Colts Vs. Jaguars Game Day Thread

Happy New Year,  Colts Nation!  :)     But not entirely happy to  Colts fans  everywhere, as our 2016 Indianapolis Colts are unfoturnately out of the hunt to reach the NFL Playoffs in 2016, since their loss at the Oakland Raiders on December 24.   Colts will try to defeat the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars, with interim coach Doug Marrone at LOS.   A  Colts victory would also equal their   2015 regular season  win total at 8-8  again in 2016.

Colts in the past won the AFC South Divison titles with identical 11-5 records in three consecutive seasons, but could not crack beyond 11 wins since the 2009 Colts team won 14 games.

This afternoon will also be outside linebacker Robert Mathis's  last game as an Indianapolis Colt, announced this past week his retirement as an active player in the NFL.  Mathis was drafted from Alabama A&M in 2003.  Among many of his achievements  was earning an NFL championship ring with the  Colts team that won Super Bowl XLI,  and both earning and awarded the AFC Defensive Player Of The Year after the 2013 NFL season, and setting the team record with his 128 career sacks.  Mathis is a popular player to Colts fans and and I felt he earned, and certainly deserves  his name in the Colts Ring Of Honor, and perhaps the NFL Pro Football Hall Of Fame, for both his service and achievements.  Well done. Robert!

LOS's roof is closed for the 1:05P.M. Eastern Standard Time finale, because sunny skies at 40 degrees, feels like 36 degrees, is the game forecast outside the stadium area in Downtown Indianapolis, along with 0% precipitation, 65% humidity, and  mild southeastern winds at 6 miles per hour.

NO injuries, a pleasure posting the Game Day Threads for the 2016 Indianapolis Colts Preseason Schedule, Happy New Year to the Colts Nation as we all enter 2017, win one more game to even your 2016 NFL regular season record again at 8-8, and  for one more game, GO COLTS!!!!!   :coltslogo:     :cheer:     :1colts:    :colts::coltshelmet:   :cheer:  :coltslogo:

Almost game time, let's do this !!!

On an unrelated note, I got a phone call earlier from my sis in law, she thinks my brother has had a stroke :(  He spent from the end of august thru the early part of november in and out of the hospital and rehab. Not the news I wanted to hear on New year's day.

It's still early but I think even if we win it should be. That Houston loss here did it for me. I defended him like crazy all season up until that game.

Thanks again, LOS!

JlynRN: prayers for a speedy recovery for your brother.  Just another reminder of how our disappointment in our Colts not being in the postseason should be tempered with what is truly important in life.

I hope we keep it close all game and barely win, so we get the W and hopefully Pagano will still get fired!

I just don't see the reason everyone in the media keeps splitting them up fire them both and be done. Screw keeping either of them.

So sorry for you and your family. I have a brother who was recently diagnosed with a form of very early onset dementia. We need sports for an escape but also reminds us how unimportant they are in the larger scheme of things.

Sorry to hear about your brother, it's rough I know :( My brother has a bad heart, but a transplant at this time is not an option.

About to be 10-0, we are just going through the motions today. A sign of a team quitting on their Coach.

