Round 1 Mock Draft 3.0

Recommended Posts

Here is Round 1.  Rounds 2-3 coming later.

Pick 1:  Buccaneers: Jameis WinstonQuarterbackFlorida State

The Bucs will draft Winston despite the growing media complaint: "He's not ready for the NFL." Winston displays the best throwing abilities and is the choice for the Bucs with the first pick, who are in need of a franchise-caliber QB. Winston has complete confidence in his position as QB, and the Bucs need someone with confidence, and will be an improvement over McCown and Glennon.

Pick 2:  Titans: Marcus MariotaQuarterbackOregon

A trade might possibly happen here, but the Titans need to grab a QB when they have the chance, since the draft is not exactly very deep in QB prospects. Mariota was a combine top performer in the 40 yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, cone drill, and 20 yard shuttle for QBs. He will need to learn how to read the defense better and hold onto the ball more, 27 fumbles in his career. He is a dual threat QB similar to Kaepernick, but possesses but the athleticism and the consistency.

Pick 3 Jaguars: Leonard WilliamsDefensive EndUSC

The Jaguars can't pass up one of the best players, if not the very best prospect, in the draft here. He has fantastic athleticism and power. Offensive lineman are going to have trouble holding him back. He is going to get better and better with experience and utilizing all of his traits that makes him the best defensive player in the draft.

Pick 4: Raiders: Kevin WhiteWide ReceiverWest Virginia

While some people would say Amari Cooper goes here, but I think Kevin White right now has the upper hand. Good size for a WR at 6'3" 215 lb. He has amazing speed, coming in with a 4.35 40 time. Also a very strong WR, with 23 bench press reps. He is getting better and better with route running and hauling in badly thrown balls that are hard to catch. White's confidence has grown and would be a solid pick at #4.

With the loss of Orakpo, the Redskins need a productive OLB. Fowler is built very well and has great athleticism. A versatile player who can rush from the 2 or 3 point stance. Block-shedding moves improved and is very good at changing his direction while in pursuit of the ball carrier. His pass rushing will get better with more training and can become a dominant edge rusher.

With Mariota off the board, the Jets will most likely wait till the next rounds until they consider grabbing a QB. The Jets already have a defense stocked with talent, and adding Beasley will make them even more dangerous. The Jets possess one of the best D-Lines in the NFL, and Beasley would excel greatly in their defense coming off the edge with his explosiveness and great edge rushing speed.

Their defense definitely needs to be improved with a NT or another edge rusher, but it would be very hard to pass on a player like Amari Cooper. Outstanding athletic ability and is a skilled route runner and has great hands. He is able to open himself and has big play-making ability has a reliable deep threat.

This is probably high for Gregory, with the off-the-field concerns, but the Falcons need an edge rusher. Gregory has a long frame and has toughness that complements his burst towards the ball carrier. Pass rushing will develop and get better with coaching, and new head coach Dan Quinn can help Gregory develop into a powerful edge rusher for the Falcons.

The Giants need another lineman to help get the run game moving this year. Scherff is very powerful and has strong legs and hips that helps him move around and push defenders out of the way. Scherff will adapt to the scheme of the Giants and will be solid in run blocking with his efficient movement on the line.

The Rams lack solid depth on the O-line and need another reliable lineman. Has quick feet and is efficient at both run and pass blocking. Peat has all of the physical traits and has the ability to anchor the offensive line. Peat will greatly improve the O-line and help keep Foles comfortable in the pocket.

Waynes is the best CB in the draft this year, and the Vikings could use a CB with his skill set. Very fast and can keep up with the fastest WRs, with his 4.31 40 time speed. Waynes is a bump-and-run CB, excels in deep, man coverage. His physical traits and amazing athleticism and great coverage ability makes him a great selection at 11.

Browns were able to get WRs in free agency with Hartline and Bowe, but they should definitely considering selecting one in the draft as a secure weapon for Manziel/McCown, especially since Gordon is as good as done in the league with his substance abuse troubles. Has sure hands and drops occur on rare occasions, only credited with 3 drops since 2012. Has good size and would be a true #1

Pick 13: Saints: Shane RayOutside LinebackerMissouri

Saints are in great need of an OLB, and Ray seems like their best option. Dupree could be another pass rusher, but I feel like Ray has more upside with his pass rush. Ray pursues the QB very well and has the strength & athleticism to adapt to different defensive schemes. Ray could develop into a nice OLB for the Saints with the right coaches and him playing to his full potential.

Dolphins could use another WR, but could select one in the 2nd with a deep WR class. Collins can come him and help in the run game. He is able to play both guard and tackle, but would be better suited as a guard for the Dolphins and can come in improve their guard spot immediately with his physical presence.

Pick 15:  49ers: Arik ArmsteadDefensive TackleOregon

The 49ers defense needs help and more components to their LB corps and D-line. With Justin Smith closing in on retirement, 49ers need a dominant force on the line. Armstead comes in at 6'7", and has great run-stuffing ability. Armstead would provide an anchor for their defense and be productive on their line.

