all together yet

I agree.. it seems (I don't know the actual stat) that CG is hurt and on the sideline more than he plays.  I hate that- for us and for him.  He is good already and you would think he is only going to get better.  I hope he has that chance.

Seems like we have had more than our share of injury prone players.  That may be because I pay more attention to our roster than other teams, but really it does feel that way.

It's a shame for sure. And unlike Howell, Geathers is actually a good player who's flashed big play potential. However I can't help but be reminded that we still could've drafted Collins in the first and perhaps wouldn't be having this issue.

    • Any chance we take a OT with the 1st pick?
    • FWIW:   Today I listened to a guy from The Athletic interviewed on ESPN.   (Darren Lee). He said interviewing GMs at the combine, almost all view DeJean as a safety except two teams.  He thinks the Colts and Jags view DeJean as a corner.     I don’t know this reporter, never seen him before, so I can’t speak to his credibility.  But it sounds like he did a lot of homework.     And I appreciate your view on pro day times being reliable or not.   I’m always skeptical on pro days.  But I thought DeJean helped himself on his testing.
    • I could care less what he does. Been too long ago.
    • I’m with ya..     I'm not sure we’re going WR at 15 either.  I think we could go DE, and it’s possible we could go CB as well.   Gosh,  I love Mitchell and really like Arnold as well.  And if we trade back I would be fine with McKinstry or a DE on defense or one of the 2nd tier of WRs that could be there in the 20’s.  So many options.   I keep reminding myself, every pick could produce a surprise, because I think Ballard will have so many options to choose from.      Im also not sure Ballard will use all 7 rounds.   He finished in 5 rounds in his first draft 2017,  and he finished in 6 rounds in 2019.   Maybe he uses all 7 rounds, but I’m not confident we will.     One week from tonight.
    • My Final Mock Draft   15. Brock Bowers, TE,  6’4 245 Lbs, Georgia - Blue Chip Prospect.  Rare combination of acceleration, speed and body control. Hands-catcher operating with good coordination and technique. With Pittman on the outside Bowers will control the middle of the field and seams. AR Will develop much quicker into a top 10 QB with Bowers as his TE.  46. TJ Tampa, CB, 6’1, 190 Lbs, Iowa State - Elite physical traits. Plays with good positioning throughout routes. Very good in press Coverage and Zone. Expect him to compete in training camp and be named a starter.      82. Calen Bullock, S, 6’2 190 lbs, USC - Elite physical traits. He has the range to play single-high safety, the athleticism to line up over the slot and the ball skills to chalk up impressive on-ball production. Expect him to compete in training camp for the starting S position.    117. Tez Walker,  WR,  6’2 195 Lbs, UNC - Elite speed with very good body control. Career average of 30.7 yards on touchdown receptions. Gives us very good depth and competition with Pierce.    151. Grayson Murphy, DE, 6’3 260 Lbs, UCLA - Shows impressive quickness and change of direction to help turn speed to power as a rusher. Good depth.    191.  Keaton Bills, G, 6’5 320 Lbs, Utah - Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front. Very good depth.
