Re-thinking Colts' DL situation....

I really feel like if we sign Nick Fairley and Terrance Knighton, we'll be able to stop the Pats run game. Throw in a little dash of Brandon Spikes and it's a certainty. If Knighton is looking for too much, Kenrick Ellis would be a nice cheap option and I feel he would be a good deal better than Chapman.

So.....

How do people see McPhee?

Is he a pass rushing OLB?

Or,  is he a pass rushing DE?

I'm asking to try and get a feel of where on a roster McPhee might fit?

I'm not sold on him. He is going to get paid, but I'm hoping it isn't us that pays the price. He wasn't a starter for the Ravens. Yes, I know they have a stout front 7, but I'm not sure he can be an every down player. I don't relish the idea of us picking up (and breaking the bank for) guys that weren't starters for their previous teams. RJF and DT are too fresh in my mind to believe that it is a fool proof plan to start a backup and get all-pro caliber talent.

I couldnt agree more, we need to stop paying backups starter money. If we want to make a serious push at the SB, we gotta shell out some dough, that's just the reality of it.

What I like about Ngata is that he is versatle. He can stay on the field and move around. He doesn't have to come off the field on passing downs and if a team is in a hurry up can play NT for us as well and keep Chapman out exept run downs. If he hits free agency he would be my number 1 want. He would be expensive but nothing compared to Suh. I'm just not sure about Fairley. He has been so up and down and weight issues I just don't like the risk of him. Detroit didn't even pick up his option because of the questionmarks...and they had to know Suh likely could be gone. You would think if they were that sold on the guy they wouldn't have let him be a FA. I really would like a big playmaker on that DL....whether thats Ngata, Suh, or JPP to help the pass rush I think we need a playmaker up front. I'm also going to keep an eye out on the 49ers LB situation. They are probably going to let go of Willis and if we can get him at a reasonable rate he would be a great leader on the field. Sometimes I'm just not sure our defense has that voice on the field and would help clean up things behind our line making them better than they may end up. I really think DE, G, and LB are the biggest concerns on this team. If we can hit a home run there it should go a long way towards getting us over the hump. I think we can find value in the backfield and wr and safety at that second tier and draft.
