Each GM may list just their picks for discussion if they wish.

Mine are those for the New England Patriots:

Round 1. Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama

Round 2. Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech

Round 3. Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA

Round 3 Comp. pick: Vincent Taylor, DT, Oklahoma State

Round 4: Daeshon Hall, OLB/DE, Texas A & M

Round 4: John Johnson, S, Boston College

Solid draft for the champs, if you ask me. :peek:

I don't like Cam Robinson in the first. I don't like Bucky Hodges in the second either. I like Moreau and I like the rest of the picks. Kind of conflicted about your Patriots draft.

Which means I did good as a Colts fan :)  ???

When Bucky goes up and gets TDs from Tom like Gronk, everyone will go, not another red-zone TE :)

Hodges is not even a TE. Almost 100% of his snaps are of him lining up as a WR. He's like a huge WR, who cannot block and probably is not fast enough to play WR in the league. I don't know. We'll see how he tests. I just think there are better TEs in this class.

We will see. The upside, whether true or not, is what I had in mind, he is rated the 4th TE on nfl.com and the first 3 were gone.

Funny that someone else thought he'd go with NE's 2nd round pick in the comments. :)  Anyways, good discussion.

Round 1: Obi Melifonwu, SS, UConn

Round 2: Marcus Williams, FS, Utah

Round 3: Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

Round 4: Shelton Gibson, WR, Western Michigan

I feel I had the most "think-outside-the-box" draft. I fixed the safety position for the Bucs and grabbed Doug Martin's replacement, along with a talented deep threat to complement Mike Evans.

For my Colts draft, I thought with what I had to work with, I had a decent draft addressing needs at CB, OLB, and RB. Again, if I had it my way I would have traded down a time or two to get a few extra picks to address more needs.

1 - Sidney Jones, CB, Washington (might be the best pure cover corner this draft)

2 - Carl Lawson, DE/OLB, Auburn (has the potential to be a double digit sack guy)

3 - Dawuane Smoot, DE/OLB, Illinois (Needs to develop his overall game but has loads of potential)

4 - Jeremy McNichols, RB, Boise State (Quiet possibly the best receiving back this year, and has been said to be the best RB out of Boise State)

4 - Marlon Mack, RB, USF (Gives Indy additional talent in the backfield and has explosion to him which Indy lacks)

I like every pick but the Smoot one and I wonder if that would be a good spot for Kendall Beckwith, ILB, just my personal opinion. Other than that, very good draft for the Colts, IMO.

Oakland Raiders

24.    Caleb Brantley, DT, Florida

56.    Justin Evans, S, Texas A&M

88.    Howard Wilson, CB, University of Houston

130.  Wayne Gallman, RB, Clemson

Overall I think a good draft.  I wasn't able to hit on the one major need at Inside Linebacker.  Jarrad Davis was available, but a huge reach at #24.  I might've taken Kendell Beckwith or Anthony Walker at 88, but only Alex Anzalone was there and I didn't trust his health at all.  ILB value just wasn't there all draft long.

My pick @56 itself was probably on the high range of where he should be drafted, but I don't think it's a bad reach if at all.  He's rangy, explosive, and the knocks on him are coachable.  He needs to add a little weight, but the kid brings the boom and the Raiders could use an enforcer over the middle.  He's a Jimmie Ward type prospect with a better ceiling in coverage and more explosive.    It'll take some time for him to get there, but his ceiling is higher than some of his draft grades would indicate.  Late 2nd Early 3rd is where I think he'll go, (NFL.com has him in the early 60s and ESPN has him ranked in the 70s by ESPN).

Howard Wilson is another potential starter in my book and this pick was BPA that also happened to fill a need.  He's a 3rd round guy most likely, but he can play press man, off man, and he has a skillset similar to William Jackson III.

At 130, I was going to go BPA which was a no brainer for me with Larry Ogunjobi.  But since I had drafted a DT, and especially because this is just a mock draft, I thought I'd draft a position of need instead.  Gallman is not a 3 down back candidate.  He could be that someday, but it will take a couple of years.  What I like about him is that he is a hard runner who can move a pile, but he's got enough wiggle to make guys miss at the second level.  The Raiders run a primarily power blocking scheme with some zone principles which is great because that's what Clemson also does.  Gallman should find himself right at home in Oakland where he can grab the ball and go with little reading responsibilities. Gallman wasn't ustilized in the passing game much, but with Mike Williams, Deon Cain, Artavis Scott, Jordan Leggett, its not hard to see why he wasn't used as much, particularly when your QB is also a threat to run the ball - which he typically chose rather than hit his safety valve.  Gallman won't be elite in the passing game, but he has some tools to work with.

Overall, not the sexiest draft, I have to dock myself a couple of points for reaching a tad on Justin Evans and not being able to get an ILB, but Brantley fills one of their biggest needs, a pass rushing interior DL with run stopping abilities, I've beefed up their secondary and perhaps got a steal, but at least a good scheme fit with Gallman.

