Great stuff but you have 54 players. I pretty much agree with this Roster though.

Ya' got Denzelle on there twice?  Is one supposed to be Haeg?  Real possible final 53 - I'm not sure why so many don't think Trevor Bates will make the final 53.  Obviously, the team initially has him above Maggitt and Thompson, as they chose to use a draft pick on him...

i wanted Haeg on there badly I was debating between him and Harrison but this staff loves Harrison so much

Yeah Haeg probably belongs but his Post is pretty accurate. I thought we were going to sign Dwight Freeney?? Still could for 1 season at a cheap price.

I agree, but I cannot wait to see the competition...

It would be a good story if we signed DF!!!

Only surprises are D'Qwell and Arthur Jones being cut, and a lot of young LBs making the roster (hopefully with a lot of ST ability).

Yeah to have him end his career here would be awesome! To me he, along with Mathis and Bob Sanders are the best Defensive players we have ever had here in Indy.

I do not think I will argue this point whatsoever.   :)

Haeg over harrison, take away tyms and add one of the TE. With Allens history I can't see us just rolling with 2 TE. And I'm not sure about McNary I think it might be Sylvester  (may be the wrong spelling...) and I'm not sure about keeping Jalil brown

I personally would like to see some of the UFAs make such a difference that we do not have the same old names on the team.

I am anxious to actually see if Tyms can flourish in Chud's offense.

Yeah, I really like Irving, Moore, and Sylvestre, and I think the opportunity to save a lot of money against the cap will push them to keep the youth instead.  I know it would be a surprise move, but it makes a lot of sense to me.  Unfortunately for Jones, I don't think we'll see the same type of player after two fairly bad season ending injuries at his age (ala Donald Thomas).

Staff may love harrison and he might have been a better guard in the old scheme but he doesn't fit as a zbs guard like haeg does. I think we can rock 5 and can always pull one from p.s if one goes down

Nice job... I made my changes to it in bold.

I have a feeling we'll keep at least 9 OL (I chose 10) due to our injury issues over the years.  If we were to keep 9 instead of 10, I could see us going with a 3rd QB after last year's injury experience.

Here is my practice squad (assumption made that we're only using players on the current 90 man roster -- usually we sign at least one or 2 after other teams cut, and it's always quite possible another team will snag someone off our PS to put on their 53 -- I'd be worried about that happening with Jackson and Miller especially):

WR Tevaun Smith

LB Amarlo Herrera

LB Edwin Jackson

RB Tyler Varga

CB Daniel Davie

OL Kevin Graf

TE Mike Miller

WR MeKale McCay

OL Kitt O'Brien

QB Stephen Morris

Jones, if healthy, IMO, is our best DL.  I am optimistic he'll be OK because his injuries the past 2 years have happened on different ankles, he doesn't have a long history of being injury-prone (IMO, he came back too early 2 seasons ago, and last season's injury was just a freak accident), plus I'm pretty optimistic from what I hear/read about our new strength coach.  Donald Thomas was weak and he was truly injury-prone (IMO).

Also, DQ has been a pro-bowler the past 2 years and has been a pretty darn good player for us. I don't see Sylvestre being an upgrade over him.

I also don't think we're going to be making any big FA signings at all for the remainder of this offseason, so I don't think saving up cap space this year will do us any real good.  I could see us getting rid of him after this season, but no way can I imagine he won't be on the 53 this year.

I think we think we go 4RB's and 3TE's myself

I am surprised anyone would think this.  We have one proven but injury prone #1 TE, a career back-up/3rd teamer/utility blocker in Doyle and completely unproven Swoope.  One injury and we essentially have no downfield receiving threat at TE.  Swoope might be okay in the end zone (I can't imagine what else he'll be good at at this point as nothing supports thinking he's going to be other than wishful thinking), but if Allen is out you really want to roll with two small WR's and Moncrief and that's about it as targets for Luck?

I think not only do we need 4 TE's. (one of which would be a solid Full Back type) but we desperately need a veteran WR with some size in the mix with Dorsett and Hilton and Moncrief.  I think we can count on at least one of those three going down during the season and Allen as well.  We can't be stripped so bare a TE and WR.  There will be plenty of veteran proven solid WR's available during camp, we need to find the right one and we need the security of 4 TE's to start.  If Swoope somehow turns into a monster, then you cut the weak link when you're making the constant roster moves during the season for injury coverage maybe.  But I really hope we don't rely on Swoope to be our 3rd TE with no further backup.

