Ifo Ekpre-Olomu

Recommended Posts

Apparently the Oregon Ducks starting corner and potential top draft pick has suffered a severe knee injury in practice that has ended his season. I am not sure exactly how bad the knee injury was, other than "severe." It looks like Olomu could see an Aaron Colvin type fall in the draft.

Aaron Colvin was taken in the 4th round of the 2014 draft despite tearing his ACL at the Senior Bowl in January. He actually has played for the Jaguars this season, and has been fairly productive.

I am not sure the severity of the knee injury. Bleacher Report is stating that the injury could drop Olomu to the 4th round. I would be very happy to pick him up in the 4th round. I would even likely take him in the 3rd round, depending on the severity of the injury. Olomu is a tad undersized at 5'10" and 195 lbs, but he is a great man cover corner.

Possible defensive infused mock draft:

1.) DeForest Buckner DE Oregon (6'7" 290 lbs): Buckner is a stud with a much brighter future than Arik Armstead. He is an underclassman who has yet to declare.

2.) Eli Harold OLB Virginia (6'4" 250lbs): Underclassman who could bolster the pass rush

3.) Ifo Ekpre-Olomu CB (5'10" 195): I am not sure we could wait until the 4th round to pick him up, although perhaps we can trade back to the early 4th round.

4.) Eric Rowe S Utah (6'1" 205 lbs): Need to add talent at safety

I think you're going to find that IEO is closer to 5'9" and 185 than 5'10" and 195.

Either way,  he's more of a slot corner,  than a starting corner and likely too small to be a starting corner for the Colts.  Pags likes them bigger.     Why draft IEO when we have Butler.

Believe me, I love buying guys like this on the cheap,  I'm just not sure he's the guy we want to do that with?

there goes the national championship. How can you replace one of the top corners in all of college football, who is also their main punt return specialist.. He is also a great tackler, with a nose for the ball..I'd still take him high, as its reported its an ACL tear. He should be ready by mid-season of next year.

I would love to pick up Ifo Ekpre-Olomu in the 3rd, but no sooner, and I believe someone with a lot of draft picks is going to take him in the second. He was projected before the season started as a top 10, but has not had a great year, and has fallen to the late first to early second on most of the reputable mocks. I see him now as late 2nd, possibly early 3rd since the injury was a bad ACL tear, and he will not be ready by start of next season. I would be very surprised if whoever drafted him does not put him on IR for the whole year, and just let him watch, and rehab. SF has done a tremendous job of this with draft picks, since they have had so many. They did it with Lattimore, but his injuries were just too much, and they did it with Clemson's guard(name escapes me) last year, who was a possible low 1st round, and they snagged him in the 2nd round late. I was surprised, I thought he may fall to the fourth, so it shows teams are looking for good talent that may fall due to injuries. Chapman as an example would have never gone in the 5th if not for his injury. So Ifo Ekpre-Olomu will be a name we should look for beginning in the 2nd.
