improved line play? numbers don't seem to support it

To add to this, it's not like we were playing the Falcons pass rush either. We gave Luck almost 3 seconds a play vs the top Defense in the league. 

 

A little perspective: the world class Dallas Cowboys O line gave dak Prescott less time to throw vs the Bears last week. Our line did better vs the Broncos then the best line in football did against the Bears. I'd say thats a promising sign for our young line.

Let's hold off on saying anything too definitive - but it does look to me like the line is just a bit better than last year so far. Yes, not the big jump I was hoping for, but the young linemen will probably get better over the course of this year and the next couple.

All of those "numbers" indicate improved line play.

What's this? Factual evidence comparing last yrs numbers to this yrs? Clearly, you don't know how personal rants work on a football forum. Just messing with you man. Nice work CD!

 

Actual visual evidence shows INDY is improving vs declining at an alarming rate as the narrative suggests. Like NCF said, the growth is slow, but it is there laid out in print. Well done.

Yes, yes, yes!      I've been saying that too.       We're seeing modest improvement,  and while that's good,  we'd all love for it to be much, much more right now.      But that rarely happens.

 

I think the best we can hope for is slow steady improvement week in and week out.....  

 

And then hopefully we get to another level next year,  when I expect Clark to take over from Reitz at RT.

A good OL needs experience playing together in order to build chemistry. 

 

I think all of the pieces for a very good OL (with solid depth) are already on the team. It's just a matter of time and hopefully some good coaching...

 

I hope that nobody was expecting  a bunch of rookie lineman to set the AFC on fire.

Correct 3. Bad math. Our run game really hasn't improved much I don't think. We ran the ball an average of 3.6 ypc last year and now up to 3.9.  which is obviously an improvement but a minimal one. Frank Gores ypc has only went up from 3.7 last year to 3.9

 

However just 3 games in and plenty of games to go

You did notice that Gore had 70 yards by halftime Sunday?

No doubt it was a great half, I wish we would have stuck with running the ball more in the 2nd half than what we did actually. Hopefully its a sign of things to come. I just have to see it to believe it. Its not the first time we have ran the ball well in a half and quit for one reason or another come the 2nd half

I think Gore had 8 carries for 12yards in the 2nd half.....it's not like he was ignored.

Agreed. Reitz has played poorly this year. Very disappointing as he was decent last year. Through 3 games, hes having a hard time blocking anybody.

 

Other than Reitz, the line has been better. They should be a damn good unit in the coming years. Will be fun watching these young guns develop.

You don't need to be a football guru to sèe the line has improved (so far). The stats are good, and support the eye test, but with some solid rookie play already, I'm begining to dream good thoughts. "Shakira, move over please"....

As a Colts Homer Lovin the Blue  & Bricklayer Caveman I'm not exactly a great analyst for me did a lineman let my QB get smacked did they give him a good pocket ? & Time to get rid of the ball ? the game moves fast & my mind not so much its easy to over look things .

 

You get so used to complaining about the O-line sometimes you miss when there actually doing okay its a team sport , 12 sometimes just holds onto the ball to long for various reasons ,  

 

Most here are smarter than me when it comes to football I never played any other than jail house rules tackle in the streets in L.a were the curbs were the out of bounds as a kid .

 

 I was just reading this & going over the numbers it made me think 3 games into the season while I & many here are still complaining about the line they may be better than we fans give them credit for so I'd love to hear what others think about this ...
