Any news on Reggies retirement

Alright. I love Reggie just as much as the next fan, but I think its time for him to hang it up personally. He's had a great, hall of fame like career, but he isn't the same player due to injuries and age. The reason I hope he does retire is so we can upgrade. I look at like this. If we could get Brandon Marshall, hadn't you guys rather us get him than bring back Reggie? It seems like an obvious answer to me. Or Andre Johnson if or when he's cut.

If Reggie retires as an active player, I hope he will stay associated with the team as a receiver coach/consultant.  If that occured, what would be the Cap impact?

Reggie is a free agent. If he retires and accepts a coaching position that doesn't effect the cap at all.

I wouldn't count that dude out just yet. He could still be capable of being very productive or he could very well be at the end of his career. Any opinion right now is purely speculation based on anecdotal evidence.

I do wonder if the Colts though are really interested in bringing him back with the rumors regarding FA wide receivers. Also, I dont think the Colts are 100% loyal to aging players

I wouldn't mind if he comes back for one last super bowl run which would definitely solidify his case to be a 1st ballet hall of famer.

I think he could still be helpful in winning a few gamed and he would move up the record books a little more,

But if he doesn't i hope that he would accept a WR position job with us because he has done wonders with T.Y. and Moncrief just for example.

He is a great player and a future hall of famer but no chance he goes in on the first ballot.

New to the forums. Big colts fan here.

I was just curious as to what others think but if Reggie does retire I believe free agency would be the best option at replacing him. We have very young unexperienced WRs. TY will be our most experienced and Moncrief may break out this year but he is still inexperienced. I've seen mock drafts about us getting someone like DGB but we signed Duron Carter who measures up practically the same as DGB. So personally I would like Brandon Marshall or someone who has some good experience being a 1 or 2 WR. Mike Wallace isn't worth much money but I would maybe check him out. Not like he had a great QB in Ryan Tan. Wouldn't mind going after 1 big offensive playmaker as in a RB or WR then really focusing on the O and D Lines. Go after a safety in free agency maybe even a CB? I like Toler but there are a few good CBs on the market right now. Go after McPhee and as impossible as it is Justin Houston would be crazy in Indy although I know he will not get out of KC. thoughts?

I dont see why he wouldnt just check his resume. He paved his own way with and without Harrison.

In all honesty much respect to Peyton Manning but i personally think that Marvin, Reggie, Clark, etc made Peyton Manning and he's without a question 1st ballot hall of famer so i dont see why Marvin wasn't and Reggie won't.

you cant possibly believe Clark and Wayne made Peyton Manning, Gonna have to explain that one to me, If anyone helped make Peyton who he is/was then it was Tom Moore...Who I don't think gets nearly enough credit when discussing how Peyton was brought up in the league and how he has become one of the all time greatest QB's...Moores offense was always referred to as Mannings offense.......Moore installed the offense

I don't think Reggie can come back for anything more than a small role in the offense. Kinda like Hines finished in Pittsburg. Honestly he has nothing to play for but the love of the game. Made money. Won a SB. Has tons of numbers. Going to be in the HOF some day...not first ballot.

As for those guys making Peyton...thats the first time I've ever heard people say that. Pretty crazy if you ask me. No matter who Peyton plays with these guys get PAID and produce. He is the common denominator. Bradon Stokely, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, Dallas Clark, Jacob Tamme, Eric Decker, Emanuel Sanders...all were good or capable guys but excelled under him.

Writing Reggie off is too premature. With what he has done for this team he deserves the opportunity to prove himself. He will have training camp and 4 pre seasons games to prepare for the upcoming season. That is when the choice should be made and not before. For those who use the excuse that the Colts need the roster spot for another player seems to overlook that there will be 90 or so players in camp. If one spot cant be held for Reggie something is wrong.

No, whether he decides to come back or not (and whether Grigson wants him back) heavily effects FA and the draft going forward. What you outlined is a terrible idea and I know Reggie wouldn't be as selfish to do something like that.

Sorry Dustin, IMO you are wrong. One player is not going to make or break training camp or a draft.

I didn't say "make or break". If Reggie want's to come back and says so, we don't necessarily have to add another receiver. If he doesn't we do and that will be addressed in FA and the draft. If he says "ahhhh i'll wait to see how i feel after training camp and pre-season" then that puts us in an awkward position of not being sure whether or not we'd have to add a veteran receiver. If we do and Reggie decides he wants to play, you now sunk cap space into a guy who's probably not going to play many snaps. If he decides he doesn't, you spent all off-season taking away first-team reps from guys like Donte Moncrief and Duron Carter and it will take weeks for them to mesh with the first team unit.

If Reggie thinks he can come back and play at a high level than we should bring him back .... but, I agree with Dustin he needs to make that decision sooner rather than later because it changes how we approach the WR position for FA and the draft.  If he waits until end of camp to decide many of our FA options will be gone. And if we were thinking of getting both a FA and drafting a WR than the open WR roster spots on the roster are getting tight.

If a receiver is drafted it is because the Colts are in the mode to replace Reggie down the road. It is no big deal IMO. We still have a couple of lower tier receivers on the roster that can be let go. Boone, Lankford and Lenz are three that comes to mind.

This was my opinion last year & it will not change I feel Reggie is a perfectionist & last year was not a typical Reggie Wayne year ,

I realize his age I also realize he will not want to spend the rest of his life questioning this decision .

He will be back & his entrance to training camp will be his last so expect something out of the ordinary .

1 more season 1 more chance to go out on top ,

Colts are trying to get to the Super Bowl.  At this point in Reggie's career, the Colts would be more formidable with Brandon Marshall or Andre Johnson as the #2 behind T.Y. as opposed to Reggie.  Wayne may still be able to play a little but at 36 (37 when the season starts) it is doubtful he will be the same guy we've been privileged to watch for so many years.  Reggie's greatest value right now is sentimental...if he returns he could actually hold us back from getting better.  I am hoping he retires gracefully and helps the franchise in another capacity.

I'd prefer he retire.  I just think it's better for the team that way.

If he didn't, Indy would have to re-up him because of how long he's been here and even if he's completely ineffective they would have to keep him on til the end of the season.  Huge risk.

Just a guess, but Wayne wants to return and Colts will offer a one year contract.

needs to be the minimum, he is very slow and could be a hindrance, best suited to be a vocal presence and receiver's coach. I think he will take a very small amount to help with the acquisition of free agents
