IF Ballard is healthy, and shows he can run, stop, cut, and power through tackles still, then he'll be kept.  Robinson won't be cut either.  Colts will keep 4 RB's if Ballard is healthy.

The big thing is to think who can pass block the best out of the remaining 3.  I think he'll end up the #2 back.  Pretty sure Robinson or Ballard do it better than Herron.  Herron is faster, and is good on the open field as an outlet receiver, but his ball protection, and pass protection leaves me wanting more.

^ So much this...

It just all hinges on Ballard being healthy and ready.

I just hope Pagano and Pep try to even out the workload and not

run one guy in the ground and onto IR. I don't want another

scenario such as Bradshaw last season, we need our starters

healthy for the playoffs.

not all running backs are equal in terms of injury. Bradshaw has had a history of struggling to stay healthy. Gore has been a workhorse his whole career who stays healthy. With that said yes I am sure the ideal situation is to have a stable of running backs who can all play.

I still don't want to run the old guy to death, especially against lesser opponents. Hopefully the

younger guys can take at least 50% of the workload off of him.

gore is a throwback to Edge, he doesn't like to come out, Given his track record you are worrying about something that has been a none issue for the bulk of his career in terms of injuries, as for wearing him down no back gets 100% of the carries in the NFL anymore. With that said assuming he's producing he's going to get the bulk of them that's why the Colts spent what they did to sign him. Since he's done it most of his career I don't think that's going to be a problem unless he hits the running back wall that running backs hit with age but if that happens it's going to happen due to age and number of carries won't help that because normally it means backs have lost a step.

I still think he'll only get 60% of the snaps.with 30% going to a back-up like Ballard or Robinson, and 10% to Herron as a change of pace back or situational.  Bell cow his whole life or not, you still want him as fresh as possible in the 4th quarter without letting up on the ground game the first 3 quarters to do so.

I agree totally.... Herron needs to prove he can hang onto the ball.... his fumbles vs carries was bad.... I think Ballard will surprise us and Gore will have a very good year. Finally a back log at RB and WR, good problem to have!

The decision has allready been made so speculation is irrelevent. Go see a practice and you will get the picture. Unless an injury happens it will be Gore, Herron, Ballard and Robinson. They may as well cut the rest now as they will not get any opportunity. Just wasting their time here when they might have a more honest look elesewhere. I see these guys just standing around and I just shake my head at how stupid the whole process is. Why bring guys in to stand around and do nothing? At least have a look at them! Gives a whole new meaning to the term "camp bodies".

We haven't even put pads on. Then we have 4 preseason games to play. Gore will see limited action.

Achilles injuries are trouble for RB's very difficult to return to form often led to other injuries Ballard 2 days in had a hamstring problem.

Varga will see the ball. He will see time on special teams. He needs to shine on both.

I personally think Gore is the only lock. Boom needs to show he can hold on to the ball. Ballards health is a huge question mark. JR will probably get his look first. We drafted him but Varga will get his chance.

Can you think of a team with a more wide open backfield? We have Gore 2 late rounders and UDFA's. He is in a good spot.

AK ...If you have a chance go out and see a practice. The UDFA's do not get any reps. There is no competition happening for the positional spots on the roster. The press releases are just nonsense. The incumbents and the drafted guys get all the reps. Can't compete if you get no reps. How the hell can the team get better like this? I understand that many of the first team positions are locked because of financial guarantees and who ever made those decisions has their head on the line for it but the rest should be a wide open equal opportunity competition. That is how you end up with the best team! Call me old school but I am tired of these guaranteed primadonnas. Guarantee a Super Bowl and I might eat my words.

You will like this. He will get carries in the preseason if he doesn't there's a problem for sure

Quite honestly, I'm going to hold out judgement for spots 2-4 until I see some action in the preseason. Each of the guys competing has something to prove:

(Ballard: Injuries)

(Herron: Ball Control)

(Robinson: Rookie)

I don't think Tipton is going to make this team barring injury to any of the above or Gore.

That's just media spin to keep fans interested and sell a few ads. Maybe Varga and Hodges get a few reps, maybe not, but what about the rest. Surely there must be a few there that can help the team. I just hate seeing these guys standing around doing nothing. Even if they get plugged in to a game what can you expect if they have had no practice?

They show a video of most of his touches at the Senior Bowl along with commentary on his chances to make the league. Mayock I think it was really liked the kid. Everyone did singing Yale fight song I know you saw it all live but still kind of cool to see again. I save you from the article.

I know you like Varga and I do too but lets be honest here. He does not stand a hope in hell of making the team with Charlie Williams being his positional coach. One, Charlie got the RB job as demotion from the WR job as he royally f***ed up that one. The only reason he is there is because of his buddy Pep.Two, he knows zero about coaching RB's and by the looks of it Josh Robinson is his pet project. Did you see JR, I mean he is fat, put on at least 10-15 pounds since the OTA's and barely passed the conditioning without having a heart attack. He is in my opinion the worst back on the roster right now. Three, I hate to say it,but ******* is a racist. Varga and Toure are so low on all the depth charts right now that you will need a shovel to dig them out. They get like zero reps of anything and when they do get in its cold after standing around for an hour. Try going full speed when cold ... can you say injury waiting to happen. So as optimistic as you may be I don't see you being right on this one, Yale Fight song or not! I will keep my eye on things and let you know if anything changes but don't get your hopes up.

Dang talk about busting my bubble. Varga can contribute on ST's and when preseason games start I think he will get carries.

Maybe I am a fool but I think the only RB we are married to is Gore. The rest are UDFA's and a 6th rounder.

Ballard was a 5th and everyone wants to see him make it back including me. History has shown achilles kills RB!s notorious for other injuries. I don't think its a coincident the hammy is already a problem. Was it day 2?

I think Varga will find a way to at least the PS. He has the skills to contribute more on ST's than any RB on the roster. He can play FB if needed. I'm going to stop know I don't need to sell you.

Remember that tackle Terrell Davis made in his first preseason game for Denver? That was his start. He was a 6th rounder at the bottom of the depth chart. Before I get attacked I'm not comparing TD to Varga. I just think he can make an impact on special teams. He does what it takes.

If he doesn't get any run in the Philly game I will be forced to accept your theory. He could have went anywhere. He had to do his homework why sign with us if he wasn't going to get a shot?