    • Round 1 - #15 A: Budda Baker FS – Bob Sanders comparison...need we say more.  Longevity of safeties in the NFL playing into their mid-30s has proven return on investment thus this is our wisest selection here.  Too many other teams also in dire need at FS and chances of landing either Budda Baker or Marcus Williams in Round 2 looking more like a long shot.  Two years without a valid starting FS is unacceptable imo B: Hasson Reddick OLB – With offseason movements no long a pressing need imo but definitely would be an upgrade. C: Chidobe Awuzie RCB – imo one of the best right corners in this year’s draft and immediate defensive improvement.  Experienced at playing the outside, slot and even safety.   Round 2 - #46 A:  Kevin King RCB – Darius Butler replacement that can play FS as well. B: Marcus Williams FS – At some point we need to address FS needs.    Round 3 - #80 A: Duke Riley LB – early on my watch list and have enjoyed seeing his draft stock rise. Duke should give RILB Edwin Jackson competition as a full-time starter. B: Joe Mixon RB – Would be a draft steal to obtain a talented running back here.  Although am holding any RB projections off until next year’s draft with futures on RB Saquon Barkley.   Round 4 - #122 A: Jack Butt TE – obviously a glaring need to add roster depth with a talented TE B: Pat Elflein C/OG – offensive line depth   Round 4 - #137 A: Ryan Switzer Slot WR – Someone needs to push Phillip Dorsett as a full time starter. B:  George Kittle TE – team need to add roster depth   Round 4 - #144 A: Lorenzo Jerome SS – imo Lorenzo has been overlooked and is one of the better strong safeties with the skill set to be a Day 1 starter. B:  Matt Milano LILB – we need roster help on our left interior side.  Matt has a strong chance to be a full-time starter when healthy.   Round 5 - #158 A: Josh Carraway OLB B: Danny Isidora ROG   Free Agents: 3 choices: James Quick Slot WR (2013 MVP U.S. Army All American Bowl) Joey Ivie NT Marcus Oliver ILB - multiple defensive player of the game accolades
    • Not even gonna say anything about this
    • It's having a personal opinion... Why would I put somebody at #1 if I don't think they're the #1 there? Sure it causes controversy among this forum, but I have better things to do than to fake my opinions
    •   Reddick is my biggest draft crush as an ILB/OLB hybrid. Although Lattimore being available might just be too good to pass up.
    •   Hope some of them won't in the future. Agree. For real, the "Pro day" is a wash for the majority of top-rated players who've attended the Combine and completely useless or a formality for others. It's "purpose", like the combine, is to have college prospects meet with NFL organizations, interview with them, and display their tangible traits on the field. But nothing good comes from the Pro Day, just like the wonderlic test! ["Wonderlic" sounds like this Mystical Lolipop Willy Wonka invented that turns your tongue different colors and renders you to ruminate the finer details of life with each lick, dumb. The only thing more asinine is this crazy test. IT SAYS NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL INTELLIGENCE yet it gets used as an evaluation tool, but many NFL officiais know the test SAYS NOTHING about a potential career.]   Understatement of the year PEYTON "P-Money" MANNING had one of the worst pro day's and I think his football career didn't suffer too much despite it. Speaking of money & the Bottom Line, one of the biggest rewards of a pro-day, like John Ross at combine, is that a prospect can greatly IMPROVE their draft stock = money, by blazing their 40-time (separating themselves from their classmates) or "answering a question", i.e. does "Luck have enough Arm Strength?" then he throws a ball +60 yards in the air going against the wind. -Pssh, such a waste of time for some top guys. What does M. Garrett have to prove/gain from his pro day???   Honestly the pro-day means the most to: players who aren't on a team's radar, did not receive an invite to the combine, or need to display some trait that will get them noticed, drafted, or signed later as an UDFA. That's it! Anything else is superfluous and too much of a formality for me. I think people are starting to realize there are glaring flaws in the Scouting Process, *ESPECIALLY* with Quarterback evaluations. What gets me tripped up is that people think a "40-time" equates = a good football player. ^Check^, Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald 40 times. The overall idea is that a combine, 40 time, and pro day are great to get exposure & higher draft stock = more money$ but this Process is just a game that scouts, agents, and players play to figure out "stock" for a prospect in the draft. But honestly a CB that can COVER receivers and has enough  functional speed -"Polian quote" a la D. King should be drafted higher than a CB who runs 4.3 yet has horrendous technique. What people are missing is that DBs usually don't get burned due to lack of speed; it's lack of technique. Fast corners get burned, see Jason David, and those with proper technique tend to cover receivers. My point is that unless you're making hay and raising your draft stock, = money, sit out and let your tape speak for yourself. I like John Ross' 40 time, but for WRs this year, I think Fred Ross has the best hands in the class and I'd rather have a receiver with Hands than with record-breaking speed.   'When it's 4th and 3, give me the receiver who makes a 1st Down!'
