Andre Johnson asks to be cut or traded

I think this will be good for Houston. Johnson did not want to be part of the rebuild to begin with and O'Brien has a plan for this team so getting younger at that position and continuing to find the right QB will be key. The defense can carry the load in the short term which is a great thing to have while the O comes along.

This is a new era. You're right, we're getting younger and changing things up, and Rick Smith is more then happy to mold this team to O'Brien's vision. I think a lot of people tend to forget how well Mallett played early on, so he will be the guy we lean on to see if he really is the franchise QB. I hope the offense comes along sooner rather then later though, we can't just rely on 11 guys all the time.

Honestly I think Johnson is basically Reggie from a couple years ago...I'm not sure he is worth the money he is getting paid. Not saying he isn't a great wr but dang we aren't getting AJ of 5 yrs ago. He no longer is in his prime. I can't imagine bringing him in and not asking him to restructure his deal. I hope Houston can get him to stay there...I think they have a nice up and coming team and I would hate for them to lose a star like him....an icon for the organization. I mean we love Reggie here...it would be like if he went to NE a few years ago.

That's one reason I don't see Johnson going to Indianapolis. I think he has more respect for our organization than that. I don't see him ending up with any AFC South teams.

Meanwhile back on planet earth...

If the divorce is acrimonious, why wouldn't he want to stick it to the Texans?  If his goal is winning a Super Bowl, seems like Indy is a decent place to attempt that.  Plus if the money is right...

You may be right but I wouldn't respect them as much if they told me that I am not even going to start anymore and I am currently the all time leading receiver in the teams history.  He said no receiver on the Texans could outwork or out perform him.  It sounds as if he is pretty ticked off and right fully so.  On the other hand, he's played his whole career there so you could be right.  I guess only time will tell.  I would love to have Andre if the Colts can't get Marshall.  I don't know many teams who wouldn't want him.

Apparently Obrien told him he wasn't even going to start! No wonder why he wants out. I forget where I read it but his agent says there are 3 teams willing to pay him 10M$ a year. I highly doubt that. I think he is just trying to drive his price up. Anything under 5M$ sign him, anything over let him go elsewhere.

Your rudeness wasn't needed. Sure it is a place to attempt that...but there are other teams that I cam think of who need wide receiver talent and who have been to the Bowl recently. New England, Seattle...I'm sorry if I don't think its a given he wants to stick it to us. Why do fans always assume that?

Andre isn't the best receiver here anymore, and that was awfully apparent last year. I've said before that him going to play for the colt would be like Manning going to Tennessee or Houston to play. Plus, New England makes more sense unless he wants to see his old team twice a year instead of winning a ring.

Reports are that Manning was interested in Houston, and they weren't interested in him.

Also, the Patriots aren't winning the Super Bowl next year. I happen to know a guy...

I did not assume anything.  I said if the divorce is acrimonious, maybe he wants to get back at Houston.  That is a perfectly reasonable thing for a player to feel. Plus the other two things I mentioned are plenty good enough ideas why Indy is not an unreasonable landing place at all.

I've heard those reports. Still, Tennessee offered Manning a lot and considering his ties, I know a lot of people expected him to go there. He didn't though, which I do think had to do with respect, at least in part.

You clearly don't know Andre Johnson.

For what it's worth, Qwiz Boy is from Texas and is a Houston fan.

Just one of our many visitors from other teams.....

I know that. Still doesn't make his presumptions about Johnson's current emotional state valid.

OK.....   I wasn't sure if you knew that.

I offered that because as a fan of Houston,  he might indeed know his team/player better than we Colts fan do....

(not speaking about his current emotional state...)   Just knowing the players better in general.

Not really. Tennessee didn't get the chance to offer him anything, because he didn't want to go there. He didn't get a chance to even talk to the Texans, according to reports, because they didn't want him.

If he was willing to decline a divisional opponent out of respect, why not decline them all? And if there was any region he'd seem to gravitate toward, it would have been Tennessee.

I don't think AJ is a vindictive kind of person, based on what I've read and heard. But I think he's been irritated with the Texans for at least a year, maybe two. It's probably worse now, given that he feels he was disrespected. I could see anyone thinking: "I was ready to leave last year, and you guys begged/forced me to stay, and after I showed up and did my job without complaining, this is how you treat me? Okay, I got somethin' for you."

Look at how Steve Smith was with the Panthers. AJ and Smith are totally different personalities, but still. He plays a diva position at the highest level in the world. He has pride in his ability. And -- this is not a shot at your team, honest -- but he could feel like he sacrificed the prime of his career playing for a second rate team that only made the playoffs twice, and then he basically gets pushed out the door. All loyalties could be gone at this point.

I think it will all depend on what price tag is for Johnson. Could be he's expecting something in the 7-8 mill range or he might still think he's a 10 mill $ player. From my observations the rumors and speculations are often way , way off on what kind of deal this type player ends up signing. I would think those that are figuring 4-5 mil per year are going to be in for a surprise. No way , IMO, some team won't give him 7 to 8 mill.

Wow, I didn't know Tennessee never made him any offers. But you're right, especially concerning Andre Johnson. He's not vindictive at all like you said, and he really isn't spiteful, but to disregard him even considering the Colts was narrow-minded on my part. I just hope he doesn't end up in the division lol.

Oh yeah. Looks good.

I was just getting ready to post this!  Thing is Andre would have to be a different number unless Fleener gave it up!  It's nice looking tho! AJ in Colts Blue, gets to play with an awesome up and coming QB and would have a chance to get revenge twice a year against Hou!

NFL.com suggests a 3 year 12M$ deal like steve smith.

I would take AJ to be our #2 at that kind of a contract. Let Moncreif learn a little more as our #3. Anything under 6M a year I would take him. We gave Nicks 5.5M$ I'd be ok giving it to AJ.

If we can get him for 3yrs/$12 million, I hope Grigson has a contract in his hand as soon as he is released.

Oh, Qwiz...

In other news, did you see that Swearinger's dog bit Clowney? I told you Swearinger was terrible!

Yeah I just read that a few minutes ago hah. Swearinger is terrible and Clowney just can't catch a break, on the field and off of it lol! We're going to have to make him the bubble boy.
