I think it's more like Irsay made it clear that they need to upgrade the offensive line during their end of season meetings.

Iowa fan here. If we hadn't already drafted Kelly, I'd say Blythe would be a good candidate to start for us at C. With Kelly though, I think he'll be our backup C. Holmes and Harrison better be worried, because with this pick I don't more than one of  them makes the final 53.

Kelly has some competition now. Honestly I think Blythe could play before our earlier picks because I think he is more advanced (stronger) but we literally could field a whole new OL. Rookie camp will be exciting and competitive.

He's basically Shipley. But believe it or no, Shipley is 30 years old and has no room to improve.

This week was grigsons official "get off my back about the OL" week. Dang he sent a heck of a signal to our guys that they ain't cuttin it and philbin and OL coaches got no excuses to not fix the run game.

I think irsay made it clear to grigs that he wanted an overhaul of the oline and that the only olineman safe were AC Mewhort Reitz and Good. thats 5 maybe 6 spots to fill

True .. but this guy could be even worse ... end of the 7th so not that big of deal ... just an observation we seemed to never really want Shipley than go draft his clone.

I agree with all of that. Just saying, maybe they wouldn't have been so noncommittal on Shipley if he wasn't topped out and almost 30 years old. Getting a younger version of him with some upside makes sense. And like you said, end of the day, it's a late 7th rounder. If he's a PS guy at best, oh well.

I for one don't scratch my head much on 7th round picks. You can take chances here and as said before it will be good to jettison Harrison and Holmes

The Colts did better with the 7th rounder from Green Bay that I called a throw-in than they did with the much more valuable 4th rounder from Green Bay.

The right side my still be Good and Reitz to start the season but Clark will make a major push to start and Blythe could be a solid backup at Center
