Best trade in colts history?

That proves how good of a trade it was if we have discussed it for so long. Truly, one that will live in infamy.

Really? How do you figure that? We traded a later 1st round pick for a player who was drafted 3rd overall. The Browns paid his bonus and the Colts got him pretty cheap. When the trade was made more than 90% of Colts fans thought it was a good trade. It didn't work out, it happens. This trade was not even close to a couple of other trades the Colts have made. You just make it a big deal because that is the one that is fresh in your mind. Look at the history of the bad trades the Colts have made and you will see this one is not close to the top few.

Starting Painter when Manning was injured and not picking up a better QB in the process.

I would trade that horrible and painful season anytime for Luck!!!

I think we tried to get one, but obviously an old man off the couch wasn't taking us anywhere.

The Colts didn't make very many trades in the Polian era, that I can recall, and none of them were blockbusters. Grigson has been much more aggressive in making trades, with some really good ones and some really bad ones.

Best:

2nd Rd Pick for CB Vontae Davis

Two 4th Rd Picks for WR TY Hilton

Worst:

1st Rd PIck for RB Trent Richardson

DE Jerry Hughes for ILB Kelvin Sheppard

I still don't say Hughes trade was a bad one. He didn't do anything when he was in Indy. I feel his success is coming from the defense that the bills have. Plus he didn't like Indy

"He didn't do anything when he was in Indy"

I think you missed his last season as a 3-4 rush linebacker in Indy in which he got limited snaps and still put up 4 sacks while only starting 6 games

"I feel his success is coming from the defense that the bills have. Plus he didn't like Indy"

I never understand when someone says something like this, you would figure if his success is because of the people around him then a lot more players who are less talented then Hughes would perform a lot better then they do considering the talent around them...Is Justin Houston producing as big as he has because of the talent around him? How about Robert Quinn? Ryan Kerrigan?

"Plus he didn't like Indy"

It wasn't Indy he didn't like, He felt cheated out of getting a shot to prove himself on the field after Polian went and drafted him in the first round knowing he had two Pro Bowl caliber pass rushers starting at the time......It was a bad pick by Polian for 3 reasons...He was undersized to play DE (Projected to play rush linebacker in the nfl)......He was physically very talented, Great accceleration, agile...But to raw to be a 1st rounder.....And like I said we had Freeney and Mathis, He wasn't going to get much playing time

Ill say this about him though, I think he was a hot head and that's why I think Grigson was so quick to trade because no way was it talent related

Roy Hilton! Got to go waaaaay back and think we got a 1st from the Saints! Think he was a solid pro, good serviceable every down player but receiving a 1st was great.

Didn't we also receive a first for Chris Chandler?

Yep and used it on Quentin Coryatt

Either trading George and getting a first, trading a second for Booger who was factor in the Colts winning the Super Bowl, or getting Davis for a second.

The Dickerson trade was big at the time because it brought the first real taste of success to the team in Indy but as the team has become more successful over the years that trade fades in terms of what it meant.

Thanks Gavin. Didn't we have two 1st, Coryatt and Emtmann.

Emtman came in the '92 draft, Only played 18 games as a Colt do to injuries but he had talent and was productive, 5 sacks in 14 starts his first 2 years and a pick 6, Just could not stay healthy

For defense he wasn't a good fit in 4-3 like you said but did good in 3-4. But it is true that the players around you make you better. When he was here the Colts never had that good defensive line. With the players the Bills have it makes him see better then he is. I'm not saying he is not good, but the team around him makes him better and gives him more opportunities to get to the QB

I remember the pick 6 but he was better in Lil Giants! Lol!

Booger McFarland for 2nd rounder was the best by far.

Pretty much was the final piece for the Super Bowl run. We came into the season with both Corey Simon and Montae Reagor on the Injury/PUP list. Not a chance we win the Super Bowl with Raheem Brock and Keyunta Dawson at DT.

It was pretty much a 2nd rounder for a Super Bowl trophy.

It was a bad trade, considering that we got next to nothing in return out of Kelvin Sheppard. If we had traded Hughes for a second round pick or even some late round flier pick, we would most likely be in a much better position then we are now. I am pretty sure Kelvin Sheppard is now out of the league, and Hughes is collecting nearly 10M$ a year on the new contract he got from the Bills.

I am not saying Hughes would have been just as successful in Indy as he was in Buffalo, but even 4-6 sacks a year from Hughes would have been a much better return then what we got out of Sheppard.

Sheppard was just a bad player. We essentially gave Jerry Hughes away for nothing.

Unfortunately, that goes in the worst Colts trade, or does it ? I can't say I'm sorry about having the Ravens.

Indianapolis Colts fans, such as myself, took a beating for years about the Colts moving. We were mocked, made fun of, and not even considered real fans. We were second class in the NFL.

Trust me when I say this because truer words have never been spoken. No one was happier than long time Indianapolis Colts fans when the Ravens won both Super Bowls. Nothing makes long time Indianapolis Colts fans feel better than separation of everything once Baltimore.

I believe all of the Colts records while in Baltimore belong to the Ravens. I wish we could rewrite history and simply view the 1984 Indianapolis Colts as an expansion/move.

No, they don't. Just like the rams and raiders in LA.

The ravens franchise, on the other hand, was the browns who moved from cleveland, but had to start over under a new name, sort of like an expansion team..

The colts just left the superbowl trophy in baltimore.. All records from baltimore era (unitas' passing records for example) still belong to the colts, not ravens..

It's all good for me now. I'm a Ravens fan, but still love the old Baltimore Colts. I guess it was what it was, and the Baltimore and Indy records are forever linked, like Brooklyn and LA with the Dodgers.
