Reuben Foster just failed a drug test [Merge]

Recommended Posts

OK.....

To recap....    he's got bad shoulders....

He's failed at least one drug test....

And the latest buzz is the NFL has concerns over the people that Foster hangs out with........

I think we have our candidate for 1st round player who might fall further than some think...

I'm not saying he falls out of the first round -- but he might -- only that once upon a time he was looked at by some as a top-5 guy.      Then it became top-10.      Then top-15 with Indy a possibility.

Now?      Who knows?

EDIT:    I just read that the failed drug test was at the COMBINE!!

I'll never understand kids who can't stay clean enough to be drug free at the combine.       You know when it is...    it's on the calendar.      you know how long you have to be off he stuff.

And you STILL fail the test?

No thanks..........

Alright, this was the guy I have always wanted but it's becoming very clear he doesn't know how to be a functional human.

1st Round to 3rd Day or UDFA?

I could see a slip to the upper to mid 2nd, but no further. With it being a diluted sample vs an outright positive test for a substance, I can see a team pulling the trigger in the 2nd. I'm fine without taking him, but that also means Reddick becomes the #1 ILB prospect and most likely is gone by 15...

Yes

I just checked NFLs official document on this. As diluted sample isn't that rare, and in Olympic sports testing it happens quite often and isn't punished in anyway; but in NFL drug testing program, the criteria is very low so if one has that dilute sample, it's probably because some sort of diuretic/masking agent has been used.

Being very sick is another option but not sure that's the case here.

Do you guys even know how to read? It's a diluted sample.

I also like his attitude regarding the "failed" drug test. It's hard to tell whether he actually has food poisoning, but the way he approached it was nice. If he falls to 15, I definitely want him there.

He is pretty sure now to fall to #15  what a dilemma. Did he cheat?  it looks like it but this could stink of a character issue so take him or not???

Diluted sample is a failed test?

In pretty much every facet of life, yes.

(EDIT: Just wanted to mention I wasn't trying to be condescending, I just read it a second time and wanted to make it clear my intention)

So sad to see a guy who had so much talent sabotage his future like this. Really liked the guy before all this crap came rolling down hill, and now more just keeps coming.

I worked in a drug rehab court program as an intern, it happens ALL. THE. TIME.  And they get called out on it with other people in the program in an effort to basically tell everyone else, "Hey, we know you drank too much water on purpose.  We can tell, so just don't do it or you'll get in more trouble for trying to evade it."  They knew they were getting tested, they were told not to drink over a certain amount within x hours before testing, but people did it anyway.

Couldn't agree more.  Speaks to plain old intelligence (or lack of it) or to some character flaw that is preventing him from making poor decisions.  Either one will eventually affect his play.

Yes, because people know how to avoid positive samples.  People do it all the time and its that reason that diluted samples are treated as positives.  This isn't some ground breaking concept.  It happens all the time in drug rehab programs because people seem to think they can get away with it (some actually do).  In their mind, i'ts better to drink too much water and hope to get away with it than go into a test and admit defeat.

So when there's a diluted sample (and this is ESPECIALLY true when you know you are getting one), a diluted sample is rightfully treated as a positive result.  You are told beforehand not to drink to X amount water within X time before your test or it will dilute the sample and be treated as a positive.  If you go in and give a diluted sample, chances are, you're trying to cheat the results.

So yes, we know how to read.  We just know what it means when the sample is diluted.

Sure they did and that will never change.  I am "positive" RF knew he was getting tested too...and he also was aware of what you are saying...  maybe this was part of his aggravation prior to getting sent home.... he knew he would test positive.  Too bad, he is a good LBr..... someone will deal with it though just like always.

Edited by BR-549
abbreviated for positive which I didn't expect to trigger the content filter, lol

The scary part is that Drug Screening at the combine is not new

That's a bit of an overstatement.

Yeah, this will drop his draft stock a bit - not sure how far.  It's always a toss up.  Tunsil dropped like 10 picks or something.  Randy Gregory dropped almost 2 rounds.  If I recall, Gregory tested positive at the combine, while Tunsil's was an old video.  So I'm thinking this is more like Gregory.  He may not drop that far because I think Gregory already had some weed busts on his record, but I wouldn't be surprised if Foster dropped a full round.

If the doctors gave the thumbs up I would still take him.  I couldn't care less about his argument with some nurse or whatever.

    • Barkley is still only a human. Unless we improve our O-line significantly, it doesn't matter who our RB is. With the depth of this RB class, I would be unhappy if they pick Bradley. I still hope they trade down and pick Nelson, who's also "a generational talent". Unless our O-line get fixed, we won't turn things around. Make Norwell the best paid lineman in the league and draft Nelson, and we'll be set for a long time, and Luck won't get killed. Then pick up a good RB prospect in the second round (remember we'll have traded down, and gotten an extra second rounder for certain).
    •   Overall, an excellent post, but I really want to focus on this part. Though even if Barkley didn't have this issue, I still wouldn't take him at #3.. I don't think RB is worth it.   Barkley doesn't hit lanes inside hard, with violence of someone like Gurley who was just savage at it in college. He tries to bounce outside, to an open space, where he is absolutely fantastic so it's understandable. Just as a pure runner, I don't think he's the best RB prospect to come out in recent years. If the hole isn't there inside, he has bad tendency to stop moving his feet. As you said, can it be coached out of him? And why does it happen. Is he little soft? Overcompensating for bad O-line? Or something else that can be coached out of him?   College football is different than NFL and though Barkley obviously had bad OL, the decision making before LOS for RB is crucial imo. That's one thing where prospects can be evaluated equally, no matter what scheme, competition or OL talent they run behind.   So.. Maybe Barkley won't be bell-cow back? But more like Reggie Bush? Reggie Bush didn't become a great runner until later in his career when his athleticism had declined. How soon will it happen with Barkley? However, there is no denying his athleticism and talent as a receiver. So the ideal usage for him might be more similar to how many scatbacks are used.. But he would probably be even bigger mismatch in the passing game and better runner than best scatbacks in the game today (Lewis, White, Riddick etc.). Or just bigger, more athletic and better pure runner than McCaffrey. I'd actually be more willing to use high pick on that kind of player than RB like Gurley, Elliott and Fournette.
    • It's a different situation because they didn't have the quarterback. We (hopefully!) do.   Look at the way the league is trending. It's all about building a defense that can limit the opposition or having a quarterback who can elevate the play of those around him. If you have both them you're basically the Pats.    Between 2011 and 2016 we spent only 5 of a possible 18 high draft picks on defense (with 4 of those being 3rd rounders!!!) and we've basically been swimming again at the tide of the NFL.   I've never seen a fan base so occupied with offense. It's time to look at what the Championship teams are doing and replicate it.
    • Unless they value the top 3 QBs exactly the same it would be stupid to take Saquan 1st overall and be left with 2nd or 3rd choice at QB.
