freeman and jackson. best ILB duo in the league?

Surely there is a better duo somewhere in the league. Not saying that to shoot down what we have. I'm very happy with our players. Willis / Bowman when they're both back will be much better than our duo.  I might give the nod to Harris / Davis in New York.

demario davis is a beast

As of now, Bowman is out... For arguments sake, just rule them out of the conversation here...  Name another duo better than ours??  Freeman is a difference maker out there this year.  The D just plays WAY better when he is healthy and out there.

On a side note: I think the way Werner is playing, we might be talking best set of 4 LBs in the league if Mathis was healthy...

if you watched the video of Xs and Os with hasslebeck, he says their the best ILB duo in the league. agree or disagree?

Jackson is playing better the last few games and Freeman is mighty good in the run game, and with a pass rush does look better against the pass.

I could see them being in the top ten.

Love the trend and sure would like them to be healthy come playoff time, Especially Freeman.

I think ILB is still the weakest spot on our defense. They are playing better than they were the first couple weeks, but still weak in coverage, and still susceptible to speedy RBs once they get to the second level.

Give me the Jets, Ravens and Steelers. Of course the Niners, when healthy. And there are some 4-3 defenses with a couple ILB type guys that are better than ours.

I'll say the Steelers ILB duo will be a force for some time. Shazier and Timmons have the potential to be just as good as the Niners duo. The thing that hurts them will be the DLINE in Pit. They have one above average player in Heyward and then a bunch of old and below average lineman.

Also Baltimore got a gem in Mosley. And while I think Shazier is an amazing player I think Mosley is as well. Loving the LB'ers of this class :-)

Seattle plays 3-4 personnel in their base 4-3, so KJ Wright and Bobby Wagner are a fair comparison as ILB's by my thinking.  I envy their productivity as run, hit and cover LB's.  The number of plays they snuff out for little or no gain seems very high to me - cover a lot of ground.

That said, the productivity we are getting at ILB for the last 3 games since Freeman has returned does suggest that Freeman/DQ should be on the watch list for top duos.  I don't think it is fair to call the ILB position our weakest spot now that Freeman is back in the line-up.  When the performances against B-More and Cincy included Freeman, and the Philly game didn't, it may not be a coincidence.  Have to see how it plays out with a larger sample size.

I call it the weakest unit, but that doesn't mean they're bad. Our secondary is playing really, really well, our defensive line is stopping the run and getting penetration, the OLBs are getting pressure on the QB. The ILBs are doing a good job for the most part as well, but there are a couple of pass plays that we give up in the middle of the field every game as a result of subpar coverage, or a missed tackle against a back, etc.

So I don't mean to say that the ILBs aren't good. I think they are, especially with Freeman out there instead of McNary, who I think is only a situational player. But I do think they are weakest unit on the defense.

While there was enough blame to go around on both sides of the ball....I'll come back to this conversation we started yesterday and suggest that your commentary was on target, if not prophetic....

If it were prophetic, I'd have been far more aggressive in my comments. The ILBs were awful yesterday, so were the inside corners.
