I know. I mean for everybody else

Everybody else wouldn't be able to watch the game otherwise. Not without Sunday Ticket, which already offers an online streaming option.

Also, it's Jags/Bills, which is a game most people don't care about unless they're Jags/Bills fans.

They could, but exclusivity = value. They want to sell the exclusive rights to this game to YouTube or whoever.

Meh I just don't think it will stick....unless people can hook their computer to their tv....Otherwise ya end up watching the action on a much smaller screen and who wants to do that unless ya either have to or you want Rewind

There are many ways to hook your computer up to your TV.

Totally agree with you on Cable being worthless. I cut mine a few weeks ago and my bill dropped down. The internet has replaced it mostly, just as it has run the newspaper industry into the ground.

Today's generation is smarter in terms of entertainment. Where in the 90's and 80's, watching television was the "thing to do" at home even when it was nothing but garbage on it, that no longer is the case. As there are many ways to entertain ourselves and find great hobbies that are time consuming that don't require us to sit in front of the big box and watch commercials every 3 minutes.

I doubt the NFL will be off TV since viewership statistics are very high. But if it was, that would be great for me personally since football is the only reason I keep cable, apart from catching preachers on in the wee hours of the morning to find amusingly funny.

Sports is the one thing that is keeping television clinging to life. It's the one they have always fell back on for a safety net (and just the reason today TV is all about SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS).

I don't think TV is relying on sports.   It's nice, but TV is hanging in there OK.    I think cable and satellite is in worse shape than the main 4 (ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox).   Many people are cancelling and going with just the over-the-air channels and an internet choice (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime ect..).

Yep, but currently there are not enough of the population that can or do hook up in a way that has a good picture.

Quantify "enough."

10% of US households had streaming devices through September 2014. That's well over 30 million people who can easily stream an HD picture from their PC to their TV. If you have a laptop with an HDMI output, you can do it that way. The Jaguars averaged 135,000 local TV viewers a game last year. Those local viewers can still watch the game on TV (as can viewers in the Bills TV market). The Jaguars Thursday game drew 4.9 million viewers. I'd argue that there's more than enough of the population that can watch a stream.

Realistically speaking, this is a game that most football fans outside of Jacksonville and Buffalo will have zero interest in. Anyone on the West Coast has to wake up at 6AM to watch this game. The early morning London game last year drew 8.5 million viewers, the lowest rated game of the season.

No question that this streaming plan will cut some people out. I think that's why they chose Jags/Bills to do this. I think it's just a pilot run to see how it goes, and to see if they can reach more international fans with a live game at a time that they wouldn't normally be able to see one. In the future, I think any streaming events will run parallel to TV broadcasts, not in place of them.

You are right, I was much too vague with my comment.

I was looking at the future and thinking of someones comment about how TV will soon be gone.

I don't think we are anywhere near having all NFL games streamed only.

I agree, probably not ever. I don't think TV as we know it will go away. Ease of use, picture quality, DVR, more programming, etc., all make it a superior option. But portability and the ability to pay for what you want will make streaming options more and more popular. When traveling, camping, mini vacations, etc., you can still watch the game, stream movies, etc.
