Keys to Beating New England

Andrew Luck's Beard

Recommended Posts

I've only been on the Denver, Ravens and Colts forums, and let me tell you, the Ravens are spending a lot of time complaining about Brady whining to officials, and Patriots' "cheating" in the game, etc. They are outraged Belichick didn't send over his playbook prior to the game. Hard to have a conversation over there about the actual game without it turning into an insult game. *IF* and I say *IF* the Patriots win Sunday, I hope I won't see that stuff around here. And if Colts win, I wouldn't want Pats fans coming on here complaining about the same.

Bellichick says Moncrief is "definitely a problem".

http://www.colts.com/news/article-1/Tom-Brady-Patriots-Players-Talk-About-Another-Matchup-With-The-Colts/328ad796-1954-42b4-9aa0-bd4481a6637a

I've heard him speak of Moncrief in this way on more than one occasion.  I'm wondering in this game if they will put the main focus on taking away Moncrief and Hilton with the intent on keeping us limited to focusing on the backs, tight ends, Nicks, and Wayne in the passing game?

I think we definitely have to make sure our running game is a threat in this one to really cause them some problems.

well i think revis might be on hilton going by his instagram pic am just glad dwayne allen playing aswell as he missed nearly all of the game against them last time

We can go all day with this... the Colts (this Luck version) has not played the Patriots twice in a season, Luck has never won in Foxboro, the Patriots have never lost the AFCCG when they played the late game...

None of it really matters.

What will matter is execution and ball security esp with the nasty wind/rain predicted.

I'm sorry, did you think I was predicting something?

I would love for Revis to match up against Hilton.  I think Hilton can beat him for some big games and Revis on Hilton means we have the advantage in every other matchup.

Revis should be on someone he can completely take away not limit that way the defense doesn't have to worry about that player.  Revis should match up with Moncrief/Nicks/Wayne whenever he can so that player is effectively out of the play.

That wasn't the Pats strategy last week.  Revis was on Steve Smith - - and had some problems with that match up too.  I can't see BB putting anyone 1-on-1 with TY, there's going to be a S over the top.  They aren't giving up anything deep to TY

They are going to have challenges rolling double coverage to T.Y. because of Moncrief.  That was the exact reason why Talib was on T.Y. one on one so many times last week because of the prescence of Moncrief.  It's a very hard thing to do when both of them are on the field at the same time.

Not to mention Fleener who can also go deep.

KEYS TO BEATING THE PATS BY A JETS FAN

I have scanned (did not read every single post in full) through thiis thread. I noticed two things that seem to be absent.

The first is everyone mentions pressure on Brady. What I didn't see wwas that it must come from UP THE MIDDLE. Edge rushing is far less effective because he steps up in the pocket and delivers the ball into the middle of the field. Brady does not throw particularly well outside the numbers.

The second and most important key to beating the Pats is rage. Some of you mentioned the Jets playoff win after losing 45-3 just six weeks earlier. In that game they scored 2 unnecessary late TDs to rub it in with Brady taunting the Jets sideline. The week before the game, the Jets were clearly seething...foaming at the mouth angry for payback. Cromartie was quoted about Brady, "He is an *, * Brady!" Coming out of the tunnel, Bart Scott had a Patriot fan flaunt a sign cracking fun at Rex's "foot fetish." Bart grabbed it, ripped it up and stomped over it. Therre is a youtube clip of it. Everyone remembers his post game rant. The Saturday night pregame speech from Dennis Byrd played a big role too.

The point is the Pats rely on their intimidation factor until a team decides they arent intimidated and beats them.

Don't get into a chess match with them. Go up their and horsekick those arrogrant * right in the teeth.

Good luck guys!

Jet fans, Steeler fans, Ravens fans, and many others are all behind the Colts this week.

That's a good point.  Makes me think that Moncrief and Fleener/Allen have to win more than their share of battles on Sunday.

TY Hilton will not get much of anything in this game.. and there are two excellent cover linebackers in Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins ... especially Jamie Collins, the best coverage linebacker in football who can cover ANY running back or tightend.. so Fleener and Allen will be neutralized.

Allen was "limited" by an injury that forced him out of the first game, and while you're at it tell us how Fleener was "limited" against the Patriots?  He toasted the Patriots secondary for most of the night.  Wasn't Collins and Hightower on the field?

Even great defenders can have a rare hiccup game, but I promise you both Hightower and Collins will be on it this Sunday.. as its the AFC Title game.. both should have made the all pro team.. great linebackers, that can do it all... can't wait to see them along with Akeem Ayers dominate in the passing game and up front with pressure.

I just hope the great tackling the Colts D had against Denver shows up again this weekend.

also, the Colts secondary is FAR better than Baltimore's secondary so they shouldn't be burned like Bmore was last week.

New England's offense is FAR better than Denver's offense right now.. Multitude of smart, versatile, and multi-talented weapons across the board that have great chemistry with the Second best Quarterback of all time in Tom Brady.

Weather is looking to be the 12th man for NE. If you take away Luck's ability to move the ball down the field via the long pass, this could be a long day for him. Will be interesting if rain makes it hard to throw long, if NE will pound the ball running, and how will the Colts stop the run, while trying to keep passing themselves? Hoping the Packers knock off Seattle... somehow.

Good luck today and may the best team win!

This one will come down to special teams.  Cribbs needs to be aware of his surroundings instead of getting 'layed out.'  Make good decisions Josh!

Pat McAfee has not been great kicking outdoors this year.  He really needs to drive the ball on kickoffs for no returns, and pin them deep with excellent directional kicks and solid coverage.  We cannot have shanks in Foxboro.

Adam V has missed 2 field goals in his last 2 games.  He needs to be Mr. Perfect for us to win by 3 on a last second FG.  Bob Lamey will go nuts!!!   :coltslogo:  :coltslogo:  :coltshelmet:  :coltshelmet:  :colts:  :colts:  :pass:  :pass: !!!!

Play with "rage!" Pressure up the middle... have the cornerbacks cheat short and to the middle of the field... force Brady to throw outside the numbers or deep. Take away the middle slants and seams.

Run the ball occasionally on 3rd and 5 or 6.

Then why even do it? Beyond stupid as there was clearly no need for the Pats to resort to such cheap tactics.

Yeah seriously. If the pats can learn (they won't) the Colts will beat them next year at home, that game next season should be the most highly anticipated game of next season for both teams and the NFL.

It will only be highly anticipated by America if the Colts can make significant strides this off season to toughen up in the trenches.  None of our games against the Pats in the Luck/Pagano era have been remotely close.  Not sure that America is eagerly anticipating the next match up from a competitive standpoint based on our track record.  But the Colts will mark it on their calendars and it will be a huge game for us Colts fans.  A litmus test if you will.  The Pats will have a chip on their shoulder towards us as they always do.

I agree 100%. Hopefully Grigson can make the team get way better with smart off season signings, waiving players and drafting.
