The 2017 Colts Forum Mock Draft

1,393 posts in this topic

Welcome to the 2017 forum mock draft.  This is the second one we've done this year, with the first being dedicated to our good friend @Gavin (http://forums.colts.com/topic/50515-gavin-mock-draft-gm-game-round-1/)

Rules:

1) We're going to try and do as many rounds as possible so we can simulate the draft to the best of our abilities.  Since the draft isn't for a couple more weeks, this should be plenty of time to get at least 4 rounds in

2) Trades are allowed and can include players or this year's draft picks; as with the real draft, comp picks can be traded this year.  Future draft picks cannot be traded since they don't have any bearing in what happens in this mock

3) Please discuss all trades via PM.  All agreed trades will require public acknowledgement in this thread from both GMs involved

4) Because we have three weeks until the actual draft, we will try to give people the necessary amount of time.  As such, time limits will be as follows:

Round 1: maximum 6 hours per pick

Round 2: maximum 4 hours per pick

Round 3-7: maximum 3 hours per pick

5) In the event that a GM does not submit a pick in the time limit, they will be given the consensus highest ranked prospect from the big board that makes sense for their team (eg. the Titans wouldn't be given a QB in round one or two) based on a vote/discussion.  Because of the vote/discussion, they might not be given the highest ranked prospect available, but could be given someone within the top 5 or 10 remaining top prospects.

6) The draft will begin on Monday, April 10 at 8 AM EST.  This will give everyone the weekend to discuss trades and set their boards over the weekend.

7) This thread will contain the picks for the whole draft; I won't be making separate threads for each round.  At the end, I'll post the final results.

8) I will be keeping the topic as updated as possible and I will be using the Fanspeak big board to list the available remaining prospects

9) In the event that I don't log on for an extended period of time, @WarGhost21 and @tweezy32 are assisting in running this draft and can help answer questions.  If you know you will be away when you're on the clock, feel free to submit your picks to any of the three of us

@CR91 just take Garrett and move things a long.   The Brown's already have a ton of picks,  I don't see them moving back and losing out on garrett

I'm not saying I will definitely trade it, just fielding offers and weighing options! I'll probably be keeping it unless something blows me out of the water!

So if everyone takes the entire 6 hours,  we may be done before the actual draft

Saints wish to move down in rounds 2 or 3 to gain more picks. PM me with trade offers.

For a quick approximate reference, Saints' 2nd round pick value No.42 - 480, 3rd round pick value No.76 - 210

Will respond quickly, I promise and won't consume much of your time if you wish to reciprocate with quick timely responses. :)

Also, open to trading compensatory picks of the Seahawks as well for moving up or down. :)

Again,  trades make zero sense in a one season mock.   I could make an offer like every pick in the 18 draft to move up.  There is no consequences for future seasons.  It's dumb

As long as we do trades differently i.e all trades done by Monday and no trades during the draft, it can definitely work. I've seen it done right on other forums, regardless of how you feel about it.

No trades of future picks or players are being used as per the rules!

To be fair, you're criticizing zero consequence trades in a "mock" draft.  In case you arent catching my drift, you're criticizing fake trades in a fake draft as if the trades arent realistic in a realistic draft. Just sayin...

Let's not make it like we're playing poker with no cash to buy in. Trades shouldn't happen before the draft, and if they do their in private conversation. Smh!

Are we trading players in this draft? @21isSuperman

Yeah, it's a fun added wrinkle.  In last year's, we had the Cowboys trade for Adrian Peterson, so I thought it would be fun to allow it this year too.  Players and this year's draft picks can be traded, but future draft picks cannot

I highly suggest the top 10 posters with picks send a top 5 list of available players they want via pm to any of the 3 running this mock. It helps the draft go by faster.

    •   As long as it is not a typo, I will be prepared.
    •   I saw that too.  I can make it work, but I thought we were doing Sunday, September 3rd, in the afternoon?   No?
    • No prob. I think colt and pat fans can get along.  Did i just say that?  I threw up a lil in my mouth just thinking about it. The pats are easy to hate. (For the rest of the league)
    •   Michael Phelps challenges whale to race
    •   I was just pointing out when I look at stats, I will look to see what makes up the stats, how are the stats come by, are the stats effected by things like play calling (run the ball in the end zone or pass it), coaching (are you a passing team or a ball control team) etc.  Then i can get a better gauge on stat as to whether or not, and to what extent, I think that it is reflective of the intrinsic value contributed by a player.  Drew Brees throws over 5000 yards a handful of times, and so on.    With Passing yards and passing TDs, there is element where a player has an opportunity to garner these stats and not necessarily by his own skill.   If Team A (like the Pats in SB 51) are trailing (or are in shootout and need to keep scoring as its D is a sieve and keeps yielding score for score) in say 12 games, then the offense on that team will still be running and gunning till the end of the game in 12 games. And in the other 4 games they are in control and the offense and the team are trying run out the clock.  And say the team throws for an extra 80-100 yards and 1 TD on average in those 12 games they will throw an additional 1000 yards and 12 TDs.   Lets flip it around and say Team B is the exact opposite and is in a shootout for 4 games and running out the clock in 12 games and all else is the same.  Well they with throw for an additional 400 yards and 4 TDs.   And lets add that we know that each QB can do the same regardless of which team he is on.    We will have at the end of the season QB for Team A will of had an opportunity to put up 600 more passing yards and 8 passing TDs.  So if the two end up as follows:   QB Team A:  4600 yards, 38 TDs QB Team B:   4000 yards, 30 TDs   As first look it looks like QB on Team A is the "better" QB, but when we look to the above, understand that either QB could do same on the other team, the separation is not attributed to intrinsic talent of the QB but merely the fact that one more opportunities to cumulate stats.     And this is just a illustration to show my point.  it could just as easily be just 4 games versus 1 game where each thrown for 150 yards each and 1 TD and thus the overall difference would be 450 yards and 3 TDs, and so on.   So that is why i would like to be able get our hands around stats similar to the above to get a better gauges on the end yearly numbers.   My sense in reading some responses is that the colts did not have a good a defense as the pats, that they had more offensive weapons; and as such, likely might of found themselves in Team A's situation more times than Team B's.  I do not mean 12 games, but what ever it is, be nice to know it to get a more weighted value in the end.    Btw, i loved what you did with the comparisons and looked to each player against their contemporaries and that gives a better gauge then trying to compare  a player from 2014 to one in 1982.
