Wow.  There are at least two of us!

Realistically speaking, this team is a long ways from being a contender in anything, the last 2 seasons proved that. We over achieved the prior 2 or 3 seasons. It's gonna take a new gm,new coach and staff, hell of alot more talent on the roster than there is/has been which will take a few years atleast. I'm sure like always I will get ridiculed once again but oh well can't help I look at things with an un biased realistic view.

I feel like a great running back, an addition to the DL, a strong no 2 corner, and a pass rusher makes us a contender.

I think the O line might be better than Avg next year.

Anderson, Ridgeway, and Langford are solid. We need a big nasty run stopper.

Lbs are a mess

The secondary with Butler, Green, Geathers is solid at Safety.

Davis is fine at CB1, we have a decent slot corner.

I really don't think we are that far away. What I do think is we will not be able to beat NE in the playoffs with Pagano and his staff gameplaning. We need a few big free agents, a good draft, and a new coach. And we will be up there as favorites for the division and with the AFC best again.

We need an upgrade at NT An immediate replacement for Mathis and DQ. A CB who can play the boundary. If we can add those 4 things to the D we will be much better.

The O could use an upgrade at RB. Hunt Williams McGuire day 3 would be fine with me.  The right side of the OL needs sorted probably a RG is needed.

If iwe can find those 6 players we will be a much improved team. We would definitely compete for the division Once in the playoffs anything can happen

I agree reason to have hope. With a new staff. I love Chuck he's a great guy, but hasn't showed himself to be a reliable coach, he's a great motivator though. We gave him chances to improve, Irsay did, but he didn't have the roster to. I wish him sucess with his next job,if he were to to be fired. It will be sad to see him go,he's a hero and fighter, surviving cancer like that, a inspiration. He's very positive. Let's get this Lombardi trophy to Colts Nation, and to Andrew Luck who more then deserves it.

We are 3 hits in the draft from being a contender. in no particular order, but ALL need to be pruductive.:

#1  Pass rusher.  This is obvious to everyone. Walden was a nice emergence this year, but we didn't get as much pressure from the line as most would have hoped for.  (a lot of that due to injuries also)

#2 a Cornerback.  We desperately NEED a 2nd corner opposite Vonte.  We would then be set even if Pops Adams is not resigned.  Geathers/ Butler/ Green (after some tackling and peruite angle work in the offseason) can make up the safety position.  Robinson needs to be back at nickle where he belongs.

#3:  A Running Back.  Gore does his job, but man,...he's 33....:(  And I just don't see a cowbell running back on the team after him.

Those positions get filled, we can be a solid team overall.  I honestly don't think we need more O-line help.  I think we have them in house now,..just more time and coaching.  They got better and better as the year went on.  Other than RB...i honestly think we are set at all the other offensive positions..I think Defense should be our 90% concern this offseason.  Mainly because of a few stats:

#1 10th overall offense in the NFL.

#2 1/2 of our games (8 for those who can't devide by 2...lol) we against top 10 defenses...and yet we still 8th in the NFL in points per game, averaging 25.7.

#3 We were the 4th best passing team in the NFL.

there are others, but i woun't bore you....

Defensively,..We need help,..mainly against the pass.   Colts have shown multiple times over that they can stop the run if the have 7+ in the box...it's when they have to drop into a nickle pachage, they get chewed up on the ground.  when they think it's a run..they have stopped for little/no/ or loss of yardage many times.  Getting a pass rush, and another corner to help in the passing game helps the front 7 worry about the run, and not worry they need to help by dropping someone else back give help where they are deficient.

Since the Peyton Manning years to today: two Super Bowl appearances, one win over the Bears (who?) and one loss to the Saints. If Super Bowls were food the Colts would be deceased. The model will always be Belichick /NE and until the Colts can be entered in the same state as the best then stop hoping and dreaming. Leave that to Irsay because that is all he is good at. Don't even think of bring up divisional championships without admitting the competition was pathetic and lifeless. "To be the best you must beat the best."

The more I think about it, the more hope I have for the 2017 season. They have money for a good defensive starter maybe 2. And draft defense first two rounds and just hit on your picks.

That's probably perfect scenario but it could easily happen and the colts would be a good team.(hopefully)

We bred a new O-line this year..3 rookies started..

Mewhort is coming back ...so we'll have line depth.

