Over the cap is very good at predicting these.  They where spot on with the Coby Fleener pick.  

 

Despite the fact that it's suppose to be a secret as to how they do it, I think it's an open secret to where it can be predicted by anyone who's paying close enough attention.

The formula has several nuances, but the salary he signed for is the main obvious base point.
Unfortunately he didn`t have a great year which could have bumped his slotting.
  16 comp picks allotted ahead of our pick, dang that is a lot of payers to be chosen ahead of us. lol

good news for sure. Wasn't 100% guaranteed we had the pick. Broncos were projected higher picks than what they got, and no 7ths were projected, and 3 were handed out. So no one ever knows for sure. Just glad the prediction on our end was accurate.

 

Now we can all start worrying about the coin flip at the combine for the 14th or 15th pick, lol! :)

I believe Freeman asked to be cut.

 

It's not clear why,  but I don't think it was our idea.     If I remember correctly,  it was his.

Over the long term, it evens out. There are only 256 regular season coin flips a year, plus playoffs, so such a small sample size over a number of years can be somewhat lopsided. Over a million coin flips though in the long term, it would probably be close to 50/50. We will just never see the long term.

I agree, it just depends on if guys like Foster (injury) fall, Solomon Thomas, Derek Barnett, and Dalvin Cook if we are interested. I would guess at least one of these guys falls to us, but you never know. If they don't, we should definitely trade down.

I still dont don't like the idea of comp picks though. Especially in the 3rd round.

We would of probably got a 4th, but that's just a guess. Rather have two 4ths than a 4th and Allen though. Could of used them both to get an rb tandem.

If we absolutely had to id make that swap. 

That being said, it sounds like they just want out of his contract and could just end up releasing him. Id lowball them first (conditional 2018 7th round pick). Chances are they take that over nothing.

Really I didn't know they might just flat out cut him, thought I heard they wanted a 4 for him. The lower the pick the better, but even the comp 4th is still great value. Freaky athlete who does struggle in coverage but that's why we drop Clayton on 3rd. Pair him next to good cover ILB like Zach Brown or Sean Spence and ILB goes from a weakness to a strength

From the report I read:

"Still, the report says the Eagles think they can find a team interested in trading for him. If they can’t, they’d likely release him with a post-June 1 designation."

I would assume he will have a few teams calling and asking about him, but I would throw out a lowball offer to start when I first called to check availability. If they bite, then all the better for us. If not, then we hit the negotiation table and go from there.

Agreed! I think he's the ideal Mike in a 3-4. We should seriously consider make that move

I wouldnt consider him an elite talent, but he can be a solid player, and with a defense as talent deficient as we are, solid will due wonders. Especially if it can be had for a late 4th round pick (or later).

Yes not a pro bowl talent but with a hopefully improved front 5 he's the side line to side line type Mike we covet. But not even a 3 down backer would need our Will to be good in coverage.

It seems to start as just a man for man comparison. "You lost three UFAs, you signed two UFAs, you'll be eligible for 1 comp pick." After that, they start comparing the contracts, playing time, performance, awards, etc., to figure out when you'll get your comp pick. 

 

OTC has Freeman cancelling out Robinson (similar contracts, believe it or not), and Lowery cancelling out Tolzien. So those players and their achievements and playing time don't even factor in. Bottom line is we lost Fleener and didn't sign any UFA that paralleled his contract, so we are eligible for a comp pick to make up for that loss. Then they look at the value of Fleener's contract and his production/achievements, slot it with the other eligible players, and determine which of the 32ish comp picks we get.

I don't think they figure in how good of a year they had period.  Too hard to do because you would have to compare players across positions.  

 

I mean how do you compare a DL and his stats with a WR???  And what stats do you use for an OL?

      The Buckner extension is a tell that Ballard is preparing for a possible trade. It could be climbing the draft order or trading for a veteran player along with his draft pick. Whatever it is, you know the decision will have a major impact this season.

      Another thing to note is the man had 17 tds in the SEC on a team where he wasn't even the primary receiver. He did this with Nabers on the team. So imagine what that looks like in these games where teams want to double Pittman.

      He is genuine. What you see is who he is. Challenged in learning the trade through his father, he was wise to have guys like Polian to help him. He was lucky to draft Manning and his short stint with Luck. Hopefully his next break is Steichen and Richardson. He has given enough rope for Ballard to climb out of his past decision.  I hope his daughters are sorting things out to take over within the next 5 years.

      Final Rough Draft…   (Yes on trading up a few spots)   Round 1 - #15(trade up) A. Terrion Arnold-CB(ALA) B. Dallas Turner-Edge(ALA) C. Nate Wiggins-CB(CLEM)   *Unless Colts trade up to take top WR,  Defense needs more help all around. I think Bowers(Jets)/QMitchell won’t fall to 15 and Colts could trade up for Turner!   Round 2 - #46 A. Bralen Trice-Edge(WASH) B. Kool-Aid Mckinstry-CB(ALA) C. Braden Fiske-DL(FSU)   *Kool-Aid could maybe fall this far if teams were to still question his foot injury, and Colts should take him here if they go Offense rnd 1. I think Trice would be an absolute steal here even though his measureables weren't great at the combine. He was though one of the most productive Ends in the country last year. Khyree Jackson-CB(ORE)   *Corley, I can see as a perfect fit for Colts here. He’s not a top level wr in this draft, but just under that level. Good YAC wr that reminds me a little of Garçon. I put Bullard/Jackson this rnd even though they may not fall this far, but Colts have visited with them.   Round 4 - #117 A. Audric Estime-RB(ND) B. Brenden Rice-WR(USC) C. Mason McCormick-OG(SDSU) *Most have Colts taking the LVille rb, but I would love them to take Estime! Even though Im a homer with ND players. He would be a great #2 rb behind our OL! Colts should also take a chance on Jerrys kid with hopes of some similarities of his pops!   Round 5 - #151 A. Zac Zinter-OG(MICH) B. Roger Rosengarten-OT(WASH) C. Luke McCaffrey-WR(RICE)   *McCormick/Zinter/Rosengarten would all fit well with OL depth here. Im not 100% sold on if Kelly will ever be at his best ever again, and I still dont like the depth at RG/RT. Smith needs to remain healthy all season long! This is an extremely important year to keep our QB healthy when in the pocket! Also, why not take a chance on a McCaffrey? Hopefully Luke can be as skilled as his brothers!   Round 6 - #191 A.
