The Jets are the hardest team to figure out. Every year the bounce around from good to great to absolutely terrible. Like a box of chocolates...you never know what your going to get. They also seem to have a play that defines them..from buttfumble to some crazy dumb gaffe....maybe they are just getting it out of the way early this year. It would be comical if there weren't a lot of Jets fans out there suffering through it. Its like the Ryans are snake bit by dumb broken plays etc.

I don't know if that's accurate. Rex called a timeout when he was DC for the Ravens in 2007. Cost them a win against the Pats on a 4th down stop. Maybe the rule has changed since then.

I'm not sure if it's accurate either after reading the OP lol. I had thought that was the case though. Learn something new every day.

That TO was called by Rex Ryan, who was the Ravens' DC at the time. And I don't think coordinators are allowed to call TOs either....

 

Rex sure does have bad luck with good plays being negated by last second TOs.

I thought that only the HC could call a timeout from the sideline?

That is what many are saying, but in all honesty if someone behind you yells time out it would be tough to tell if it is the head coach... or just some random guy. Especially if you are trying to keep an eye on the play among other things.

Ironically, Rex Ryan - at the time Baltimore's DC - was the caller of the "unintentional time out" that resulted in the Patriots beating the Ravens way back in 2007. Baltimore had them stopped on a 4th down play but Rex called timeout just before the snap, nullifying the play. Eerily similar.

I think the Ravens had the Patriots stopped the following two plays too. If I remember, the next play, the Ravens stuffed the Patriots again, but the play was ruled dead due to a false start on the Patriots, which set up like a 4th and 6. Then the next play, Brady throws an incomplete pass in the end zone and defensive holding is called on the Ravens. Talk about having more chances to win the game than I can count on one hand.

 

And on the final drive, the Ravens did connect on a Hail Mary that was caught at like the Pats' 3 yard line or something.

Can't remember the exact order of things but yeah, that did happen too! 

 

In hindsight I always wonder if they would have somehow been better off losing that game. Would have taken the pressure off in going undefeated without sacrificing home field or playoff seeding. This was part of a stretch of pretty tight games that they won, and the pressure built up with every win.

The fourth and six play was just a short pass to pick up the first. No penalty. And fourth and six is harder to pick up then fourth and one.

The Gaffney play was at the end of the game where there was defensive holding and then a Ravens player took off his helmet and threw it tacking on another 15 yards on the kickoff. Ravens completely lost it at the end.

There's a reason they call him Greenie..

...According to him..the Jets have the best front 7 in the NFL

..and the worst secondary in the NFL. Typical extreme opinion fan...

..and somebody has to tell him to shave off that horrible half beard. He looks like a crackhead.

      Do u ever get there is any sense of urgency with Ballard when he speaks bout the team? I hear a lot of I think they should. He just comes across like a guy who feels that he is safe as long as Irsay is the owner. Smooth talker, I guess, and I tire of the soft ball questions from the media. Your team was like at the bottom of the league and that was against horrendous qb play.  Your 2nd round pick corner couldn't stay healthy. Your other corners are late round picks and one coming back from serious injury. I know it's a presser and he can't give it away but man, you would think his defense is just peachy. I honestly think this D needs so much work both schematically and on the talent side. I do think listening to him, he will trade back. I think that the guys that he really covets will be gone or way too expensive. The  top 3 wrs will be gone as will be Bowers. Mitchell is probably not his guy the Dends will go fast. There might be a guy at say 12 but I think he won't pill the trigger and say give  up a 2nd or 3r rounder.

      I see most of this forum is fine with Ballard doing what Ballard's always done.   So I'll just remind everybody that he is 54-60-1 and he doesn't have the QB excuse anymore. If he thinks that playing conservative with trading back for more picks and the cap are always the way to go, then I just hope the fan base, and Irsay especially, make no excuses for how those picks work out (and how the top prospects that he didn't make moves for worked out). It's going to be incredibly easy to compare how his strategy works vs what the Texans and Jags have done in FA this year, and it'll be very easy to follow how MHJ,Nabers,Odunze and Bowers perform.

      MJH does not have elite speed. He didn't even run a 40. Nabors has elite speed but not size. Jones would have been a combination of both of them if u picked out their elite traits. Jones was like Calvin Johnson. Just  absolute freaks of nature that shouldn't be able to do what they do at that size.

      I think u r missing my point. Pick a player that fits and excels in your scheme. Guys like Nabers and MJH are freaks and r not scheme dependant. Think of the Rams. Kupp is good, but they dipped into the draft and amazingly draft another stud because he fits their scheme and does not have elite triats. It is similar to the way they draft corners. They r typical zone corners. U can let one-way if they want to much as u can go back into the draft and hopefully get another in the 2nd. That is my point.