I also hope to God that Harrison doesn't make the roster.  If he did, this draft of 4 o-linemen was an abject failure.  That means more of the same misery on the o-;line next year.  Surely we're now good enough to move past this scrub.

I can't see Jackson getting cut as we are razor thin at ILB, which I think is our weakest unit without him, even worse than our OLB's.  /Sure, he can't pass cover but losing Freeman means his tackling will be a premium need for us.  (I still think that was a critical mistake letting him go... he was always a monster for us and Sio showed nothing last year).

I know these guys are rookies and went undrafted but IMO Darion Griswold and or Mike Miller will become pretty good players if we retain both. After watching the tapes on both of these guys IMO they both have a great upside. Griswold has some great hands and catches in traffic very well. They both have good speed considering their size. One of these guys I think will replace Swoops IMO. We may not be as needing in the TE position as you think? Check out the tape and see what you think.

Doyle will prove to be better than many think. He's was a receiving TE coming out of Western Ky. The NFL.com scouting report called him a fluid athlete who caught the ball like a smaller player had the speed to threaten the seam. Blocking was the part of his game that needed work.

If Chud isn't going to use 2 TE sets often why would we keep 4 TE's? Swoope or Griswold will make the 53 man the other to the PS. Miller could be in the picture but Taylor to the NFL is a big jump to make. I don't see how having 2 TE's that have never played a real NFL snap on the roster is better than 1 on the roster 1 on the PS.

The RB position may fill be the answer to some of your worries. Varga can play FB many thought that maybe his NFL position. Ferguson can play in the slot.

We may add a vet WR to the mix but I think we have some promising young guys.I really like Tevaun Smith. Tyms who's name we are already hearing has 3yrs in the league and is a very good gunner

I agree no way we cut Jackson. His leadership on the D is overlooked.

I disagree about ILB being thinner than OLB. We don't have a back up to Walden with playing experience at OLB. ILB we have DQ with Nate and Sio a year removed from their injuries both should be ready to go. Then Slyvestre our leading tackler last preseason will be back in the mix add Edwin Jackson and Morrison. The 4th rounder we were smarter than the rest of the league for taking. McNary plays inside too and Herrera is back too. There will be some tough decisions at ILB.

We can only keep 53 I don't see how we keep 6 WR's 4TE's 4RB's 3QB's as you suggest. That is why we have a PS so we aren't left bare.

Even if what you say is 100% correct, rookie's simply aren't ready to step up in the NFL, especially ones who couldn't even get drafted based on their college performance.  Sure, a rarity now and then takes off early as an UDFA, but it is a rare exception rather than likely outcome.  We need some solid reliable veteran help as backups.  I am not saying fill the roster with them, but one Vet receiver in the mix (remember, Dorsett had few catches and still has a lot to prove as well) with our 2 main receivers would make be a lot more comfortable than yet more guys with "potential" possibly starting for us by midseason.   Same goes at the TE position.  I bet there will be a solid veteran back up available to compete with Doyle for the second TE spot.  I like Doyle as our third option at TE, not our second.  Sure, if we still had Fleener, then you go 3 TE's, but with one real NFL starting TE, we need more back up safety at that critical position.  I think we showed a lot of success when we utilized our TE's in short dump routes and the red zone.  Swoope is a complete mystery with zero track record, not even in college.  I don't remotely trust him until he's proven and it is too risky to cross our fingers.   And I state again, if we haven't improved PAST Harrison on the O-line, we failed in this years draft.  Thornton MAYBE, but please just say no to Harrison.  I am thinking he must have compromising info or photos of the coaching staff somewhere to be keeping his job.

I agree that two rookie back up TE's make no sense (and Swoope is barely even a rookie in truth, he's a basketball player who has hung out on a football team for a season in reality with little to no live action meaningful action to show he can do anything).  I would be more for Doyle and a veteran backup and let Swoope beat them out.  But as of now we have no veterans to compete with them for the third slot that I am aware of?  If you toss Varga in as a 4th RB, then I might be able to accept 3 TE's a little better, but I still can't see Swoope being that guy.  I think 3 RB's with Varga on the PS makes more sense.  He's going to play Special teams at most don't you think?  Perhaps you let Swoope and Varga compete for the roster spot by proving which is more valuable to the team.  I know they are very different players, but a roster spot is only available at RB or TE and so pick the guy who offers the team the most and get a proven solid veteran TE to compete with Doyle as our #2 TE.

