Grigson seemed pretty high on these guys in his press conference, and after doing some research there are a few I am pretty high on myself.

Gil Brandt had Josh Ferguson (RB) and Ron Thompson (DE) as his highest rated players at their positions.  Curt Maggit was ranked #4 LB, Darion Griswold the #5 TE, and Tevaun Smith the #7 WR.

All of these players excite me.

I think Ferguson is a very quick, explosive back and has major potential as a change-of-pace back.  He ran his 40 in 4.48 seconds, so he is pretty fast, he benched 21 reps, and has pretty impressive broad and high jumps.  He is known for having good hands as well, which is something which can only help in this offense.  He was projected as a 5-6 rounder, so to get him in FA may have been lucky for us.

Thompson I see moving to OLB or staying at DE in blitz packages (if he makes the team).  He had 7 sacks last year at Syracuse, which is pretty good.  It sounds like he is still a little bit raw, but that he has some athleticism and can be taught.  I'd expect him to be more of a PS guy to start, but it sounds like he has strong potential as an edge rusher.

Maggitt, as many have discussed, is a guy who, if healthy, looks to be a real player.  He had 11 sacks as a junior, and then missed the majority of last season after chipping a bone in his hip during week 2.  He only tested in the bench (22 reps) and did not run or jump at his pro-day.  He is known for having a high motor and sounds a bit like Morrison in that he is one of the 'most passionate players' in this years class.  I assume he passed his medical exams, or we would not have signed him.  I'm not quite sure how long it takes a chipped bone in the hip to heal, but it seems like this guy has major potential as a pass rusher if he's healthy.  Mathis is ready to teach, and this young man seems like he has potential to be a good student.

Darion Griswold is a big, athletic TE -- he is 6'5" 255 lbs. and was an all-state HS basketball player.  Sounds like he is still getting used to the game of football, but he performed well in his preparation and performance for the Shrine Game and it sounds like he has major potential.  I am hoping Swoope comes into his own as our 3rd TE this season and think it'd be great to have Swoope version 2 on our PS developing from an athlete to a football player.

Tevaun Smith has decent size at 6'0" 205 lbs and ran his 40 in 4.38.  He had a 38 inch vertical and a 10'2" broad jump.  He has good hands and is a very good athlete -- again he is raw, so he might need time to develop things like route-running, but his hands, size, and athleticism are all very solid.

There were not too many other UDFAs who struck me as very exciting -- Mekale McKay (WR, Cinci) has very good size at 6'4" 210 lbs and ran a 4.55 in the 40, 10'3" broad jump and 35 inch leap -- so he seems to be good in the size/athletic department but is known for having bad hands and being a poor route runner.  Danny Anthrop (WR, Purdue) seems like a poor-man's Griff Whalen to me.  Sterling Bailey (DT, Georgia) seems to have some upside, but he is too slow to play on the edge/rush the passer and seems to be too light (6'4" 285 lbs.) to be an effective run-plugger in the middle in the NFL (which is what he was known for at UGA).  I could not find much information or was very underwhelmed by reports I found on all other players.

Maggitt is a guy I have high hopes for. I really want him to succeed and I think he has a good shot at doing so. Hopefully Mathis and our coaching staff can help him become the best player he can be.

I agree -- his ability at a player doesn't concern me much -- it's more his health.  He missed a full year in college due to a torn ACL then he missed all but 2 games last year due to his hip.

It doesn't sound like a 'bone-chip' in the hip is that serious/career-threatening, though I don't know enough about it.  I would think that is better than a fully fractured or dislocated hip, but I don't know the extent of his injury nor much about the long-term influence on his ability to move and his physical health.

Tevaun Smith's college production was held back some because he played in a system that emphasizes the run and focuses passing to TE's.

Grigson likes his fast receivers so he might find a role as the #4 or #5 guy.

I'd really like to see the Colts pick up Drew Ott.  He was injured early his senior year (I think ACL) and prior to that he was looking and being projected to be the star on Iowa's DL.  Might be able to to be a pass rush specialist.

