Clock mistake in SD last night

The NFL admits that 18 seconds were erroneously run off the clock prior to the Steelers game winning drive last night. Thank god this didn't happen in Gillette...it would be a national news story!!

Seriously - the league really dodged a bullet here, had the Steelers run out of time and lost.

This also happened I'm fairly sure in the Texans/Colts game... twice, well in the reverse with clock stopping when it shouldn't. It's certainly come up in a GDay topic recently.

Amazing how this can even happen, surely they have a guy who's only job is to literally watch the clock.

Mike Tomlin has not impressed me much this year. I thought the Steeler's 2 minute offense in both halves vs the Pats was bad to the point of embarrassing. Then he has the questionable 4th down calls that led to them blowing the Ravens game...now he doesn't notice that they stole 18 seconds from him on the last drive of the game with his team trailing? I realize that Bill Belichick worship can get over the top, but it's truly unfathomable to me that he wouldn't have immediately noticed this error.

Some HCs are notoriously bad with the clock/time situational football.

The rest of the AFC are lucky Big Ben is out. I really think they would have lit it up this year.

Given the overall weakness of the AFC this year, they definitely would have been in the mix. They're by no means out of it yet though.

In the Colts game it was just the TV time that was incorrect.  I noticed that too, they kept running the clock when after the player ran out of bounds and the ref signaled for the clock to stop.  But then by the time they got up to the line it had been corrected.

I believe the NFL has actually admitted that it was the game clock that was run off erroneously. The Steelers should have had 18 more seconds on the clock when they started their final drive.

I was talking about the Colts game.  That is why I responded to SteelCityColt who was talking about a similar thing happening in the Colts game and why I started my sentence with, "In the Colts game..."

I figured that would alleviate any confusion but I must admit, I did not consider the Pats fan factor (Average Colts fan IQ plus Tom Brady's age all of that divided by 2)

Several problems with your comment here. 1. IT IS a national news story. It's all over. Just as an example, national sports talk radio spent hours on this just yesterday. 2. The person who erred has been suspended, which is more than can be said for incidents involving "Gillette."

    • I cant disagree with anything you wrote.     I just think a great D can help a growing offense.   I also think its easier to add talent on the offensive side of the ball.   The D needs more scheme fit that the offense does.   Offense can adapt/change to new talent easier than a D can.   AlsoI like D better than O
    • Of,course it is just speculation. This forum is all speculation and opinions , and to your point nothing is ever leaked from the organization they don’t want public including the content of their pre-draft videos. It is all just spitballing in the offseason by the media and the fans.
    • If there was any flaw with the Hooker pick, it was simply his injury history. Dude was a big time playmaker, and he showed that whenever he was healthy. Sadly, that wasn't often enough, and it undermined his career potential.   There's also a common perception that FS isn't a first round position. I fully believe in positional value, but I don't agree at FS. I think it's close to a premium position when you have a playmaker. Especially when you want to play a bunch of Cover 3.
    • I don’t disagree. But if AR is going to make enough difference to win the close games, wouldn’t we want to put every tool in his bag to be the true difference for this team? What players on defense are going to be a bigger difference maker for this team over a high level pass catcher/playmaker, if AR is that guy? That argument isn’t just, well AR is better, therefore he will get us to the playoffs. If that is true, why would it not be better to load him up with playmakers that can make a difference now and over the next several years than to just keep what we have and try and find a few defensive players? We’ll address the defense at some point in the draft… I think we’ll still get a vet in the secondary room post draft. I think the corners will be better next year. Defensive line could very well also. Will our pass catchers be better? Just because AR is out there? I don’t necessarily see it that way. I think the offense will be, but I see no reason to not load him up.
    • And he was playing very well before getting injured
