Luck and Peyton relationship?

Anyone know if they talk to each other at all? I think I heard maybe at the beginning they talked. And peyton is good friends with brady so why not luck?

I think a pep talk would help luck prepare against the pats or just as a qb in general. Im sure peyton had mentored eli before the 2007 sb. I know we all want him to build his own legacy but some advice doesnt help.

I know that luck always looked up to philip rivers.

Peyton and Brady are peers.

Peyton and Eli are siblings.

Peyton was forced to uproot his family and break his ties with the only team he had played with and was replaced by Andrew. Doubt they spend a lot of time conversing.

I would say it's more likely Andrew and Russel Wilson are on speaking terms.....they're peers.

You are making too much of Manning leaving the Colts because of Luck. Luck and Manning have been friends before Luck was drafted. Luck was invited to be at Mannings camp long before him being drafted.

I don't think he ever thought Luck would be the one replacing him, At least, not until the Colts secured the first overall pick

and probably sit around eating cheetos and watching tv together.

And Luck says "I grow tons of facial and neck hair". And Peyton says "I don't."

And then they both declare their hate for the Patriots together........and consider Salem witches in Massachusetts to help them out the next time either goes to Foxboro.

Peyton is one of Luck's closest football playing friends.

When he was deciding in 2011 whether to turn pro or not,  the one person outside his family he turned to was Peyton.

Peyton was Luck's idol growing up and was a counselor at Peyton's camp at least one year if not more.

I have no idea how often they talk -- if at all -- but they know each other and like each other and have each others phone number.

Communicating with each other would not be hard if they want to.

And none of what I've written in this post is stuff I know from being a Stanford fan.   This is material that's been widely reported and posted here on this website before.

Peyton is old enough and wise enough to know that this is a business, and the colts letting him go was a business decision and wasn't done out of spite.

Luck wasn't just a student but a counsellor at Manning's academy for a few years.

I'm not saying they're thick as thieves, but I'd say their on speaking terms and know each other pretty well.

Yes...and in the off season they regularly share a Papa Johns pizza, and then swig Kaopectate from the same bottle.

They've known each other.  It may be a stretch to call them friends.  Maybe more of a mentor kind of relationship at best.

I would say that I don't think there is hard feelings about Manning being released from the Colts and being replaced by Andrew.  That's the business they are in and it's just something you probably can't take too personally.

Reason I say this is Peyton is what like 39 years old, Luck is 25.  Peyton was playing high school ball when Luck was born.  They are in very different life stages and while I believe there is a mutual respect there, it would be very strange for them to be friends that talk often.

I would have a hard time being close friends with someone who wasn't at least married, not because I think married people are superior or anything, but I'm married with 2 kids and it's hard to find common ground with someone who is neither married nor has children.  When I was single it wasn't like I was good buddies with anyone who was married with kids either.

It's just that being in very different life stages would make it very difficult for them to be friends.  I suppose it's possible, but I would find it strange.

A stretch? Really? They have known each other since Andrew was a baby. Their fathers are best friends. It was Manning who Andrew called for advice when turning pro. Sorry but your life has zero to do with theirs.

Age doesn't determine friendship.

Yes, quite often friends are the same or similar age, but not always. Some of my closest friends range from 10 years older than me to 15 years younger.

Dear God...

If they are besties or can't stand the sight of each other, who freaking cares?

And this pep talk - I think another Dear God is in order for that comment alone.

Hogwash

Peyton Manning the son of a NFL QB hold a grudge against Andrew Luck ?  very doubtful he understood the situation was a hard decision but also the right decision .

Plus Andrew Luck attended Peyton Mannings passing academy as a student & a mentor they converse more than we as fans realize .

As a student of the game Peyton Manning has I can guarantee you realized that 12 has started off better than 18  in fact 1 article had Peyton saying 12's success is a result of attendance at the Manning Academy :D  Peyton has a good heart with no ill will towards 12 & yes they are peers the only difference is number of years in the NFL  . IMO 18 & 12 are friends

Agreed. I'm 28 and most of my friends are closer to 40 than their 20's. Oddly enough I have more in common with them than people my own age. I'm talk semi-regularly with one friend from high school, and one friend from college. My closest friends are the ones I've met since I graduated from college.

I think the word "acquaintance" would be more appropriate here. They are peers by default of them them sharing the same occupation within the same entity, the NFL.

They have known each other for years. Oliver and Archie are friends. Andrew reached out to Peyton his junior year regarding returning to Stanford for his senior year. Andrew was also a coach and participant many times at the Manning passing academy. So they are more than

acquaintances. I doubt they are besties or anything like that

Their fathers are good friends and were teammates. I doubt their is any animosity between Luck and Peyton at all. At the end of the day it is a business and was a business decision Manning understands that.

So if that was true isn't a mentor the ultimate friend? I just don't understand your hesitant in believing that Manning and Luck are friends. I would be willing to bet that if both were ask if they were friends they both would say yes.

It would be hard for them to let it be known they talk a lot considering the circumstances.

I'm sure they communicate because of their dads...

But I'd guess Peyton speaks to his brother far more than anybody and he's become more friendly with Tom Brady through the years..

Anything Peyton says about Andrew (or the other way around) would be blown out of proportion.

Here's what we know:

1. Their fathers played together i the NFL.

2. The families are familiar with one another.

3. Luck called Manning and asked for advice on whether he should remain at Stanford for 1-more year. Manning advised that he should stay, resulting in Luck entering the NFL the year the Colts had the #1 pick.

4. Luck attended and later tutored at the Manning Passing Academy.

5. Luck and Manning played together in the 2012 Pro Bowl.

 http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000129973/article/peyton-manning-engages-andrew-luck-at-pro-bowl

6. Luck and Manning have played against one another 3 times. Luck has praised Manning each time, while Manning has praised Luck some, but mostly skirted the issue and focused on the game, as Manning would typically do with any other game.

Being acquaintances and true friends are 2 totally different things.  It's not like Manning and Brady meet up and go get a cup of coffee all the time or do "bra" things.  Luck and Manning know each other, probably text every blue moon.  Does that mean they are friends, no.
