Derek Rivers, EDGE Youngstown State: Film Study

Here's film study of Derek Rivers from Younstown state by Matt Waldman and Justis Mosqueda:

 

 

The kid looks INCREDIBLY impressive athletically. Seems to need some coaching and some counter inside moves, but MY OH MY is he freaky speed-wise.

 

Mosqueda thinks he's worth a first round pick. If we can get him in the second, this might be a steal.

 

What are your thoughts on him?

A YSU guy in the second round!  Time to celebrate.

 

Pelini has brought in some good coaches, so he's not totally raw.  One of the Stoops brothers was the D coordinator and he brought a Nebraska coach with him for the LBs.

 

Depending who our first round pick is, I'd love him at 2.  3 would be a real steal.

He's a guy I really liked.  Definitely explosive.  You worry about his size, but he can play.

He's got good enough size, 6'4'' 248 lbs. That's ample for a 3-4 OLB, if he gains 7 lbs to 255 before the start of next season.

He and Jordan Willis are vastly underrated by this forum. Everyone talks about Bowser and his potential, but the former actually has a track record of success, along with desire.

I watched one of his games expecting to be wowed, but wasn't. On paper, with his athleticism, production, and measurables he's a good fit for us though.
