Darnell Dockett Cut

Recommended Posts

I'd thoroughly investigate this one.

High effort player that feels like would be a good fit in Pagano's defense.

I'd make an exception to the (age) rule on him and offer him a sold competitive salary to try and get him.    Say 2/12

Arizona has said they hope he tests the markets and if he doesn't get a deal, they want him back.

I think he still has gas in the tank and tread on the tire....

Redding isn't starting over Jones and neither would Dockett

No, no, no, no, no. Not what I meant. LOL. I just meant I wouldn't mind us signing those guys. If that happened our starters would be Jones-Knighton-Dockett, then Redding would be the main backup.

Solid run defender, but offers little in terms of pass rush.  I wouldn't mind signing him if he's cheap.  He's a little bit of an eccentric character.

Unless things have changed in recent years -- he was much, much better as a pass rusher than a run defender in his prime.

This guy has Grigson written all over him. He likes the over-the-hill big names.

I was just going off what Rotoworld had on him:

Dockett was not amenable to a pay cut after missing all of 2014 with a torn ACL. He recently tweeted his displeasure with renegotiation talks. Dockett turns 34 in May and has lost most of his early-career pass-rush ability, though he remained a strong run defender the last time he played. Cutting Dockett frees up $6.8 million in salary cap space. GM Steve Keim said in a statement Friday that the Cardinals want Dockett back at a cheaper price. Feb 27 - 4:02 PM

I guess his ACL tear took away some of his pass rushing ability?

Since when?

Over-the-hill is the wrong term, rather overrated once top tier guys. Landry, Dq'well Jackson, RJF, Redding (though he's been good), Art Jones (rough year one), Nicks, etc.

Grigson seems to especially be open to any defensive lineman he can bring in and I can't blame him with our struggles.

Dockett was a quick DT that penetrated the line and disrupted the backfield. The Cards didn't use him as a pass rusher because they had pass rushers, they wanted the middle disrupted, and he did. I'd sign him to a 2 years 10 million dollar contrat, 2 million up front, 2 million year one and the 6 million ballance year 2. This way if he can't come back completely he's cut after year one..

Coming off a ACL injury the Cardinals had no choice due to cap space. If Dockett doesn't find someone to pay hIm top $ I think he will resign with Arizona.

Grigsom has signed some older veterans that really didn t pay off and ended up costing us a lot of $$....I don t want to see this happen again like signing Dockett and having him hurt ot not have enough gas in his tank to perform well,,,,,,,,,,,We need to get a few game changing FA's then get some mid level blue collar players like the Pats always have and draft smart .No Werner like guys WOW Werner turned out to be a MISS that Grigsom and Pagnano fell in love with head over heels,,,,,,,,So both of our head guys flunked big time with that one, that 'll haunt us for years to come a wasted draft pick Unless Werner somehow turns things around like ASAP.

A bit overdramatic regarding Werner.

$5 million a year? No thanks. Maybe a two year 6 million prove it deal.

And if we sign McPhee and get Mathis back.. I think our defensive front would be nasty.

I agree. Allow him to play out his rookie contract before we label him as a bust

We don t have time to have the luxury  of letting him play his rookie contract -He needs to shape up and get good NOW we are supposed to make the SBowl this season according to Colts front office We are going for broke

The 24th pick in the 2013 draft is going to haunt us for years....a bit dramatic don't you think?

We won't be interested in a 33 yr old Dockett coming off injury because our players are better Art Jones, Langford, Kerr, Anderson, even Quarles you can only carry so many DL.

This front 7 the D as a unit is ready to take a big jump forward. Guess who will be part of that? Werner the guy who set the franchise back for years. He may never be a pro bowler but set the franchise back for years....c'mon man

Werner--That pick just like any 1st round missed pick bust does set the franchise back 8-10 yrs the lengh of time Werner will or someone of his age will play

So I guess with this logic a UDFA playing well and starting sets a franchise ahead 8-10 years???

The only way this makes since is if you draft a QB somewhere in the top 5 and he's a bust.

No it doesnt. Not when his position isn't quarterback

If u don t think a 1st rd defensive player messes up a team on missing on him thats wrong it does.

Why? He can't play....he's a bust.

isnt his rookie contract just about over And for a 2st rder u expect a little more and a lot quicker -The Colts are not a team that can wait years for guys to develop
