what can be done to fix the o line?

Yes we won and the line looked better in the second half, but this line was getting abused in the first half. I realize GC was hurt but hes been bad this year too, and Reitz looked bad. Is it we have not much talent, the o line coach is bad or what?

If we ever hope to win a SB our line needs to be better before Luck gets hurt.

When you have the interior line made up of two rookies and a 2nd year player then I think we're going to have plenty of hit and miss games from the o line. And experience is the only thing that will make that better. My personal opinion is getting Shipley back in at center for now and picking up an experienced one in off season. We need strength at RT too.

I completely agree!  Our troubles are due to inexperienced interior lineman.  Nothing can change that but time.  When Shipley was in we had better run blocking.  I think coaches want Harrison in there because they are bent getting a promising young guy.  The only problem I have with it is our run game could be a little better.  Not a big fan of Thornton, I wish D Thomas wasn't always injured.  Mewhort will be great in time.  Cherilus isn't having a very good year, but him and Castonzo haven't been killing us.  Certainly nothing impressive from our O Line.  People insist Trent is the problem.

We would probably be alright with the running game with Reitz and Mewhort at the guards.

I would also consider a change at center.

The first change should've never happened

"Harrison will start as he has impressed us in practice"

........ Practice? We talking about practice man! *AI Voice*

Well, Trent is part of the problem. IMO, he seems to feel that the line isn't very good, so his confidence is down causing him to be tentative. Boom hits the hole like a RB should, full of confidence and expectation to make something happen. That just doesn't show in Trents play. If all the RB's that go in with the same OL gain more yards than he does, it says something about him. I really feel that a lot of his issue is between his ears. Confidence and the mental aspects get overlooked a lot.

Thought the whole o-line was simply dreadful the entire first half.

Worst half of blocking both the run and pass I've ever seen.

That's as angry as I've ever been as a Colts fan.     :flaming:     :bomb:     :censored2:        :cuss:

Thought the line really perked up in the 3rd quarter.   Looked like Nixon replaced Thornton for most of it, and I think Nixon played very well.   Shiply came in for a play or two on short yardage and we wanted to a people-mover up front.

In the off-season we need a quality veteran and I'm willing to commit our 1st round pick also to build a better line.

And,  I think Grigson/Pagano need to take a long hard look at the quality of the OL-coaching.   Maybe it's fine,  maybe it's not.  But a complete re-thinking on our approach is badly needed.

Three years of this is long enough.

I can't really disagree with any of that. I still have hope that Harrision has some potential but Thornton has been bad this season, Cherilus I don't think is the answer any more so we might be looking at 3 spots we need an upgrade at.

However I'm starting to think there's something not just right with the O-Line coaching, not been any real cohesiveness to the unit in the last few games, lots of mis-communication. I know coaching can go only so far but still.

Ho hum walk away with a W but it wasn't exactly what we needed after the Pats game.

There are no players on the roster at this time that would help. What are the coaches going to do? Put on pads themselves?

Funny another person in another thread said that the answers to fixing all our o-line problems are on the bench, hahaha. This forum is fun to read after games.

Put shock collars on them during practice, everytime Luck gets touched they get zapped...

That's hilarious!  I wouldn't be surprised if some coach considered it.

Seriously though, I really think it's the coaching and the blocking schemes.  I'm not an expert on O Line blocking, but it seems that there are teams with less talent doing more with them.

Yeah need more talent on the O-line. Costanzo is a legitimate franchise LT, Mewhort is a good for a rookie. I think Shipley was better than Harrison though. Thornton and/or Cherlius could be upgraded upon next season. But the deficiencies on this line is the only thing holding the offense back.
