Browns sign Josh McCown

Another stupid move by the browns.

We'll see but your probably right. If I were Cleveland I'd be going all out trying to trade up and get Winston or Mariotta. They have two 1st rounders remember. Of course Tampa would be dumb to give up the chance to take Winston IMO, but Marriotta could be had most likely.

Probably for more of a mentorship role. McCown is a solid pro and works hard. He's probably there to show Manziel the ropes and help him mature/develop

Same thing I said when the rumor first started. I think McCown is past the point of any franchise putting their trust in him to lead them.

What would you have them do?  There are limited FA options, they aren't going to get Winston, I don't think Mariota is a good option especially for the Browns, and they still want to see if their is any value in Manziel.  And even if they draft someone like Hundley, Petty, or Grayson those guys aren't day one starters.

I have no love for Cleveland and think they make a lot of dumb moves, but they don't have a ton of options at QB this year.

I'm sure Cleveland feels he will be a better option for a young QB to learn under than Hoyer . But regardless of "how much trust they have in him" , McCown going to play QB for Cleveland in 2015 unless they trade up for Winston and Marioata. Pretty much they were stuck with this. Mallett will stay in Houston. That leaves guys like Sanchez , Vick , Ponder and Locker from the free agent market. Trade for Cutler or Bradford ? So I guess I disagree with you guys that think this is more of a deal for a mentor than a QB. Cleveland can't possibly be counting on Manziel to start this year. It wouldn't surprise me if they even drafted another QB this year.

So you think they signed him to be the starter? I disagree but I guess we'll find out in '15. They know that the fans are frustrated, and using yet another first-round pick on a QB would be insanity. Three in four years? Yeah, I don't see them trying to trade up. Free agency hasn't begun yet so anything could happen there. Going with Bradford would be good if the guy could actually stay upright an entire season. I don't think Cutler is leaving Chicago and like you said, Mallett belongs to the Texans. Going after Ponder would be questionable as well, and Vick wouldn't be a fit at all in Cleveland.

I think they are clueless and probably don't know why they signed him. I do think his value is mostly like what you have (good team guy and mentor for a young QB) but considering what they have right now .. yeah I think he's the starter. Maybe Manziel but I think either late 2015 or 2016. Another QB in round 1 would be hilarious , especially since they would have to trade up besides

Yeah, the Browns will be the Browns lol. They have two ones and we all know that would just be a fraction of the cost to move up for Mariota so it'd be another major screwup for sure.

Yep. If you are a QB in Cleveland, you play. Between poor play, injuries, drug abuse, everyone gets a shot.

I think this is actually a decent move for them. McCown was pretty good for Chicago a couple of seasons ago so he is at least decent and can hopefully help Manziel mature and develop his game.

That's the only thing that makes sense..That's why its 3 years...

...McCown was very helpful to and supportive of Jay Cutler...

.....They expect Josh to start until Johnny gets himself together and then to back him up figuratively and literally

I thought Mariota would drop but reports were he had a nice combine. I was thinking he'd go around 12th-15th but maybe he does go top 3

Until you see the details of the deal , pretty hard to say its bad. Probably nothing much guaranteed past this year , making it pretty much a 1 year deal .

Just to update:

3 year $14M. $6.25M fully guaranteed. $5.25M in 2015 fully guaranteed. Can make up to $20M.

It's pricey considering the bad year he had at TB. But it's pretty much a stop gap 1 year deal for Cleveland. No doubt not a good deal or signing but they were between a rock and a hard place. Plus they have tons of cap space and 5.25 mill for their starting QB isn't really a big deal

The Colts just signed a 3 million dollar mentor. I guess he's going to be starting too?

A team that can contend for the SB  signing one of the best back-ups in the league vs. a bottom feeder team grasping at straws to put a competent QB on the field ... I'd say the 2 situations are apples and oranges.

I'd say calling Hasselbeck one of the best back-ups in the league is a stretch. Money is money, in regards to the topic at hand.

name five better backups

Just stop. The guy was bad his last few years in Seattle and he couldn't even keep a starting job in Tennessee. I guess you think he's one of the best bc he's played for 130 years.

Okay Houdini, tell me what else is in store for 2015. You're setting yourself up to be colossally wrong once again.

First off, Houdini wasn't a fortune teller, he was an escape artist.

Second, tell me where I have been wrong? Manziel is busting our of the league already and the browns know it.

I know what Houdini was. Kudos to you for catching on. But your assessment that a guy can bust out of the league after starting just two games in year one is severely misguided. Even major super busts like JaMarcus Russell got more time then that.
