Waiver Wire Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Ok, so as it happens.

Someone dropped Adrian Peterson in my league this week. Now, I have the #2 overall waiver priority, and the #1 guy is not active in free agency.

The question is, someone also dropped Ryan Mathews. Now I have Bobby Rainey, who is now cannon fodder for me, and after the buy this week, Ben Tate will be back in action, leaving me with Shady McCoy, Tate, and Doug Martin.

Now, the guy who dropped Peterson has Luck and Stafford, and his only RB is Ellington.

I'm trying to get Luck from him, because my QB Romo is horrible.

The question is, do I pick up Peterson and stash him? Or do I pick up Mathews as trade bait? The RB waiver wire is looking pretty bleak.

I dont think he would let go of Luck over stafford.  i wouldnt, not the way he has been playing.  I thought matthews was goinig to be out for awhile.  if he dropped AP, then who did he pick up in his place.  you dont typically drop someone and not find a replacement for him.  Unless he was just stacked with 5 RB on his team.   I willing to bet you he dropped AP and is line to pick up someone...and i doubt its matthews who is going to be out for 4-5 weeks. Idk who is available for yo ubut the top RB's left in my leagues are:

Khiry Robinson,  Justin Forsett, Bernard Pierce, Fred Jackson, Donald Brown, Shonn Greene, and L. Blount.  If any of them are available in your league, to then they may be the person he is targeting.  But theres a number of other options people are looking at as well like the bradshaw type.

If you can survive, you trade a current RB you have and stash AP, but nobody knows when he could return.

The best available RB is Chris Ivory. He also dropped Trent Richardson. The only RB on his team is Ellington at the moment, Steven Jackson is also available, but still not a good option. That is why I was going to target Mathews, in 3-4 weeks when he is back, he would be an upgrade over Ivory or anyone else he can get on waivers.

On the other hand if Petrson plays again this season, I'm looking at a team with McCoy and Peterson at RB.

then you could pick him up, trade to get luck or stafford (both are good, stafford just had a bad game), and not really be out of much until McCoy hits the bye week in week 7.  In which case this is the time Matthews might be back around and you could pick him up then.

I know it's a tough call.

I also have Josh Gordon sitting around on the bench, making my bench really think with Peterson.

You have a greater shot at Ryan Mathews playing and being on a team like the Chargers that will be contending well into the playoffs than Peterson playing, just my opinion. If history is any indication, Chargers and Rivers play well historically in December which will be the critical FF month.

IDK what you do with the RB situation but I just don't see you getting him to trade Luck.

At this point I think Luck is like #2 QB in fantasy.  Stafford is a decent starter, you might be able to get him to part ways with Stafford.

to date he has benched Luck, only playing the QB that is "projected" to get more

I could be wrong but I don't think AP is going to play at all this season. Even after trial he is going to be facing a pretty long suspension form the NFL. He has made himself look kinda non caring about what anyone thinks of his so called punishment on his son. Now there is another report about another abuse incident involving his other son by a different woman. Great player but it seems he don't know how to handle himself or the media.

    • Oh he didn’t the other era I was referring to with the draft well and keep your we approach was Polian not Grigson.  I should have been more clear.
    • My issue all along hasn’t been with Destin.  It’s been with the random people on twitter who report something and claim they are an insider like pretty Rickey.     Like I said I think Destin is a young kid trying to make it in reporting and has to start somewhere.  With that said, something Holder said at the end of his interview this is his living so if he reports something he knows it knows it and can’t afford to be wrong.  Destin admitted when he reported this he didn’t have the contract part of it confirmed and he broke a cardinal rule in reporting, you don’t report something unless you know all of it for sure.  I hope he learns from this.   Its pretty easy to tell from the Holder interview he was hearing about Sneed all the way back to the combine and that the Colts were disappointed when he was franchised tag and he wasn’t just a free agent.  So he’s been hearing about this probably as long if not longer than Destin has. He didn’t report it though because he didn’t have things nailed down.     worth noting Holder did not and has not taken a shot at Destin.  Destin said he respected Holder and knows how hard he works.  Maybe we can all learn a little something from how they treated each other in this and didn’t attack each other.
    • There are 32 teams.   Not all teams are created equal.   There are built in advantages that big market teams have that small market teams don’t.   It’s not as cut and dry as you make it out to be.
    • You do know it’s just a joke right… I’m not on twitter, I don’t follow the guy or any guys. I see stuff that is posted on here and engage, but always take reports with a grain of salt. You never have a guy on the roster until the contract is signed and the trade is official.    There is a lot Ballard isn’t going to say publicly. His ability to manipulate q and a’s to do exactly that is a strength. “Look- I like Destin… he just needs more time in the reporting field.” - Chris Ballard probably  because Grigson couldn’t draft after the layup he had with Andrew Luck, and hitting on T.Y Hilton…
    • That is the approach to building a team that I prefer. I never saw Grigson as following that approach. He seemed to sign many free agents that did not work. But Ballard does follow that approach, almost to a fault.
