Arthur Jones missed the following games last season:

week 3-Jax

Week 4-Titans

Week 5-Ravens

Week 6-Houston

Week 7-Bengals

Week 9-Giants

Week 11-Patriots

Allowed 105 yards rushing vs Jax

Allowed 85 yards rushing vs Titans

90 yards allowed vs Baltimore

136 yards allowed vs Texans

32 yards allowed vs Bengals (But only 12 attempts.....still 32 yards)

89 yards allowed vs Giants

246 yards allowed vs Patriots

111.8 yards allowed a game in those 7 games

In the 9 games Jones played in: Denver, Philly, Pitt, Jax, Washington, Browns, Texans, Dallas, Titans

Denver-102 yards allowed

Eagles-127 yards allowed (Though 22 were by Foles)

Pitt-117 yards allowed (He did not start in this game but played 36 snaps) http://www.stampedeblue.com/2014/10/27/7077859/colts-week-eight-snap-counts-vs-steelers

Jax-80 yards allowed

Redskins-84 allowed (12 of those came off McCoy though)

Browns-115 yards....3 of those off Hoyer

Texans-137 yards......But 16 by Fitzpatrick

Cowboys-127 yards rushing-But 28 by Romo

Titans-142 yards rushing (19 by Whitehurst)

103.4 yards rushing allowed....Does the better numbers attribute to Jones being in those games? No I don't think so in this case, To get an idea of how affective Jones was for the team you would have to grade the player based on what he was doing

Injuries happen in the NFL. Not Jones' fault nor Grigson's , The best of it is he comes back healthy for game 5 or 6.The worst ofit is he doesn't play at all or has a year similar to last year when the injury ruined most of his season. It's not like the farm is invested here. He only has around 3.3 mill that guaranteed on his contract after this year.

So I guess I'm saying we need to live with it.

Truth is he's done no more than what we would expect from any of our DTs since he's been here. If that.

He may have been great at one time, but not here. Injuries happen, I hope he recovers, but let's face it, we're missing nothing if he's out.

A great complimentary player

So what you're saying is that he's not the force people think he is

Looking at how he got hurt, my initial reaction is that this injury isn't as bad as last year's. That's hardly a scientific conclusion, though. Hope he gets back soon.

Wthr is leading this morning with "per sources" that it is a high ankle sprain, similar to last year and that he may be out for 6 weeks or more.

Yes, dainty ankles. Same-ish injury to different ankle two years running. Every lineman gets rolled up on now and then.

Again, I would like to see your ankle hold up on that type of play. Did you even look to see what happened?

Anderson flashed on some plays but got pushed around on some others. He looked better when playing with Langford and Parry. I hope Jones isnt out too long, I bet its at least a few weeks. Hughes did next to nothing but Kerr flashed a little bit. Im surprised we didn't see any of Quarles, he looked good against the Eagles. If Jones is out for any extended period of time. I'd think we'd look for another veteran somewhere.

He will be it's a high ankle sprain,

If the reports are true and he's out a few weeks, I think we'll get some good reps from Anderson, Kerr, and Hughes. We aren't looking outside of the organization for help. We don't need to, nor should we.

It's no ones fault. Not Art, Grigson, the Trainers, or his "dainty ankles"

How my ankles would hold up is irrelevant. I'm not an elite athlete paid ~8(?) million dollars a year to make an impact.

If every lineman got a high ankle sprain or worse every time they were rolled up on then half the lineman in the NFL would be out with ankle injuries.

What he is paid is irrelevant and you don't have to be an elite athlete.

So I take it you did not actually look at the play where Jones was injured? Had you seen it you might think better of the dainty ankles comment.

Then you clearly know nothing about ankles, dainty or not.

Different ankle, same injury. Two years running. I do know that.

For the third time, guys get rolled up on all the time (there's a reason for the 9 lbs of tape all lineman wear on there ankles). If Art is going to be out 6+ weeks and then come back in poor form every time he's rolled up on, he's a waste of space.

Just to add a bit of perspective that I think your post seems to be lacking (not that you yourself lack perspective, just I think your missing something important).  111.8 rush yards would put us at #16 in the league.  Which is about right, we were pretty average.  103.4 yards would make us top 10.  So I don't think the stats bear out the conclusion you are trying to make.  Because in light of your stats, that one man takes us from an average run defense to a top 10 run defense.

that's not exactly how it works. To get a true idea on how good he has been for the Colts he would have to be graded on what his individual assignment is (which really most often you can figure out by what he is doing). I mean we can say the run defense was better when he was playing and the numbers would validate that conclusion...But that's not how players are graded

Yeah I see that, but his injury last season really lingered all year. And he re-injured it when he came back against the Steelers. Every high ankle sprain isn't the same. I would think having your leg rolled up on by a 300 pound man is more traumatic and leads to greater injury than stepping on someone else's foot. Not in every case, and it all depends on what the doctors say and how his body responds.

But player grades and impact on a particular play are two different sets of analysis.  He could do his job on every single play and his doing so doesn't necessarily correlate to the success of the rest of the team on that play.  This, coincidentally, is why I agree with you that the analysis isn't as simple as just seeing how many yards we gave up with and then without him.  To me, his impact is just something you see with your eyes, devoid of what his assignment grades are and the stats with and without him - all of these things add color, sure.  But the measure of how much better he makes our defense is just really impossible to say objectively.  It's kind of like that WAR stat in baseball or ESPN's QBR, you know it when you see it and you don't need numbers or grades to tell you.  The fault with it is that it's inherently subjective, but not everything in sports can be reduced to objective grading systems and statistical measurements.

Yep, time to cut him.

That's what we hoped for, at the very least.  Can you honestly say he's ever been that while here?

Again, I realize that players get hurt, that's the NFL.  All I'm saying is that he won't really be missed since he was never a force while we had him in the first place.

Agree. You can't miss what you've never had. Hopefully he can return sooner rather than later
