Where do we find these backup QB's?

Bengal's backup QB threw for 110 yards and a TD in the 1st half.  Harnish threw for a grand total of 14 yards.    He couldn't even throw a quick short screen to the TE without lobbing it over his head and out of reach.  This is painful to watch.  It's now his 3rd year on the team.  Shouldn't he be getting better with experience?  Grigson needs to cut him and sign another QB off the waiver wire.

Harnish is under constant pressure Rogers didn't come back for the ball not much effort IMO on the int for a td. We can't run the ball 23 for 61. The guy may suck but he isn't getting any help. Forgot the 5 sacks.

We give up a punt return td dude goes untouched until Pat took a swipe at the end. The good news is we keep practicing those quick screens to the WR. I will bet one gets taken to the house vs the Bronco's I know it the last preseason game but really Pep

Jeremy Hill from LSU looks really good that is going to be a nice combo Hill/Bernard in the backfield. The Bengals are going to be better this year. i predict the red rocket gets his first play off W maybe more than one.

Price may have just lost his chance at the PS.

Walker has looked pretty good again.

On the S watch Daniel Manning with the gift int td but had a descent game.

I am going to watch the condensed version too much buffering If they can't get the preseason right I am not wasting money on whatever NFL.com is selling for the regular season.

It looks like we are going to make it thru preseason without a big injury now if we can get to week 1 that way

Yeah, remember the "trade Hasselbeck" talk? That would make Harnish our QB if Luck missed a snap.

that was dummies being dumb like Matt wants to go anywhere else I bet he'd

have retired. Did you here the Rogers for a 5th. the trade trade fleener gang or my favorite trade for the expensive 32 yr old G

Pat is out kicking the coverage another long return

Figures...he was dubbed Mr. Irrelevant after all.

I dont think its a great idea to judge how a QB does in "preseason" with offense linemen and WR's that are going to be out of the league in 2 days..Remember Painter looked serviceable in the preseason..

You go watch Sorgi play in preseason and the few times he got to step in during the season. Sorgi does not belong in that conversation. He was a fine backup. Not the greatest, but he was a solid backup and apparently a good X's and O's guy.

Having a 3rd stringer that simply has no business being put out on the field is pretty much a league wide scenario, your just not going to find a lot of 3rd stringers that are good, There are a few that, Its preseason, your not going to get a lot of quality football once the 1st stringers sit, your going to get a lot of 3rd stringers making plays or looking bad against another teams 2nd-3rd  stringers, Is it frustrating? Absolutely, Some of these receivers simply don't have a real shot to make plays in the passing game.

So 3rd string WR's are good and 3rd string QB's are to blame? It is a great deal easier to perform as a WR than a QB simply because of the massive amount of info to process as a QB. But to blame QB's is misguided. If a WR was all that he should have been showing it all camp and maybe he would  be getting more quality playing time.

I agree that 3rd level QB's are a far cry worse than 1st's, but they are at the disadvantage of an inexperienced o-line just like the WR is disadvantaged.

Having Matt Hasselbeck pass to our 3rd string receivers as opposed to Harnish is still significantly different(Because Matt has the ability to put one of them wr's in the right position so he can make a play if the ball goes his way). Of course what a QB has to process is very hard but at the end of the day the best pass a QB can make is the one to an open WR(In most cases), Certainly a QB playing behind a 3rd string O Line makes it much more difficult and I don't think the playcalling has helped him quite enough, He is mobile and for him to have a chance right now Pep needs to take advantage of it more. No question a WR should have been showing his ability in TC but not all get the ball thrown there way either on 7-7 drills or 11-1 drills...And its safe to say Coaches grade based on more then how well a 3rd stringer produced of course, But still at the end of the day, A QB has to make his reads, If no one is open then he has 2 choices, Scramble or throw the ball away

I'm not that worried about having a capable QB3 this season, as Hasselbeck is clearly the back-up. I do hope the team looks into a QB with some backup potential for the practice squad. Hasselbeck is not going to be around forever and it's probably a good time to find his replacement. You're not necessarily going to find him, and indeed might draft his replacement or sign a vet in his place eventually, but I think it's wise to check out younger talent who might have a chance on the practice squad.

Personally, and not that it's worth anything, though guys like Chase Rettig, Brock Jensen, and Jeff Mathews had the makings of being long term backups if developed. They are all free agents now. Not that they are necessarily better than Chandler, but I think we know what he is now.

Yeah Harnish is so bad!! We have had the WORST 3rd string QB's in history!!

Painter and Harnish

Painter was our 2nd string QB. Orlovsky was actually our 3rd stringer. That's how arrogant Bill Polian was, because he didn't want to admit he wasted a draft pick on Painter, but hey, it netted us Andrew Luck, so whatever.

Remember when he hit Pam Oliver on the sideline during practice?

He has never been on the colts active roster during the regular season

Who said anything about the regular season? Im pretty sure everyone is aware of who our starter is. Is  that your way of making your point seem valid in this thread? At the time of this thread post, Harnish was an Indianapolis Colt QB "back-up" trying to make the regular season roster. Does that feel better?

Harnish needs to go.  We put 2 good years with him and he's not improved enough to where he could consider being a backup.  We just need to either sign one in FA or draft one.

There are a dozen back-end QBs in the league that have done better than Harnish this preseason. If it were up to me, I'd sign one of them to the practice squad rather than Harnish.