Ott originally injured his shoulder in our game against Iowa State, but he was able to play on that injury (and play pretty well) until he tore his ACL. I'd love to see us pick him up (part of that is Iowa homer-ism, but I think he'd be a really good signing for us, too), and I think he'd project really well as Walden's backup. He's not the most physically gifted, so I don't see him being a great pass rusher in the NFL, but he's very good against the run, and I think he could be that edge setter for our defense.

UDFA's have been an important part of the Colts for about as long as I can remember -- some guys not on this team, but who've helped us in the past that never were drafted include:

Gary Brackett, Marcus Pollard, Dominic Rhodes, Jeff Saturday, are just a few names that come off the top of my head that have played significant roles helping the Colts in not-too-distant past.

Another guy, who I'm starting to get a little excited about in Daniel Davie, CB, Nebraska -- he wasn't bad 2 years ago, but was hurt most of last year, he has good size for a CB (6'1" 185) and is fast (sub 4.4 forty).

Blueshoe, where are you getting the roster from?  I see you have Drew Ott listed.  I saw some reports yesterday that he signed with colts but later reports are saying he hasn't signed.

Regarding the other udfas I like the same players mentioned above.

Gil Brandt had OT Isiah Cage, Wisconsin-Eau Claire on his top 15 small college sleeper list.

It's a spreadsheet I keep. I update it with information that I read.

Just read this on Ferguson from fantasy pros

"Ferguson (undrafted) is arguably the best receiving running back in the 2016 NFL Draft. In his sophomore and junior seasons for Illinois, Ferguson caught 50 passes each year – an incredible amount of catches for a running back (especially on a non-pass-happy offense). He was on pace for 53 catches in 2015, but missed his final few games with a shoulder injury. By comparison, notorious ‘great hands’ running back Kenneth Dixon’s top season in college for catches was 33. Kenyan Drake’s best – 29 receptions. David Johnson’s season high for receptions at Northern Iowa – 38 grabs. When I scouted Ferguson for the NFL Draft, I marveled at how adept he is at moving into position for swings and screen passes. He’s NFL-ready for the short passing game. He’s a 4.48 runner, and benched 21 reps at the NFL Combine, not bad for a 198-pound running back. All Ferguson has in front of him on the depth chart for a pass-game specialist’s role is Robert Turbin, Jordan Todman, and Trey Williams. In the era of the RB as a huge pass-game weapon, Ferguson may be a PPR shock out of nowhere in 2016 getting to work with Andrew Luck"

Davie is no good.  He might have good workout numbers but was a liability in coverage.  Opposing offenses attacked him specifically and they were very successful. Can't remember the specific game but it got so bad the coaching staff yanked him out of the game because it was embarrassing.

Not sure if people remember (or if it has even been brought up in other posts) but Tevaun Smith is the one that broke Odell Beckham's read for one handed catches in a minute. (Note: no offensive music; also, not all throws are perfect)

I am not saying that it equates him to being an Odell on the field but just thought I'd throw that little tidbit out there.

Was that game in 2015?

From what I read about him he looked pretty good in 2014, but was hampered by injuries all of 2015 and his play regressed quite a bit....

Sounds like Ron Thompson has some play-making ability, according to Rotoworld:

"Thompson (6'3/253) went pro after his redshirt junior campaign, finishing his career with 21 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and six forced fumbles as a two-plus-year starter. He earned third-team All-ACC as a senior. Thompson's pre-draft workouts were atrocious, running 4.92 with an 8-foot-10 broad jump. Thompson's versatility is a plus — he can play defensive end, tackle, and linebacker — but his shortage of speed and athleticism will likely be his NFL undoing."

2014, I don't recall hearing his name called in 2015.  In 2014 he started the season good until a particular game that I don't specifically remember and he gave up like 3 tds in 4 series.  From the rest of the season OC's went at him and he looked bad.
