What they’re saying…

“The coaches are really on me as far as being a leader and a productive player. They believe I can be…Now I'm just trying to show Gator fans that I'm here to produce.” (8/10/12)

Earl Okine, UF defensive lineman

"He's made a lot of progress. He's going to help our football team. He's a big athlete. He's smart - we've just got to keep accelerating his learning curve and push him through some mental barriers when he's tired. He's going to add a lot to our team at the point of attack. He'll also do some things in short yardage and goal line situations." (8/21/10)

Brian White, UF Running Backs Coach

“He’s a great guy. He’s doing well in school, and he’s got to smile a little bit more in the weight room.  I love Earl. He’s got a great mom and dad here in town. He’s a big dude. Watch him in the next few years.” (2/7/08)
Urban Meyer, former UF Head Coach

“Earl has great burst off the ball and the longest wingspan I have ever seen. He can stand in the middle of your car and touch the end of the hood and trunk. He has those long arms. He was able to use leverage and he was quick. He can stick his foot in the ground and change directions better than anyone I’ve seen at this level.” (1/6/08)

Kevin Sullivan, North Head Coach at the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South Game

“He’s a real serious pass rusher with lots of range. He runs well.”

Eddy Moore, former Gainesville High School Head Coach

Can we stop with the "Camp Body" label?

This team isn't exactly an elite team. Anyone can come in (outside of QB) and win a starting job or at least significant playing time

Calling them a camp body does not mean they won't make the roster or that they won't start. It is simply saying they were not signed with the idea that they would be either A) starting or B) the primary backup though they have the chance to win those spots.

We just released RJF..... how do you know what Grigson was thinking when he signed this guy?

If we don't want to use the camp body term that's fine.  However I will say that I highly doubt that this guy even makes a the practice squad.

He wasn't good enough to play in the CFL.

If we where to put pro football into divisions kind of like soccer is.

Div 1: NFL

Div 2: CFL

Div 3: Arena League

Div 4: Pretty much anything else.

Guy got cut from a Div 2 league and played last year in Div 3 and Div 4.  I really really don't see him making an impact at the Division 1 level.

Sorry to inform you but the Colts are one of the elite teams IMO. You do not go 33-15 in three seasons and win a division 2 years in a row and not be considered one of the elite teams in the NFL. Only the elite teams make it to the finale championship games and the Colts did. You always start out with a negative comment even when your not trying to. Must be the water?

Seriously?

Who is the last "anyone" to "win a starting job at at least significant playing time?"

You mean like a player that didn't play big college ball, wasn't drafted, was cut by one NFL team and then kicked around the cfl for several years before getting a second chance with an NFL team? Never heard of anyone like that, I wonder if Jerrel Freeman knows anyone like that.

Why must any player who comes from an unknown source be considered a camp body? There have been players who were never drafted and walked on and made the all star team and played for super bowl winners. To automatically discount his ability without knowing is premature. Like I said, you never know. I have no clue as to what this player can do with the right coaching and experience. Grigs threw the dice and maybe crapped out but that remains to be seen. It would be cool if this guy could help the Colts. One thing I can say is Grigs does not leave any stone unturned. That is a good thing IMO.

Good catch.    Fair point.

Three years ago.

TK made it seem like this kind of thing happens all the time....

He's a camp body, but if he shows out he can make this team. The reality is ~90% of these type of guys don't make it through camp and ~90% of the ones who do are no more than special teams or minor role players.

"Camp body" is just a term used for guys who are top of the cut list going into camp. There's no need to get worked up over it.

Not saying it happens all the time but some of you don't even give these guys A chance. Just cause it's someone people never heard of, all of a sudden he's just a camp body.

Big difference though is Freeman was successful at the D3 college level (very few even get signed as UDFA) and he was successful at the CFL level.

Okine has not really been successful either the college level or CFL level, I think he only was on the practice squad for Calgary.

I personally don't think of him as a "camp body"....

But he does strike me as someone who might be a candidate as a PS player for a year or two?   Someone the team will try to groom...

He doesn't strike me as someone who has things fired out now and is ready to be a contributor right now...

You can get to the Conference Championship game without being elite? Dang. So who is elite? Just the Seahawks and Patriots? Just the Patriots?

Typically guys stand out at the lower levels and thats how they make a team....are all-pro in the CFL etc....this guy somehow managed to make an NFL team by actually going down the food chain and getting worse....hmmm....now I LOVE the guy lol.

He is the definition of a camp body. That said its up to him to make something of himself...hope he does..that would be a nice story and obviously a great gem....but I have a feeling when he gets cut it won't even make a thread.

I am not worked up at all. I thought I explained my point pretty good. If you would reread my comment I said I had no clue how this players is going to work out but I hoped he could. Was there something wrong with that statement?
