About Donald Thomas....

.... a popular comment is that the Colts signed Thomas despite his history of injuries.

I'm not great searching the Internet, but my search for his injuries has only come up with one prior to coming to Indy...

He had a Lizfranc (foot) injury while with Miami.

That's all I can find.

Anyone have anything else that shows some injury history?

Thanks....

I was under no impression that Thomas was a huge injury risk prior to coming to Indy.  I was really excited about the signing.

Have to feel sorry for him, finally got a shot to be a starter someplace and gets 2 season ending injuries in a row.

There was the one injury with the Dolphins, which those aren't really something chronic.  They are generally freak accidents that don't have any lasting effect once treatment is complete, to my understanding.  The Torn pec at NE is a bit more of a concern as it's a problem that can have future ramifications, just depends on the player.  So yeah we did sign him despite an injury history, though one could say that the injury history was far enough in the past to be negligible, generally speaking.  Unfortunately for us, the injuries he's had here were unprecedented, so to speak, as he had never had any quad injuries as far as I know.

If we re-sign Thomas I'd like to see his contract incentive laden....like you only get paid per game you play or something. I think he'd be ok depth but he can't seem to last being a starter. Reitz also comes to mind, but even he's hurt less than Thomas.

I'd like to see that with Bradshaw, Adongo and Toler too.

Is he a Free Agent? If so, no way I would sign him back. No way

I see every year people talking about players coming back from injuries. From my experience so far for every comeback success story there are 3 or 4 failures. Based on this and other factors such as age, experience I am very skeptical about Colts ever getting meaningful production from Thomas, Ballard, Bradshaw, Mathis, Wayne, Adongo, etc. I know it can be argued for any one of those but if I was a betting man I would not lose much sleep over those bets.

I was at the game last year that he got hurt in.  Was disappointed then and even more this year when he was lost for the year.  I really liked the signing at the time but feel, like most others, that it is time to cut ties and move on.  Too bad as I would have liked to have seen what he could have been for us even "remotely" healthy.

He's still under contract for us. We would have to cut him, then re-sign him. I would only bring him back if he was playing for incentives on a cheap deal.

Astute again gagger.  He has a contract for 2 more years at $3.5M per.

The guy has a runt, squatty lower body, and just  a few decent games playing on a good line for NE after they had an injury.

Just because out Brilliant O-Line Specialist GM signed him he became Good. He is about 20 lbs light for the job and was awkward as a puller if you watched him. Not a good signing.

Just out of curiosity, and with no malice, could you name the Colts players you actually rate as good or better than good?

After I read your posts, I tend to think we are a 2-14 team, until I check the standings, and then I get pleasantly surprised.

So just curious to see who you like.

Thomas will probably be cut in 2015 and will either sign an incentive laden contract as you suggest or he'll sign a one year deal at around vet minimum which would be at around 855K if that number is the same as 2014.

As for Adongo , he didn't even make vet min which would be around 420K as he was cut and put on the PS. He earned around 310K for 2014. Bradshaw played for 855K which was the vermin. for a guy with more than 7 years in the league. So going forward , one would think both guys would be getting vet min next year so there would be no reason for a team to given either of them any more than that. So other words .. no on incentive contracts for those two guys.
