What I liked about this is that the also showed defensive returns against the offense that also factored into the points given up. Remember earlier in the season there were 3 returns that the O gave up which has been cleaned up. Now this doesn't absolve the D by any means because they're still pretty poor but it does put it into a bit more perspective. So if those were factored in they'd be closer to top 20 in ppg instead of 27th.

We all know that the Colts need an upgraded defense, especially at the linebacker positions, But this kind of context is helpful when trying to judge whether or not the Colts can still be a winning team with this defense. The Colt's D has given up 18 touchdowns, while the first place Raiders have allowed 20, and the first place Falcons have allowed 22.

Something else to add to this: The Colts have played some of the worst offenses in football in Houston, Chicago, and Jacksonville. The only truly good offense this defense has faced is San Diego. When adjusted for this, those numbers look even worse than the Raiders or Falcons numbers, particularly since the Raiders have a bizzarely opportunistic defense that is one of the league leaders in takeaways, tied for 4th with 13 takeways. The Colts are tied for 23rd in this statistic, with only 7 takeaways.

Did you also factor that points for other teams defenses? If not, then you would be comparing apples an oranges.

This colts defense is pure trash, no need for scraping for silver linings in misused and manipulated statistics.
