Peyton Manning fined by the NFL

I'm sure he's going to be going broke real soon cause the NFL decided to fine their golden boy.

At least he got fined. I would had a real problem if he hadn't. Fair is fair when you consider 18 running the length of the field to voice his objections to the Wes Welker collision.

Peyton Manning notified by NFL he is fined $8,200 for taunting of DJ Swearinger. No appeal. Peyton: "I accept it. Money well spent."

Okay who else grinned when they read Peyton's response? :D

Oh, you know I did  ;)

Yeah, that clever response was pretty funny when you consider that Peyton was standing up for a teammate & $8,000 is a mere bag of shells to Mr. Manning.

I gotta admit that I enjoy seeing this fierce demeanor emerge from Mr. usually politically correct & public relations master. I love the moxy, mojo, & intensity of it.

It was which is why Brady apologized to Reed after the game. http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/54582/tom-brady-apologizes-to-ed-reed

Ed was pretty cool about it, but looking at it, he could have broke his ankle landing on Brady, or tore his ACL. Brady looked like a Rockettes dancer doing the cha-cha-cha ! One millimeter to the left, and Reed would have been talking in a high pitched voice. Those games with the Patriots matched the intensity of Baltimore- Pittsburgh. I hope we see more of them. If Brady and Suggs are still around, I'm sure we will.

I really think the reaction by Brady was instinctive because he saw Reed coming at him and he slid late. I really thought the fine was overboard as Brady was not even flagged on the play as he barely made contact with Reed. But you are right had Reed not moved, it could have been nasty.

When was kicking considered instinctive in football other than kicking the football :).

He deliberately lifted his leg up.

Yep. It was deliberate but reactionary to Reed coming toward him. This wasn't Suh intentionally kicking Shaub in the you know what. Brady was wrong for sure but he was not trying to hurt Reed. It was more to protect himself which is why he apologized to Reed after.

Too bad Peyton Manning made more than $10k reading the fine for $8k.

It was part of a plan by his publicity masters to get into the news as a bad boy.  Our culture in the USA is becoming more coarse every day. Peyton Manning was not hitting the thug demographic.  He didn't do this on his own, his momma didn't raise her boy to talk like that on TV. This was pure greed on Manning's part, at the behest of his publicists.  THAT is what he should get fined for.

D.J. Swearinger not fined for hit

Updated: August 29, 2014, 9:30 PM ET

By Tania Ganguli | ESPN.com

HOUSTON -- Texans safety D.J. Swearinger was not fined for a hit on Broncos receiver Wes Welker that drew a penalty last weekend, Swearinger told ESPN.com on Thursday night.

The safety made the hit with his shoulder but wound up colliding with Welker's head. The hit caused Welker's third concussion in nine months and he immediately left the game.

Denver quarterback Peyton Manning was so upset about the hit that he yelled at Swearinger, who is in his second season out of South Carolina, following the next play. Then, Manning received the first taunting penalty of his career. Manning was fined $8,268 for the taunt, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

"I believe that that particular hit was a bang-bang play where he was leading with his shoulder and at the last second Welk caught the pass and kind of ducked to make sure that he was protecting himself on the hit and it ended up being a shoulder into the head/neck area," Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Friday. "It was a very bang-bang play. Like I said last week, D.J. was not trying to do harm to anybody. D.J., in our building, has a good reputation as a guy that works extremely hard."

An NFL spokesman confirmed Friday that Swearinger drew no fine for the play.

    • You think the Ed Dodds you see in edited clips here is the same as the Ed Dodds who interviews with teams?   I don’t know you or anyone would think that?      He’s very much respected around the NFL which is why multiple teams ask to interview with them most every year.

    • Yeah... Richardson needs players who can separate and who can get open deep. IMO "give the inaccurate QB a contested catch receiver with large catch radius" is one of the tropes that hasn't proven to work well. Contested catches have about 50-55% success rate even with the best of contested catch receivers and with relatively accurate QBs... now if you think AR's accuracy is not good, drop that rate even more. The best way to give a relatively inaccurate QB better chance to complete passes is to give him a WR who separates and and who is open so the QB would have more of a margin for error to throw the ball a little behind or ahead or a little higher or lower than ideal. (we are not talking about uncatchable balls here... those will be uncatchable for anyone really). In that regard, one thing I would agree about is - we need WRs who have good hands and have good ball skills.   And this is ignoring that AR has indeed been pretty good with his accuracy on passes at intermediate and long range. His biggest problem coming into the league was the short stuff and he was already showing improvements in that deparment before he got injured.    And Worthy is the WR who created the most separation from anybody in this draft :
    • Richardson  accuracy  on deep balls is his strength.  Hence why you pair an elite deep threat in worthy.
