What young FS do we have? Butler is a solid ball-hawking safety who still has a year or two of prime. That being said if he walks, I'd like to see a true FS in the first 3 rounds. TJ Green is not a true FS, he'd be better used as a match up nickel corner. Put him on athletic TEs or big WRs

I'm sure we'd draft one. May sign one, who knows?

But I do know there's a 99.9% chance Butler will not have a horseshoe on his helmet next season based off of what Ballard has said & done thusfar

Those odds are a bit absurd. The "getting younger & faster" movement doesn't exclude us from resigning Butler. He's not that old and was fantastic at safety last year when he played it.

Blindly going with that approach is silly. You don't pass up veteran leadership, in a position of need, especially when it's someone that knows your system and can still play at a high level. You also can't have complete roster turnover of your vets, because those are the guys you lean on to help teach the younger guys.

If he agrees to a reasonable deal, there's no reason he's not back.

How do you possibly think Clayton is a FS? He's a box safety not a deep center field safety.

In which way was he the best cover safety on our team?

You mean he was better than Adams and Butler?

Do you have anything that supports this?

Idk about the best but he's really good. That's not even his strength he plays the run a lot better. I love Clayton if he can stay healthy he'll be one of the best SS in the league

Tweetek

    1.

I've gotten a lot of Darius Butler questions. My response: don't close the door on him returning to the #Colts just yet.

That's about as far as I can go right now. Anything more would be speculation. #Colts

Holder is a credible source to me.

I'd like to see Butler on our team again very much, but this is on 2 parties.

  • Stephen Holder mentions that the Colts haven’t closed the door on possibly bringing back free agent DB Darius Butler. However, Holder can’t say for sure a return to Indianapolis is a serious option.

Per Jason La Canfora, Colts will re-sign Darius Butler today to a 1 year deal.

Besides the re-signing of Doyle that is the best thing I've heard or has happened this off-season for the Colts. Play the man at FS and occasionally at slot corner if needed until green is ready to take the ropes. He's a fighter,  indy has never gave him more than a 2 year deal but he always seems to make it on back on our squad. The sad thing is when you have 50 million to spend and Butler is one of the best players signed. Oh well, we'll see what Ballard has done for the Colts after the draft. Sorry, rant over, moral of the story I'm happy to have Butler back.

Nice. Unless we bring in another safety, or Green shows much improvement, Butler should be starting next to Geathers, IMO.

I guess it's a nice re-sign though, hope we draft another safety this year just in case Project Green doesn't work out

OK Chris Ballard, you're starting to redeem yourself :)

Happy to see one of my top 5 favorite Colts players back.

Good to see him back and he's switching to safety which should help. Curious what we're doing with our corner spots now. Draft is lacking in that department.

    • I agree. As long as that that person is answering it like an opinion and everyone realizes it's an opinion, then everything is solid. It gets when people are telling opinions as facts that it starts to head south. You see plenty of both, but it's usually just a lot of debating from my point of view. Some good points of view, and some bad ones, but as long as we all acknowledge these point of views as opinions when they are, then I see nothing wrong with it. I think it just gets out of control when there are rumors, mostly during FA and the draft, and people take it out of context at times, myself included.
    •   Well.....   There's good conversation and then there's.....      NOT so good conversation.   And this website has plenty of both.     I'd love to have more of the good kind and less of the NOT so good kind.   Deciding now that a poster here --- any poster here --- knows what Chris Ballard thinks of a player is ridiculous because none of us knows anything.    Ballard may love the guy.    He may like the guy.    He may not like him.   But nobody knows.      So, stating as fact that Ballard doesn't like someone is a dog that just won't hunt.....
    • Things went our way tonight all around. Pacers win, Hawks and Bucks lose. Now there is a 3 way tie for 5th. It will be interesting to see how we finish.   Bad night with injuries for this team though. We already knew GR3 hurt his calf in practice and then Stuckey and Al Jefferson go down tonight. I actually want to see more Brooks/Ellis/Miles and more Christmas so hopefully they can pick up momentum if we can make the playoffs.
    • I wouldn't call it a flaw at all. In fact, it's the main premise that a sports forum is built around. Trying to put pieces of the puzzle together on certain things and predicting the future. That's how conversation is started a lot of the time in particular and it keeps people engaged. Without people jumping to conclusions with little evidence, it'd just be people reporting facts on twitter and chat on gameday, which wouldn't be a lot of fun by itself.
