Nate Irving Contract

I'm no cap wizard & I won't pretend to be one either, but I like this LB addition because I watched all of Denver's games last season & I like this kid. Solid player with good hustle & a competitive motor.

And my favorite: He's under 30. Just what we needed speed on defense. Nice.

It looks like it reflects spotty or uncertain contribution for next season due to him coming off of a knee injury, then the contract picks up at over $2 million per year when DQ's contract ends.

DQ is under contract til 2017. Freeman is the guy who has no contract after this season.

But DQ's contract was pretty much a 2 year deal. He'll be on the wrong side of his rime in 2016 and only will have a tad of guaranteed money eft on his deal. I think Irving is his replacement if he plays well and if he doesn't he also will be a "painless" cut.

OK, could be.

Hmmm. I thought DQ signed a 2 year contract last year. Maybe I'm thinking that it was structured like a 2 year deal that could be terminated easily after this year...front loaded.

nevermind...I see dw49 explained my thinking.

I think the days of bad contract signings are a thing of the past with the Colts as long as Grigson is the GM. One of the statements he made his first season was he would never put the team in the shape it was when he took over as far as the cap was concerned. Sometimes a few overlook the money aspect and just concentrate on the players.
