I had this idea. I almost mocked Mingo to us in my big mock, but went with Jarvis Jones instead. Mingo can probably play ILB also, though. Interesting signing, I think.

I would consider this a depth signing with hopes that he shows why he was highly regarded coming out of College.  I am neither upset or jubilant in regards to this and hope for the best.

Why do people name their kids something boring like "Barkevious?"  Probably had 3 other kids named Barkevious in his class growing up.  So confusing.

Please define depth signing when our current linebackers are undrafted free agents and Akeem Ayers?? As things stand now he's a starter.

I always thought of Mingo as strictly a pass rush specialist. 

But statistically, Mingo has not gotten it done as far as sacks go.

They struck out on Perry and had to improvise so this is fine. I wonder if they still bring Erik Walden back after he tests his market value or they emphasize getting younger.

 

This has no impact on the draft obviously as Mingo has shown no ability yet.

I would have to assume that if the season started tomorrow, Barkevious and Ayers would be starting as our two outside linebackers.

I know right, almost as bad as naming your kid something boring like Ha-Ha. Especially if you got a last name as generic as Clinton Dix.

Lol, please define?  What are you the "thought police"?  You don't give a player a one year deal at that price and expect him to be your starter....geez.  Free Agency JUST started and we still have the draft.

I really like this mostly because of the contract. Might do nothing for us, maybe we get the best out of him. If he ends up in the middle, plays average compared to his potential, he still can be a situational pass rusher. Hope Robert Mathis will put some work in with this kid, all the athletic ability just needs polish.

Except when you have no other linebackers currently on the roster.  As I said as things stand right now our starting olb would be Mingo and Ayers.

I liked Sheard better but hard to argue with a 1 yr deal for a bag of peanuts. No problem...still looking for a starting OLB however.

Barkevious Mingo - LB - Colts

Colts signed OLB Barkevious Mingo to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.

It's surprising. Claimed off the scrap heap from the Browns last summer, Mingo played just 54 snaps for the Patriots. The Colts must have high hopes for Mingo on special teams. Mingo is versatile at linebacker, and boasts theoretical pass-rushing upside. He's still only 27 years old (in October). The Colts will hope they've found a late bloomer.
