I missed it. Are they looking good?

They have been hitting but at this point in Spring pitchers seem to be more fine tuning certain pitches , that makes it more predictable to the hitter. So my answer lol is I don't really know. From what I see though your Mets will be an improved offensive club barring injury. The Cards have not fielded an everyday lineup all spring and its by design to help reduce the wear and tear for the long season. That I feel is a wise move , so far there have been no major injuries to report , unlike the last 2 or 3 years it seems like they limped into the start of the season .

Baseball starts April 2nd, cant wait. Cubs at St. Louis. It's been a fun offseason enjoying the Championship, now it's time to get focused on going Back to Back. A lot of challengers like the Cards, Dodgers, Giants, Nats, and Mets in the NL. It should be an interesting ride. I will be curious to see if the Indians will Repeat as AL Champions. RedSox look damn great on paper.

Lester is getting the start for the Cubs at St. Louis on opening day. Jake on day 2.

It is only a couple of weeks away!

Which team's stadium are you nearest to?  You have to go to a game this year. I plan to attend a few games.

I am thinking about going to a Cubs game this year but have no idea when. I am around 2 and a half hours from Wrigley and I have a cousin that lives in Chicago. I have been a fan since the mid 80's and have never gone to a Cubs game. I have been to probably over 40 or so Colts games since the mid 80's but never a Cubs game. I used to go Indianapolis Indians games way back in the late 80's when they had Razor Shines. They were the best Triple AAA team of all-time. They won a bunch of AAA Championships.

You should definitely go to a Cubs games. It may be hard to get tickets. When I visited Chicago about 10 years ago, I could not find tickets.

Unlike you, I have been to many Mets games in Flushing and some games at Yankee Stadium. It is just now that I have begun to attend football games. I have been to at least 75 baseball games but only about 15 football games -- just 2 Vikes games (because I don't live in MN).

I plan on going to a few Cubs games this season. I've been to quite a few, always a GREAT time!!!!! Wouldn't mind driving down to Cincinnati some time and catching a Cubs/Reds game, that would be fun!

Yeah I have a friend here in Indy that has a friend who is a lawyer in Chicago as well. He keeps telling me he can get tickets to a game. My cousin may be able to swing tickets too, she makes real good money and knows alot of people. Like I posted, I have been to at least 40 Colts games and even went to a Colts game when they played the Bears in Chicago back in 2004. Peyton tore them up that day! I have been to a bunch of Pacers games too, my mom had season tickets to the Pacers through her work back in the mid 80's when I was a kid. They weren't very good then but Clark Kellogg was a bad man. I had a friend in highschool, his dad always went to Indianapolis Indians games in the late 80's and those games were fun live. I used to go with him and his dad.

Opening day for the Mets is Monday, April 3rd in NY. I considered taking a personal day to go to the game. When I went to purchase tickets, I could not believe the prices. One would think this was an NFL game. The "best" tickets cost $455. The least expensive was priced at $67, for seats all the way up in the nosebleeds. I think I will wait a few days before buying tickets.

I recall when I paid $31/ticket for field level seats. I took my niece along. She had a Devil Rays player sign a ball for her. That seems like so long ago.

The Mets beat their Opening Day opponent today 3-0. Let's hope they win their opener. :)

Yep. Just a week away now. Now that the season is starting what is your expectations for the Mets? Would you be ok with just making the Playoffs but lose early? or would that be a fail in your eyes? If they get to the WS and lost would you consider it a successful season? or is it WS or bust in your eyes? Now that the Cubs won the WS, anything less than winning the WS with the Roster we have would be disappointing for me. My expectation at worse for the Cubs is at least get back to the WS to have a chance to defend the Championship. It's tough to Repeat so if we fail it wont be the end of the world and I will always have 2016 but it will be disappointing.

I see what you're saying about the Cubs. You expect them to win. I do too but there are several teams that will compete with them.

I don't see the Mets having a strong enough team to go to the World Series. I hope I am wrong. I have confidence in the pitching but we don't score enough runs to take the pressure off them.  One of my biggest concerns for the pitching is that we can't keep guys from stealing bases. That's a problem. I think we can make the playoffs but it will be hard to beat out the Nats who have much more offensive firepower than we do.

Good luck to all our favorite teams. May the best win!

No team has Repeated since 2000 and that was the Dynasty Yankees so the odds are against the Cubs. We are talking 16 seasons (2001-2016) without a back to back. That Yankees team won 3 in a row from 1998-2000.

True and don't expect it to happen this year. Its a tall order , you must make it through the year without major injury , especially to starting pitchers .Hard to do and most teams don't have the depth to overcome , to the Cubs defense  the Farm System might help much as the Cards loaded with good live arms. Injuries to everyday players , same thing you must have solid Farm System and team must have the next man up mentality . The Mets as always have pitching depth and as NFL said must score more runs to keep pressure off the staff .Dont discount the Pirates either. The big thing is the Cubs have money to compete for FAs if they choose so do the Cards . The Yankee dynasty IMO was built because other teams didn't have money to compete with them. I like the more level playing field so to speak that exist today. Sorry for my absents been on vacation . Rarely get on mobile device  . Matt Adams is a reborn man 30 pounds lighter power better than ever . The Cards will find him playing time either at 1rst or outfield  , the Man if healthy fully capable of 40 plus HRs and around 300 avg . I'm glad they didn't shop him for trade NFL as I had mentioned him right before Spring training began. And yes just 2 more days and we start looking forward to it big time.

