lmao maybe, Ballard is getting rid of everyone else over 30 which its good to get younger. 31 isn't real old but that is the edge of a DB's prime.

Glad Butler is back.

I loved when he sealed the deal against the Seahawks in the Super Bowl!

I'd wager Mike Adams has a productive solid season in Carolina.

Not hard to do. That defense stinks now

He should easily stand out, but we'll see

He should be our starting FS, full time all year. I think he can kill it as a roaming FS.

Good signing. We need to keep some veterans who already know how this defense works. I wouldn't mind bringing Walden back as well if it is a similar contract and he plays a backup role.

I like the signing. He is a glue guy that can help hold that secondary together. Helps solidify the safety group and can cover the slot for us. A nice veteran to help mentor and be a calming factor on the back half. It makes me feel better (not that is the Colts concern) to have him a safety valve to plug in.

I'm very happy about this, we will have a decent safety tandem in the back, if we can sure up the opposite side of Davis we will be good to go.

I'm fine with Butler being one of the leaders on D as long as it is from the sidelines, the slot or S.

I wanted to see McDougland signed at S. He can play either spot so we should like that. That could still happen.

I don't see Butler being asked to play LCB. He'll play slot and S and do real well there. I think we draft a new CB to replace the hole that has been there since Pagano arrived.

Melvin is on his way but not there yet

From the games I seen out of Melvin, he will look quite a bit better with quicker and consistent pressure applied by our front. I like what Melvin showed out there last year, much better than what Robinson gave us by far. He could be one of the late bloomer cb's

Well, 3 guys that we felt needed to be re-signed were Doyle, Turbin and Butler. We got them all re-signed.

Normally, when Colts players leave for free agency and take other visits, they rarely come back. This would also mean that Ballard is not low balling them and giving them a fair offer that they start realizing once they shop around and come back. He may also be asking them to let him know if they want him to match an offer with another team should they want to stay with the Colts.

These re-signings make me trust Ballard, at least for now with valuing existing Colts players correctly. $6 mil. would have been too much for him at his age, maybe if he was 3-4 years younger, and if he was worth more, other teams he paid visits to would have offered it.

I'm happy to see Butler back. I wouldn't have been upset with a 2 year contract with similar incentive driven type language put into it. If he hits whatever clauses he has in his contract and makes 4.5, he will have done an excellent job in his role and that's good for both. That means we probably do this again next year too if we don't get some new prospects at fs. Welcome back Butler, we have flexibility this season at FS and slot.

If he hits his incentives to earn 4.5 for the season, its probably because he began starting at FS midseason and Green was benched.

I hope he earns 4.5.

I'm glad he's behind a green screen so we can put his face on everything.

    • I like the assessment. I would personally include Mingo in pleasant surprises, the guy is all around the ball all the time, he is rejuvinated it seems with us after lackluster play in Cleveland and NE. I also would include Mack in pleasant surprises as i believe we have only seen glimpses of the REAL Mack attack yet due to the coaches not playing him, i understand we have a proven veteran RB on the team, after this season when Gore leaves im fully confident Mack will assume the number 1 role and become a top 5 running back in the league. Then lastly i would put the Oline in dissapointments, as you stated nobody expected them to blow anyone away but i personally dont think anyone expected them to be as bad as the have been either.
    • Geathers was having a great season last year under monachino before his neck injury I think he will be fine he needs to play more man to man.
    •   ^^^ ban this user!! ^^^
    • It was the only show I watched or listened to on ESPN. Now that they are no longer a team I will have no need to tune into ESPN at all.
    • I think you have done a very nice assessment of our teams progress and where we are right now.  Most of the teams improvement has come on the defensive side of the ball coming from additions and improvement from our young players.  The loss of Luck for the year and the hurried assimilation of Brissett to the lineup certainly has not helped the offense meet our preseason expectations.  I read where Doyle was second in the league in receptions among TE's before the Pittsburgh game.  A stat that blew me away actually.  Who knows what a healthy Luck and a better OL  would have done for Moncrief and the rest of the WR's.   I think you have to congratulate the coaches for this progress and continued improvement that we have seen from this team.  They have gotten better and that's what we are looking for.  It might be a lost season record wise but if you are looking at player and overall team development you have to be pleased with the great progress they have made this year.  No one is happy with the record but you can not ignore the overall improvements that have been achieved.  Everyone is looking forward to new coaches next year but this years staff has done some pretty impressive work teaching and improving the overall contributions of our players.