I probably give this draft a B to B-minus

Arizona (7-8-1)

  1. Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan
  2. DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
  3. Kevin King, CB, Washington
  4. Conor McDermott, OT, UCLA

I think I addressed some of the Cardinals biggest needs while drafting bpa.  Taco can be a game changer with the type of versatility to either stand up or put his hand in the dirt.  With uncertainty surrounding the impending free agency status of Campbell and Jones, Taco would provide major insurance as it seems highly unlikely the Cards will be able to retain both.

I like the value Kizer offered in the middle of 2.  Arians would be very wise to place an understudy beneath Palmer  sooner rather than later and to get one of this caliber would be ideal.

Kevin King and Conor McDermott fill needs on both sides of the ball.  Very balanced.  In subsequent rounds I would target WR, ILB, OL & DL bpa.

New Orleans Saints Draft

Round 1 - Solomon Thomas DE

Round 2 - Dan Feeney OG

Round 3 - Cameron Sutton CB

Round 4 - Tyus Bowser DE/OLB

-I think Thomas slots in as the DE opposite Jordan, creating a sack duo that could be top of the league.

- Feeney steps in as the replacement at RG for Jahri Evans and they dont miss a beat on the line.

- I was between Sutton and Kevin King for this pick, but ultimately decided on Sutton as I think he has the better chance to work his way up and play on the outside, whereas I think King might be a career slot guy.

- Bowser is one of my favorite prospects in this draft. I was baffled that he was around at this point and thought he was a surefire 3rd round pick. He shows a little bit of everything - Pass rush skills, run defense, coverage ability. He is a great player for Dennis Allens defense as Allen likes to create pressure from different areas and covets players who can both rush and cover so that he can achieve this. Players like Thomas and Bowser, who can be moved around, are perfect for confusing QBs and creating mismatches.

In order for the Saints to come away with a much improved defense, they will need to lock up Nick Fairley before/during free agency, and would probably need to grab some depth at safety after they release Byrd, as they do tend to run 3 safety sets similar to our defense. A shutdown CB would help as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if they ran with what they had and hoped that a better front 7 and pass rush would improve the CB play, not to mention they have a ton of players coming off injury who could help.

On offense, the Saints could look for a TE if they arent happy with Fleener/Hill, as well as a RB if they do not resign Hightower or Cadet. A QB to eventually take over for Brees would be nice, but chances of getting one this year are not very high.

Interested to hear what you guys think.

Personally didn't like the Marlon Mack pick. You could have went with Reeves-Maybin at LB, or a defensive lineman. 2 RBs that close together seems a bit overzealous. Personally I'd take Wilson over Jones at CB but the draft was fine. Maybe Perrine over McNichols though.

7/10

With no first round pick and a need to address holes in the trenches, the Vikings draft class was not expected to wow anyone. Let's take a look at who we drafted:

#46 Carlos Watkins, DL, Clemson (BPA at a position of need. We are likely to move on from Sharrif Floyd -- I hope not -- but drafting a DL gives us some flexibility there.)

#80 Ethan Pocic, C, LSU (That is my favorite pick. After missing out on some of my favorite OTs  and guards, I was pleased to get him. He can play C or G.)

#86 D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas (Probably my least favorite pick but we need a RB and I did not like anyone else there. I would have preferred to trade down... If he drops, I want the Vikes to draft Kamara. If this draft went a few more rounds, I would have tried to draft Donnel Pumphrey from San Diego St.)

#122 Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU (I have drafted him in many Fanspeak mock drafts. I like LSU wideouts. We don't have great WRs but this was not a need. I just wanted Dupre.)

#129 Adam Bisnowaty, OT, Pittsburgh (With this pick, I am going back to addressing a major need.)

It will be interesting to see how our draft picks change after the Combine and after our teams pick up free agents. Let's do this again! :)

I think you got great value for the picks at the spot you picked them. All of them will contribute easily, IMO, except for maybe the OG because the position at least takes a couple of years to settle into the NFL because the big fat uglies on an NFL regimen on the DL side tend to be stronger, even if they are just as big.

I really like the Eagles draft

Probably the best offensive draft of all GMs, IMO. Carson Wentz should be able to spread it around just fine along with making the second year jump. Plus, those skill position guys typically contribute faster from college than other positions.

You will still need another year for the D to take the next step to elite because Schwartz has to bring pressure to sometimes make up for a lot of shortcomings which for the most part has worked but not consistently.

Something tells me Awuzie may not be there. Good draft for Detroit.

Really happy with Obi Melifonwu at the combine, who I selected in the first round here for the Bucs. Blew me away and I knew he was a stud already.

Not sure if his competition works against him. Byron Jones did get drafted by the Cowboys late in round 1 from the same school.

  • 3 weeks later...

Every year from now on, the first Forum-wide Mock Draft should always be called the Gavin Mock Draft in memory and honor of the great man!!

In other notes, since only the first mock each year is to be called this, we need to come up with a name for our second one here soon. Wanted everyone's ideas!!
