oldunclemark
Up in Northwest Indiana, many of us are Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears fans to varying degrees. Why not? This was Bear country before the Colts moved to Indy. We hear and read plenty about both teams and there's no consistent conflict.. The Bears and Colts only play once every four years. They are in different conferences and usually are a totally different style of team. Bears usually have a strong running game and the desire to run...Colts usually have the better QB and the better passing philosophy. Colts play indoors in perfect conditions. Bears play outdoors on the Lake front up in Chicago.... They are different flavors of the same thing. Its not at all like the Pacers and Bulls, who are bitter rivals and play in the same conference. Its a lot of fun to be fans of the Bears and Colts. ..at least it was until Sunday.. ...at 12 noon (we're on Central time up here) the 'Monsters of the Midway' roared into New England to take out the evil forces of the Patriots and their (so we were told) crippled offense. Onward (Indiana native) Jay Cutler. Onward! FINAL SCORE New England 51, Bears 23 No problem. In the 3 o'clock game. The high-flying Colts. Our 'other' team would save the day by taking it to the Steelers, a fading dynasty with a (we were told) crippled defense. All we need is some good Luck!!! FINAL SCORE: Pittsburgh 51, Colts 34 In six hours..1,126 total yards...66 first downs and, again, 102 evenly divided points spaced out over six hours of 'play'. Oh well. We're close to Wisconsin. How did the Packers do Sunday?.
Valpo2004
Lions won through a stroke of good luck, we're also close to Michigan, just saying. I work in South Bend and live in the country between South Bend and New Carlisle. A lot of Bears fans around here but a pretty sizeable number of Colts fans. I'm just a Colts fan. I never liked Chicago anyways. I could imagine myself living in Indianapolis. To get me to live in Chicago you'd have to threaten my life or offer me a million dollars. When the wife and I want to have a weekend getaway, we go to Indianapolis, we won't even stay a night in the Chicago area.

sfergson727
Yup, living in Valpo, I follow three teams, Colts (live and breath), Broncos (Peyton) and Bears (by marriage). Sunday was pretty bleak, and since the Broncos played earlier in the week, there was no respite. That Sunday, Oct. 26 will forever be known as "black Sunday" in my household. thedude
I don't understand how fan loyalty for a team can be created because a particular player went to that team. Unless that player is your Son or something.
CantBeStopped
I also live in northern indiana. I dont root for the bears but my best friend who passed away at the age of 19 from cancer was a die hard bears fan. So i kinda keep the bears in mind. I cant stand most their fans around this area though. It seems they are much happier when the colts lose a game then when the bears win a game

Unless that player is your Son or something. Its not that people are denver fans.. people here are peyton manning fans.. if you dont root for peyton or want to see him do good.. your obviously not a real colts fan. Peyton is the best qb our franchise has ever had. To all a sudden not be a fan or at least respect him because he went to another team is down right childish. Though it may be true for you, it's not for all.Personally, I really don't care for the Broncos, at all. I hope Peyton does well, but that the Broncos lose miserably. So, the 'real Colts fan' might want to be re-thought. "Peyton is the best qb our franchise has ever had":Indy? Yes.Franchise? Top two, definitely. It's been debated here before, and there's no correct answer.

PeriodCouldn't have said it better myself. Indianapolis owes the fact that the Colts are still there to Peyton. I remember many, many blackouts and half filled RCA dome games. Had it not been for Peyton, Lucas Oil Stadium is never built and most likely the Colts would be in LA or somewhere else that wants a team. Peyton is Indianapolis football, like it or not. Luck will be too.

I root for the Colts when they are playing Peyton but outside of that I see no reason to root against him or his team. I hope they win it all if the Colts arn't going to. oldunclemark
This post s too funny. I remember the dual alliances when I lived in Walkerton. I remember when the Bear splayed the Colts in the Syuper Bowl in 2005.. I went into a supermarket in LaPorte and they had a big SuperBowl display for pepsi or something and there was a giant cardbard football player next to the cases of pop. And the cardboard football player had a Miami jersey on it. So I asked the girl at the register..You know the game is between the Colts and the Bears, right? She said 'Sure, we know but if we put a Colts player there, Bear fans won buy anything and if we put a Bears player there,. Colts fans wont buy anything." Folks up here grew up Bears fans but a lot of younger folks have adopted the Colts because of Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck. Its good to have 2 teams (Most of the time)

BOTT
Dual fans of the colts and bears should be put in front of the firing squad. And really, damn near the whole state was bears country prior to the colts arrival. I live in central indiana and there still quite a few miserable souls who root for the bears.

In reality, you're correct. You don't need to be careful with anything. Nobody does. They should only expect the consequences, and the consequences here are minor. The issue would simply be placing rules on what a 'real Colts fan' is. It's been brought up before, and drawn much ire, as it means different things to different people. Yes, I can honestly say that I didn't root for Peyton and the Broncos in the Super Bowl last year.I wish Peyton all good things ('cept anytime it involves the Colts), but I don't root for the Broncos. This creates an inner conflict I'll have to work out......or live with, which is more likely.

You wish peyton to do well but you didnt want him to win the superbowl?.. Let me put it this way: As long as the Colts aren't effected, I'm all for Peyton winning another SB, as long as the Broncos don't.If both of those things could happen, I'd be fine. It's not just the Broncos, though. If he were a Cowboy, Bear, Raider, and a couple others, I'd have the same problem.I did mention it caused an inner conflict. Do you have a team you just despise? What if Peyton was their QB? relishfunk
Moved up to LaPorte in 07 from Indy. I was blown away by the hatred for the Colts from Bears fans. Obviously there is a bad taste from the super bowl, but STILL to this day, when I go to a bar to watch the game Bears fans talk a ton of smack (ummmm...hey, bro...we don't even play the Bears. SMH). I don't hate the Bears, I actually have grown to like them (except for Cutler). On top of it I am the GM of a popular sports bar in town so I get to hear the smack talk ALLL WEEK EVERY WEEK. Not that big of a deal though, since the argument is just too easy to win. Colts > Bears...Fact