We're loaded at TE and WR..our RB defies time..and our QB is ready.

We don't have a pressing need for offensive help...or in the kicking game

WE need help at all 3 levels on defense.....draft or free agents.....almost doesnt matter where..

Like jbaron says: Best player available

I dont want major coaching changes right now.......we played well on the road...

we lost the key game we had won against Houston..but we won at Minnesota and GB (still don't know how)

we're close to getting back on to of the division

You want hope for next season?        I'll give everyone here hope.     But this is not --- repeat, NOT --- a prediction.

I've been a fan here now for 5 years,  and a few years ago,  a streak unique to the NFL was stopped.

For approx 8 or 9 years,  one team that finished dead last in its conference turned around and the very next year won the division.     Worst to First in one season.      And it happened 8 or 9 years in a row.

Think about that for a moment.

I keep writing,   stuff happens in the NFL.    And you know what "stuff" means?

Players get hurt,  players get better.    Teams draft well,   other teams draft poorly.     And just like that,  you can go from worst to first.     It can be done.

And this wasn't some anomaly.    This has happened many times before in the league.     It happens.

Again,  this is not a prediction of what will happen in 2017.      I'm just saying don't get locked in to other teams automatically being better than the Colts.

It's the beauty of sports.      It's why we play the games.

Enjoy the journey!     Enjoy the ride!

Hopefully that gives everyone here reason to be optimistic!

    • Rick Venturi today on the radio said he is more of a fan of speed with corners then what Ballard has done. He said young corners have to be able to recover from mistakes. I would almost like rodgers instead of Brent’s.
    • BBZ, what do you mean when you say Brents will be successfully targeted because of his size and speed? Aren't those his good traits?
    • Right. But we also are expected to draft a corner, So the fact that DeJean can play either position, makes me think Ballard could have his eye on him.
    • As a Ballard type player, he seems to fit the bill.  Big 10. Excels at zone coverage. Elite athlete. Special Teams standout, Good tackler. etc. Colts may be able to trade back, and still land DeJean   Considered one of the Safest picks. Seven 2024 NFL Draft Prospects Who Are Safest Bets to Succeed at Next Level https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10113875-7-2024-nfl-draft-prospects-who-are-safest-bets-to-succeed-at-next-level   DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa   A fractured fibula during a November practice tempered any excitement regarding Cooper DeJean's draft status. So he's not been in the same conversations as the class' top defensive backs, specifically Toledo's Quinyon Mitchell and Alabama's Terrion Arnold. DeJean's profile projects just as well or better than the aforementioned cornerbacks.   Three specific attributes set DeJean's floor higher than anyone else among the back end.   First, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year presents the positional flexibility and traits to start at cornerback or safety at the professional level, with B/R's Cory Giddings highlighting his coverage skills:   "DeJean excels in zone coverage, but he's versatile enough to play man as well. He shows a smooth backpedal and the ability to keep his leverage and quick footwork with few wasted steps. Although he transitions well, there are times where DeJean hops into his breaks; allowing a step of separation.   "When in zone, DeJean does a great job of reading and reacting to the quarterback's eyes. Pairing that skill set with his route recognition, he often puts himself in good position with leverage and positioning.   "While working downfield, DeJean has the strength necessary to hand-fight with tight ends and bigger receivers, as well as the speed necessary to carry twitchier receivers downfield. He also does a very good job of locating the ball and playing through the catch point."   Second, the high school track standout is an elite athlete who captured Iowa state titles in the long jump and 100-meter dash. Many expected him to blow the doors off Lucas Oil Stadium. Unfortunately, he wasn't ready to test in Indianapolis after being cleared a few weeks earlier.   "His acceleration is incredibly fluid and super powerful," NFL combine trainer Jordan Luallen told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman last summer. "He's the best athlete I've seen in person, pound for pound."   Finally, DeJean adds significant value as an elite collegiate returner. Big Ten coaches also awarded him Return Specialist of the Year this past season. DeJean averaged 13.1 yards per punt return over the last two seasons. A top-notch contributor anywhere along the defensive backfield and on special teams will provide excellent value in the NFL.   Potential Landing Spots: Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles
    • He could, but I think he's way more athletic than people give him credit for and projects way better as CB. Definitely could be a good safety, but I think if we drafted him, he fits well as a boundary corner for us.