Pick 16: Texans: Breshad PerrimanWide ReceiverCentral Florida

He has a great combination of size and blazing speed. Drops are a major concern though. If he doesn't work on catching better, he has a chance of becoming DHB. His acceleration, length, and explosive traits will bait teams into selecting him, but teams must beware the drop issue.

The Chargers have a definite need at RB, and they couldn't pass up the best RB in the draft. If he had not been injured, Gurley would be a Top 10 pick. He combines speed and power in his dominant running style. If the ACL heals properly and he gets back to routine as a dominant runner, he can easily develop into a Top 5 RB in the league.

Chiefs need a CB, with the main corners on the roster are Sean Smith, Marcus Cooper, and Jamell Flemming. Peters is a talented CB with great ball skills that teams love. Nice size at 6'0". Character issues are a concern, but if they check out okay, Peters is a good selection for a team in need of a CB.

Pick 19:  Browns: Danny SheltonDefensive TackleWashington

A very powerful man in the middle, who excels at both the running game and pash rushing. He is a dominant run defender, which is exactly what the Browns needs, where they ranked at the bottom in run defense in 2014. Shelton may not be on the board at 19, but if he is, the Browns will not hesitate to get him.

Pick 20:  Eagles: Landon CollinsSafetyAlabama

Eagles needs a SS to play alongside Malcolm Jenkins. Collins is a great tackler and is best as a box safety. He plays very well coming towards the line of scrimmage. He is not as proficient in pass coverage, but his aggressiveness and pursuit to the ball carrier is hard to pass up at 20, especially when you need a safety.

Pick 21: Bengals: Alvin "Bud" DupreeOutside LinebackerKentucky

An amazing athletic prospect. Has a 42 inch vertical, 138 in. broad jump, and 4.46 40 time. He has explosiveness and the physicality to be a dominant edge setter. When matched with the right defensive coordinator, he can develop his full potential and become a good player for the Bengals.

Pick 22: Steelers: Kevin JohnsonCornerbackWake Forest

Cornerback is the biggest need for the Steelers. Johnson doesn't possess the best size for a CB, but makes up for it with his athleticism. Has great ball skills and would make a good addition to the depleted secondary of the Steelers.

Pick 23: Lions: Malcom BrownDefensive TackleTexas

With the loss of Suh and Fairley , the Lions need a yound force at DT. They acquired Ngata, but Ngata is getting up their in years. He is able to play different positions along the D-line and shows the instincts and playing ability of an NFL starter.

Pick 24:  Cardinals: Eli HaroldOutside LinebackerVirginia

Harold isn't too well known, but has talent to play OLB. He is ab explosive edge rusher and has strength when attacking offensive players. His burst and pursuit on the team is something all coaches love.

Pick 25Panthers: D.J. HumphriesOffensive TackleFlorida

Solid offensive tackle who transitions well into the second level. Secures blocks and would be a nice addition to the Panthers' O-line, and help keep Newton clean in the pocket.

Pick 26: Ravens: Phillip DorsettWide ReceiverMiami

Smith Sr. isn't getting any younger, and with the losses of Jacoby Jones and Torrey Smith the Ravens need another WR to complement Steve Smith Sr. Has incredible 4.3 speed with great acceleration and burst down field. Is versatile and can lineup in a number of spots on the field. Flacco would love to have a WR like Dorsett.

Pick 27:  Cowboys: Melvin GordonRunning BackWisconsin

With Murray gone, and McFadden not being productive for a couple of years, they need a feature back in that offense. With their amazing O-line, Gordon will have no trouble exceeding 1,000 yards with that type of run-blocking.

Pick 28:  Broncos: Ereck FlowersOffensive TackleMiami

Big offensive tackle with an athletic frame. He plays better as a guard, and excels at run-blocking, which is something the Broncos can incorporate more in their offense with C.J. Anderson and take some of the pressure of an aging Peyton Manning.

Pick 29: Colts: Eddie GoldmanDefensive TackleFlorida State

Colts need a productive man in the middle. Does a very good job with block-shedding at has good pursuit to the ball carrier. He is suited for the 3-4 defense and can make plays, rather than just eating up space. Pass rush isn't exactly spectacular, but can develop over time. Stopping the run is priority #1.  If Goldman isn't there at 29 then the Colts should take a good look at Kendricks.

Pick 30 Packers: Eric Kendricks, Inside Linebacker, UCLA

Barrington is the main ILB on the roster for the Packers, so another one needs to be taken in the draft.  Kendricks is probably the best ILB in the draft and the Packers would not want to pass on him at 30.  He plays with desire and motivation just like his brother Mychal.  He excels at both the pass and run, and can become a productive linebacker for years to come.

Pick 31: Saints: Dorial Green-BeckhamWide ReceiverOklahoma

Colston is starting to get older, Graham and Stills have been traded away, and Cooks only has a year of experience under his belt. Green-Beckham has a fantastic blend of great height and blazing speed. If he can work on improving his work ethic and be a good team player and teammate, he would become an excellent addition for the Saints.

Pick 32: Patriots: Jalen CollinsCornerbackLSU

Collins has great size and speed. Has tremendous talent and potential. Still a raw player with only 10 career starts, but can develop into a great CB with his playing traits and great size for a CB.