I don't see how you can judge the draft on what Harrison does and don't do. I agree he hasn't shown much of anything but labeling the draft failed if he makes the team is a little far fetched. We do need depth while the rookie learn to play.

It is very simple.  If Harrison is our interior depth and Kelly goes down (or if he somehow turns into a bust himself) that would leave us with Harrison as our backup?  No thanks.  If that happens, then we failed to address the needs of our O-line in the draft and thus, failed since we spent 4 of 8 picks there to make sure it was fixed.  You apparently have some love of Harrison as it seems an obsession with you to make sure he's a Colt this year or to sing his praises as worthy of being on this team.  I am simply saying if he IS still on the team, then the goal of fixing the line (of which he was the weakest link last year) obviously is a failure.  It's really pretty straight forward.

PS: Does Harrison have compromising photos of you too?

Why do you feel the need to insult me that way?

Actually it was to deflect the tension in the fact that you seem to stalk me on this topic and others previously so I thought a little light hearted comment might keep things on that path instead of devolving once again into you stalking me all over the board.  If you were offended, (I am guessing about the joke about the photos, something obviously silly and not possible, i.e. a joke, unsure where the "insult" was exactly), then I apologize.  But perhaps stop stalking me and we really won't have anything to worry about on either side right?

You realize with your changes we have 59/60 players on your projected 53 man roster.

There are 2 guys I think some are expecting a lot from and may be disappointed. Maggitt and Miller. Miller played college ball at Taylor that's a huge jump in competition he is making. A year on the PS may be his route.

Maggitt hasn't played in a football game in a while. The fact he went undrafted after a double digit sack season in the SEC makes me less optimistic then many. I could see him starting on the IR. Thompson could be the real steal. The mocks had him going all over the place from the end of day 2 to not at all and everywhere in between.

I think Herrara Is gone. I would keep an eye on Milton CB. He had 7 blocked kicks at Georgia Tech. I hope a CB emerges and pushes Butler off the roster.

No one is stalking you. Just because I made a comment to you you think it's stalking. I read all the threads and I can assure you I am not pointing you out over any other member. Dude, you have a serious problem.

I don't see Swoope making the roster over Griswold personally. I don't doubt Swoope has atheltic  ability. I just don't see how you go from never playing a down of football to being better than a guy who's been playing since pop warner.

The guys people like to point to Gates at least played football in HS Graham played a year in college Thomas played football and bball in college.

I think Varga offers a much more diverse skill set than Swoope.  Varga can help on ST's. He looked good on KR's last year. The concussion is a problem.

It should be a great camp. We have a lot of players fighting for a few roster spots. Hopefully they are settled by play and not injury. I could name a lot of players I'm anxious to see play who were not on the team last season many are on the back end or catching balls from Luck

    • Yeah... Richardson needs players who can separate and who can get open deep. IMO "give the inaccurate QB a contested catch receiver with large catch radius" is one of the tropes that hasn't proven to work well. Contested catches have about 50-55% success rate even with the best of contested catch receivers and with relatively accurate QBs... now if you think AR's accuracy is not good, drop that rate even more. The best way to give a relatively inaccurate QB better chance to complete passes is to give him a WR who separates and and who is open so the QB would have more of a margin for error to throw the ball a little behind or ahead or a little higher or lower than ideal. (we are not talking about uncatchable balls here... those will be uncatchable for anyone really). In that regard, one thing I would agree about is - we need WRs who have good hands and have good ball skills.   And this is ignoring that AR has indeed been pretty good with his accuracy on passes at intermediate and long range. His biggest problem coming into the league was the short stuff and he was already showing improvements in that deparment before he got injured.    And Worthy is the WR who created the most separation from anybody in this draft :
    • Richardson  accuracy  on deep balls is his strength.  Hence why you pair an elite deep threat in worthy.
    • No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.
    • In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.
