Can't wait until you guys realize how good Luck is. He has TY Hilton, and other weapons. We may have the best O-line yet. I'm skeptical about the defense as I wish he would have nabbed real playmakers but we still have a shot at Poe. Minter. And a top CB or pass rusher in the draft.

Poe would probably get about 500 or so snaps. Minter was let go for Karlos Dansby.
Do you have any Blue face paint left from last season. Go Blue!

i will be 73 on may 21, i lived in maryland in 1953 when my father took me to a colts game and i have been a colts fan ever since. i have lived in several cities which had teams st louis during the coryell years which had the best o-line i ever saw, finny, banks dobler young and dierdorf, new york when they won it with parcells, tampa bay doug williams was qb in 1981, i rooted for those teams but i was always a colts fan first because that was my first team

That's amazing that you've been not only a fan of the game for that long but also remained loyal to the Colts through all their history despite living in cities with such great teams...

You're only 21 Gabriel??? Wow. You've been a very insightful poster on here for years. So that really shocks me you're that young bro. I'm 27

Thanks but I just try to offer my honest opinion on anything Football related on these forums. I'm mostly a soccer player but I did Kick/punt for 4 years in HighSchool so I like to think I know something...lol

That's why I said then after bringing in big time FA's you start building through the draft. If you draft right you don't have cap issues. you let the guys you sign go in 3-4 years and re-sign your own guys.

That's directly backward. No team has ever had success doing it that way.

I get your point Supe. I just don't have the patience. It literally makes me sick thinking about the team we could have had.

Just being fair, everyone who has been paying attention the last five years knows the Colts missed some opportunities. We all regret that the roster isn't further along at this point. But you can't change the past, no matter how hard you try, and regardless how far along we probably should be, you don't build a program with sustained success without some patience. Shortcuts don't work.

That doesn't mean it wouldn't work though Supe. Its just different from team to team.

I didn't say no one has ever tried. We have solid evidence that it doesn't work, and no evidence that it does.

It doesn't take any special discernment to recognize that it wouldn't work.

That's why I said Hightower is more valuable than Poe. But I think if we bring Poe in and pay him 9+ million a year, I'm confident he will be out there 80% of the snaps.

Agreed. But in his defense, FA's have helped some teams. They have hurt other teams. The game has also changed a lot in the last 10 years. Players are less loyal than they used to be IMO. Teams trade away allow their star players to hit the market, because of a change in scheme fit, or unable to pay pay them/extend them. It is a hit or miss game. But I don't see anything wrong with trying it. As long as we are smart about it. How "being smart about it" is defined is up for debate. I think you want the core of your team through the draft, but some FA's can also make a big difference. They can sometimes be a little shortcut if you have a star QB that can already lead your team to the playoffs(or close to the playoffs) practically by himself.

Well, to answer the question of the OP, it seems we do indeed. We already added some very talented, exiting young players, with high ceiling, and the draft hasn't even finished yet. I'm excited. :)

(Still, imo, this thread went a bit too far arguing about HOW the Colts should build its roster. There's no point to draw a strong line between free agency and draft, and say, one is the way to go, and the other is not. The way to build a good roster is to find talents in every possible way. Including drafts, including free agency, including trades, including scouting in europe, africa, whatever. Ballard has to utilize all of the resources he pozesses to achieve his goal. If its money to pay a high profile free agent who can make difference, then its money. If its a draft pick, then its a draft pick. If its a trade, then its a trade. If its a scout team sent overseas, then its a scout team. Use them all. And use them wisely.)
