Updated OP. Still pending details on Al Woods.

If Holder is accurate , maybe about 16-17 mill left figuring the draft and keeping 3-4 mill on hand ? I'm thinking unless we signed Hankins who is said to be asking way too much money , we'll have a pretty good carry over. Same looks to be true for at least 8-9 other teams.

That's an understatement . We have V Davis who is on the injury list every week. Hip .. then an ankle .. then a foot and then a groin. Nice player but it's been like this for 2 years and when 7-8 year vets start this "trend" , often it just doesn't end. After him we have Melvin who I would call a #4 CB. Butler can't play outside and they plan on playing him at safety.  I guess when you consider Robinson was either hurt or terrible other than a couple weeks , it's much like last year ?

Draft is rich in DB's but we need a pass rusher , NT a future RB and another TE wouldn't hurt. I guess just too many holes too fill in 1 year. It's said to be a deep draft and one trade back would give us 8 picks.

We could trade for Richard Sherman. I am not really serious but we could??

Trade and draft looks to be about it ? Shields has serious concussion issues and Flowers is the wrong side of 30. I don't see a lot left in free agency but maybe I'm missing a player or 2 ?

I would love to pair Sherman up with Vontae but the Seahawks would probably want a bunch of high picks for him. He is only 29.

Might make a lot of sense if our roster were a bit better . He's under contract for 2 years at 11 mill per season , so not bad there. But still pretty iffy considering we are probably a couple years from contending.

Already updated by @Superman on the front page for Butler but a little more info:

Per Aaron Wilson, Darius Butler 3M, 1.5M bonus, 2.5M guaranteed, salary 1M guaranteed, 31,250 per game active, 1.5M Pro Bowl-PT, interception incentive

Because of the incentives, I'm noting his cap hit as $4.5m. I doubt he hits them all, but might as well account for them now.

Definitely, especially since it is a one year deal, there is no reason not to include non-guaranteed money.

Didn't mean to quote Superman twice but just wanted to inform you guys in case you didn't know that WFAN in NY reported the Giants currently have the highest contract offer out to resign Hankins but he still wants more. I would not count him coming here but the Giants probably did not see themselves resigning JPP and Hankins this offseason either so never say never.

Down to 13.604 million left  to sign FA's not counting the Brandon Williams contract

I don't think there's much more (of significance) that Ballard's interested in doing. If he wanted he could create more room by looking at Jones and even Ayers. Plus he could turn some of those roster bonuses into signing bonuses. I know most are aware of this , I'm just making a point that if he wanted to sign players like Brown or Hankins , cap room really is not a deal breaker.

Added Fortunato, no details, I'm assuming rookie minimum, and he'll have no meaningful impact on cap status. Weird signing, IMO.

Updated with details on Aiken, still waiting on Woods. Once Woods' cap hit is known, I'm going to do a full calculation.

What if it's 3? Then I have to go back and do it all over again, adjusting for that .5. I have to maximize my resources... :)

Can't we just subtract 500K and be done ?  BTW you had a good call on the type FA's Ballard would sign.  Aiken deal was about right , we figured like 6.5 for 2 years which probably would have been pretty close to the # if it were a 2 year deal.

Just updated. To get @dw49 to stop calling me a lazy bum, I estimated Woods at $2.5m and Fortunato at $500k.

Until we get details stating otherwise, the Colts have approximately $25.6m remaining cap space. This does not include in season buffer or practice squad. It does include draft picks.

You appear to be right on spotrac numbers ... not the higher over the cap . No actually you are a little higher than Spotrac as they appear to have 25.4 without Woods ? But there are other factors that adjust that final # here and there I think. Good job and thank you.

Did you realize that it looks to be every dime of guaranteed money for all new contracts including Doyle and Sheard only has guaranteed money in year one ? None of the 2017 signings had cap implications past 2017.

Yup. No guarantees beyond Year 1, no cap penalties if anyone is cut.

Only Aiken and Williams received signing bonuses, but they both have one year deals, so there's no issue there.

Sheard I think is the key to this FA class. Did you read the piece in Stampede Blue ? If true , he played lights out in 2015 but not so great in 2016. Hopefully last year was just "messed" up ? But if we get the Sheard that's not so good , we just say adios ?

I think John Simon is going to be the biggest FA in this class but both together I'm pretty happy about.

Oh.. I agree with you. I think he's ( Simon) the best singing by far. I was just saying the biggest "gamble" or "question mark"we made was the Sheard signing. He could be worth the 8 mill or he could be a bad signing. That's why I considered him the "key" to a good offseason.

Yeah .. not even a small guaranteed roster bonus in any of those deals.

Definitely, if he's not even close to 2015, he can't stay. He has a guarantee trigger on the 5th day of the 2018 league year.

If he's back to his 2015 form -- which is the level at which he played at times in Cleveland -- then he'll be our primary Rush backer. He's not good enough to be the primary Rush backer for a good defense, so we're still deficient, but he can help, for sure. I really just see him as a younger Walden, maybe better, since Walden only had good sack production in one season.

Yes , he's not the answer to our pass rush woes but if he plays well , he'll help. As to the Walden comparison , I think if he plays up to what he did in previous "good years" , he sets the edge better than Walden ?

I think he's probably more disciplined on the edge than Walden, but I don't think they used him primarily on the weak or strong side. We almost always put Walden on the strong side, especially on early downs. But if Sheard is more consistent setting the edge against varied alignments, then if we're going to play him on the weak side mostly (assuming Simon is the Sam, and he definitely is more disciplined and consistent setting the edge than Walden), it should make his job a little easier, in theory.
