DQ Jackson

We gave him a 4 year $22M contract ($11M guaranteed) who was brought in to stop the run.

He seems to be pretty bad against the run and is a huge liability in coverage, so I'm not sure what he's doing on the field.

I realize that PFF isn't the be all end all, but does anyone have the numbers? He was -11.6 last year over 16 games just for reference.

I realize McNary hasn't been awesome, but why hasn't Muamba seen more playing time? With Freeman also not playing well (hurt maybe?) we are hurting at ILB bad.

Help me understand!!

I've seen all I need to see from Muamba. I forgot what game it was, but he got a few snaps because Freeman was out and he had some missed tackles. A.Jackson is the one I want to see.

The President!!! He got a bit of garbage time at the end of the pats game, but I really want to see what he can do. He may not be ready just yet, but I think he'll be a thumper in the middle.

DQ did have 11 tackles last week.  He cannot make every tackle.  This is a team sport.  If the DL demands double teams he should get some free shots.  They hit him with blockers all game long.  The DL was NOT doing their jobs.

I need to ask where has Freeman been?  MIA?

Andrew Jackson can stop the run.....he is worse than DQ in coverage.  He will get better the more he sees the field IMO.

He hasn't been the best against the run but as a leader he has been great.  I believe he leads the team in tackles too, if I am not mistaken.  I think he was a good pick up.  Heading into the game VS the Pats the Colts were 9th against the run, if I am not mistaken.  Gray ran all over the Colts but it's not on 1 person.  Before that game I think Fosters the only back who ran for 100+, that's an improvement from the past 2 or 3 years in my opinion as long as none of this 200 yd 4TD crap happens any more.

Yeah, I do miss a play by play NFL announcer saying "Freeman on the sack, 4th down, & the opposing team must punt now" over the air Brent.

Hey, one out of two ain't bad...right? lol

I'm not sure how anyone could be worse in coverage.

I wouldn't take a couple of snaps as a sample size for Muamba. He did great in the preseason. <- Yes he played against some 2nd and 3rd stringers, but he played well against 1st stringers also.

I'm down for trying A.Jax out too. Wait, I like the sound of that

Just another thread complaining about a player....

Can we please get a win so this will all stop for a week or so.

I think this is probably a reaction to what I saw...one of the worst displays of tackling, getting off blocks, and your basic will to want to play defense. I'll say this, the entire defense sucked, not just Jackson. It was awful and the defensive unit as a whole should be ashamed to call themselves professional football players. From what I saw there were plenty of times I think guys were downright afraid to get in gray's way. Tip of the cap to him because I think he knew it and took advantage of it.

I have not gotten a great look at Muamba other than preseason.  I like his coverage ability if he is up with the game speed.  I am not against Andy Studebaker in the middle either.

I like the idea of Studebaker on the inside. We should use McNary on the outside , so those two could just switch places.

i am not a fan of signing players to their third contract in the nfl, qb being the exception. i said before the draft that inside lb is a big need because i didn't think freeman was as good as everyone was saying. that wasn't real popular here just like when i said the same thing about angerer. the colts need to spend higher picks on ilb's to jet the kind of athletes needed to improve the position. they get players that are ether too small or too slow, that's why they weren't drafted higher.

DQ has consistently been out of position facing the run and overmatched facing the pass, all season. Most of his tackles in the last game were after long gains. I was never high on us acquiring him, and he's proven to be even worse than I was expecting initially

Freemans production in his first two years compared to Lewis's says otherwise, Freeman is not healthy this year. He has only played in 67.5% of the teams defensive snaps.....443

People over hyped Freeman the same reason they hyped up a lot of Grigsons FA signings. Because of how he was able to find starters and create an 11-5 team, for two consecutive seasons even with a total roster overhaul and dead cap. Freeman certainly played well for a guy from the CFL, but I think it was clear that he was stop gap. His contract is up this season, and I don't think he gets re-signed.

This is probably the draft where Grigson gets long term answers at key defensive positions via the draft. A lot of the 2012 class will be getting resigned so there won't be a lot of action in FA. I feel DQ was brought in for leadership and as a short term answer until we find something solid.

Totally agree with this post.  To change from a Tampa 2 to a 34 under 53 man roster and salary cap restraints takes more than two years.  Every FA signing, with the exception of Davis, Toler, and Jones, is a stop gap.

He needs to find several long term defensive players in the draft this spring, like he has on offense the last few drafts.

If I used McNary on the outside, I would have him in Walden's spot.  He is smart enough to stay home.  That is IF Walden needs some rest.  Try it against the Jags if we are up.  I am attending the game tomorrow....cannot wait to analyze.

He has not been worse.  I am a little disappointed in a couple of games for sure.  Freeman has been awful in my eyes.  He may be the REASON DQ is out of position.  I will be watching tomorrow at the game.

D'Qwell Jackson has been a liability at stopping the run he can't shed the blockers, the game against NE was awful all the Defense played bad but Jackson and Freeman couldn't stop the run they were always 1 vs 1( ILB vs OL )and they were either too close to the line or too slow to react and then they got blocked all the game, they are supposed to be agile than OL in that type of situation you can see if you have good ILB, D'qwell has bring a little leadership but we already had Mathis, Redding to be the leaders of the defense, i think we are tied to D'Qwell at least another year because of the guaranteed money but he isn't getting any younger so we may draft high an ILB because right now we are undersized at ILB and the teams are gonna follow the blueprint of NE against the Colts for the rest of the season and Arthur Jones is gonna improve the Defense but i am not particularly excited to see our ILBs nor DL.

    • Isaiah Land he says.     Every year it happens. The Dallas Cowboys make some tough roster cuts and we all wait nervously to see if our favorite prospects make it cleanly through waivers. Most do, but every once in a while, a team will scoop up that one guy we were hoping made it to the practice squad. This year, that player is edge rusher Isaiah Land. An undrafted free agent from Florida A&M, Land dealt with injuries his final year in college, but had a remarkable season in 2021 when he finished with 19 sacks, 25.5 tackles for a loss, and three fumble recoveries. While there is a lot to be uncovered with him, he still flashed enough to draw interest from the Cowboys. Throughout the summer, the young edge rusher had impressed and it looked like the team had found another diamond in the rough. Land was fantastic during the preseason. In three games, he finished with 10 total pressures, which was the second-most of any player on any NFL team this preseason. He also finished with seven hurries on 45 pass-rushing snaps. He only recorded one official sack but finished with a pass rush win rate of 20%. Not only that, he had opposing tackles so worried about his get-off that they were regularly jumping early. There were several instances when tackles would get called for a false start.    Might as well be optimistic about  Woods and Land contributing to our resurrection.
    • Nice catch Stitch.  Year two of Steichen, our very functional TE group and Downs gives me very high expectations that we will be highly effective attacking the middle of the field. If we do add another WR to help complement the other side of the field, Pittman's ability to be even more outstanding only goes up. And I feel confident another guy will be added. Our offense should be very strong for 2024.
    • I'm hopeful Colts resign Blackmon and do this in the draft
    • I just saw Pittman's "Reception Perception" charts... so here it goes:
