Good Bye Tipton Hello Varga?

how has he? (I ask because I cant watch the games, not to argue). I see he had 6car 16yards...not exactly impressive but I could be missing something.

Our o-line didn't block well vrs the run.  Alot of those carries were hit at or behind the line.

Robinson had the worst of it,..seeing 2-3 guys meeting him behind the line multiple times.  I was amazed he got a 2 yard gain on what i thought was a sure 2 yard loss.

It's a question of roster spots.  We all know Gore is making the roster.  I think we can assume Boom is making it.  If they only keep three backs that leaves one spot for Ballard, Robinson, and Varga.  Personally I think they go with Robinson and try to stash Varga on the practice squad.  I liked Vick his rookie year he just can't stay healthy.

Varga is nothing special, but it doesn't take much to be much better than Tipton who would be a backup RB if the NFL had a AAA league...

Gore, Robinson, Ballard, Varga in that order.

Wheres Boom? He's clearly the 2nd right now given J-Robs recent injury.

Oh yeah, Herron...meh, I'm not that wild about him either. I guess he's ahead of Varga...possibly Ballard...I'd rather just give the reps to Robinson pending injury...none of the others have close to as much upside as Robinson...they're situational backs at best...

Boom is possibly ahead of Ballard?? At this point I doubt Vick makes the final 53.

I think you're way overrating Robinson. He didn't exactly tear it up against 1st team competition.

Doesn't really matter, it's going to be Gore for two series, Boom for one, repeat, and the third RB will get carries in the fourth Q if we're winning.

I have been begging for Varga to get time. I hope he makes it to game 4. I would like to see more carries some time on special teams. I'm not sure what has taken so long.

Well, I'm sure Colts management listens to its fanbase, and it only makes sense for one of those sources to be from their very own forum, so maybe a Colts rep will drop a hint Pagano's way. Of course, I hope the scouting department noticed Varga also. His performance doesn't jump out on paper, but it was great nonetheless.

Robinson has shown me more than any other RB so far. I'm not sure what the stats say (and generally don't care that much, with all due respect to them), but Robinson - younger and with no pro experience - looks better than the pre-existing backs.

Herron is in Ballard territory for me. If he makes the team as a RB that almost never plays, great. If he doesn't make the team and definitely never plays, that's fine too...I'm not losing any sleep over either of them...

The development arc for Robinson is steeper and he's at the lower end of it. I'm not saying he's our future starter or anything grandiose like that, but I'd rather give the reps and develop a young RB with actual potential instead of handing the ball off to guys that are marginally better now (at best) and certainly not better at all when factoring in age/experience/development arc progress...

Just my opinion on it, certainly not gospel...I'm sure the people in charge will at least cut Tipton, and after that, I'm pretty much content...

Good sir, I think you're really, really undervaluing Herron, who not only had a solid game tonight, but was arguably one of the major reasons the Colts were able beat both Cincy and Denver last year (behind an o-line cobbled together with paper mache).

Boom ran well, and caught several critical passes out of the backfield in the first two playoff games last year.  If you re-watch the All-22 film on his performances in those games, I think you'll be pretty pleasantly surprised by his efforts.

It's only in the AFCCG that Boom struggled (and in that game, the whole team struggled).

Just my 2 cents. :D

Adrian Peterson wouldn't have done any better when most of the time 2-3 linemen are in the backfield waiting on you.

It appears the run blocking was pretty bad.  I didn't get to see the full game, just some of the clips from NFL network when they did the live look in.  I still think the run blocking will turn out okay overall.  Some teams like the Rams you're just not going to be able to run the football against.  Just have to find another way to win those type of games.  Everything is situational, in some games you'll be able to do one thing that you couldn't do in another game.  We'll see I guess....

Actually it wasn't that bad in the first quarter really. Wasn't till Harrison came in where things went to crap

Eh we played one of the best D Lines in the NFL this week and was also game planned against. The run game is better then what it showed tonight but I think come the regular season and when the team is game planned against every week we will still have problems running the ball. The addition of Herremans and Gore wont magically change that. The O Line has to get better at fundamentals and driving D Linemen off the ball among other things

Very true, the Rams may have the best D line in the NFL. Top 3, no doubt. Still, Boom had a few decent runs.

I think our run game will be better than last year, with the addition of Gore and how much the D has to play the pass. But it will still struggle in those 3rd and 1 situations.

I was glad to see how Luck took those quick sideline throws when they had the box full and man or loose coverage on the WRs. Those 5 yard dump offs are nearly unstoppable.

I like Varga for the 4th RB if they keep 4.
Gore, Herron, Robinson, Varga. The kid is a football player. He'll be tough to cut, and if they do, it will be fingers crossed that he makes it to the practice squad without being claimed. Every team needs players like this; smart, balls out special teams demons who can step in effectively and play their position well when called upon. Varga can play FB or RB. He could be a great goal line runner. He could return Kickoffs or punts. Sign him.

Well said.  Also, RBs get dinged and miss a game or two so I'm hoping they keep 4.

He might make it onto the PS w/o getting claimed.  He would be depth on every other team too and I don't think he has shown enough to make another team churn the bottom of the roster just for him at this point.