I know Repeating is very tough so if the Cubs don't, it wouldn't shock me but I do think they are capable of doing it. It's very rare in Baseball, BlueJays did it in 1992/93 and Yankees 1998-2000. Only teams to do it since 1980. A lot of challengers out there like the Dodgers, Giants, Cards, Mets, Nats, and in the AL you have the RedSox and Indians of course.

Sure Brother I know the Cubs are more than capable , its just so many things must go right. There are more than a few really good teams out there , its a long season . All we can do as spectators or Fans is set back and enjoy the ride. It will be fun

A lot of luck is involved when it comes to Baseball, I agree 100%. The Cubs were damn lucky to beat the Indians being down 3-1 and got some breaks in Game 7 to pull that out. Our starting pitching stayed healthy too which is huge, picking up Chap was a blessing. A lot of things have to go your way to win in Baseball. I definitely don't see the Cubs going 103-58 again but once the Post season happens and if they are healthy anything can happen. I thought when Kyle S. got injured last season at the beginning that would hurt the team but it didn't surprisingly. He's healthy now. Losing Fowler and Chap could come back to haunt the Cubbies though?

If you look over the years has the best team in baseball through out the whole season won the WS since lets say 1970 , Id be surprised if the teams with best records won 50 %

They haven't. Usually the team with the best record doesn't win it all. Cubs did last season by the skin of their teeth which made their season even more special. Once the Post season starts it seems like every team has a 50/50 shot anymore. Have to get in first but when you do, you have a shot.

The Mets have about 8 to 9 pitchers that could be starters. We will start the year with Steven Matz on the DL. Hope he comes back soon.

Our rotation to start the year is:

Noah Syndergaard

Jacob deGrom

Matt Harvey

Zach Wheeler

Robert Gsellman

Welcome back, baseball!

Yes there are some really good teams , Lol reason I wont make a prediction until All Star break . It lets me have a feel of where teams are at . What key pieces are missing so on . In all honesty should wait till after Trade deadline. I know the Cards are already set to pick up any key pieces they need at that time. They are serious about this and intend to be there at the end.

    • Rick Venturi today on the radio said he is more of a fan of speed with corners then what Ballard has done. He said young corners have to be able to recover from mistakes. I would almost like rodgers instead of Brent’s.
    • BBZ, what do you mean when you say Brents will be successfully targeted because of his size and speed? Aren't those his good traits?
    • Right. But we also are expected to draft a corner, So the fact that DeJean can play either position, makes me think Ballard could have his eye on him.
    • As a Ballard type player, he seems to fit the bill.  Big 10. Excels at zone coverage. Elite athlete. Special Teams standout, Good tackler. etc. Colts may be able to trade back, and still land DeJean   Considered one of the Safest picks. Seven 2024 NFL Draft Prospects Who Are Safest Bets to Succeed at Next Level https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10113875-7-2024-nfl-draft-prospects-who-are-safest-bets-to-succeed-at-next-level   DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa   A fractured fibula during a November practice tempered any excitement regarding Cooper DeJean's draft status. So he's not been in the same conversations as the class' top defensive backs, specifically Toledo's Quinyon Mitchell and Alabama's Terrion Arnold. DeJean's profile projects just as well or better than the aforementioned cornerbacks.   Three specific attributes set DeJean's floor higher than anyone else among the back end.   First, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year presents the positional flexibility and traits to start at cornerback or safety at the professional level, with B/R's Cory Giddings highlighting his coverage skills:   "DeJean excels in zone coverage, but he's versatile enough to play man as well. He shows a smooth backpedal and the ability to keep his leverage and quick footwork with few wasted steps. Although he transitions well, there are times where DeJean hops into his breaks; allowing a step of separation.   "When in zone, DeJean does a great job of reading and reacting to the quarterback's eyes. Pairing that skill set with his route recognition, he often puts himself in good position with leverage and positioning.   "While working downfield, DeJean has the strength necessary to hand-fight with tight ends and bigger receivers, as well as the speed necessary to carry twitchier receivers downfield. He also does a very good job of locating the ball and playing through the catch point."   Second, the high school track standout is an elite athlete who captured Iowa state titles in the long jump and 100-meter dash. Many expected him to blow the doors off Lucas Oil Stadium. Unfortunately, he wasn't ready to test in Indianapolis after being cleared a few weeks earlier.   "His acceleration is incredibly fluid and super powerful," NFL combine trainer Jordan Luallen told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman last summer. "He's the best athlete I've seen in person, pound for pound."   Finally, DeJean adds significant value as an elite collegiate returner. Big Ten coaches also awarded him Return Specialist of the Year this past season. DeJean averaged 13.1 yards per punt return over the last two seasons. A top-notch contributor anywhere along the defensive backfield and on special teams will provide excellent value in the NFL.   Potential Landing Spots: Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles
    • He could, but I think he's way more athletic than people give him credit for and projects way better as CB. Definitely could be a good safety, but I think if we drafted him, he fits well as a boundary corner for us.
