The Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent linebacker Robert Ruggiero and waived-injured linebacker Shawn Loiseau. If Loiseau clears waivers, he will revert to the Colts Injured Reserve list.

Ruggiero, 6-2, 245 pounds, was a tryout player during the Colts rookie mini-camp this past May. As a senior at Bridgewater State University last year, he was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year after totaling 44 tackles and 23.0 tackles for loss. Ruggiero also participated in the 2013 All American Bowl and earned the Jim Marshall Award as the top defensive lineman. He transferred to BSU following three seasons at Springfield College and in four collegiate seasons, compiled career totals of 47.5 tackles for loss and 22.0 sacks.

Loiseau was last signed by the Colts as a free agent on August 4. He came to the team from the LA Kiss of the Arena Football League, where he totaled 23 tackles (16 solo), four tackles for loss, 1.0 sack and two passes defensed in five games played.

Raw but the ability to accelerate quick is obvious, Will have to get stronger but shows ability to shed blockers, I could see him making an impact on special teams based on those abilities but uphill climb just to crack the PS

Raw is the best word to describe him but i like the guy, here's hoping he can make something happen.

Reminds me a bit of Jerry Hughes on the initial play in that clip, Jerry could get to ya quickly because of his speed or give chase but once he got to ya he had this bad knack for crashing into the ball carrier instead of wrapping up, He has improved in that area though as I expect Ruggeiro to as well, Whether that be for the Colts or another team, Hope wherever he goes he gets time to develop instead of just riding the bench

He shows a lot of skills but it is hard to determine his future from the clips due to caliber of the opponents

I somewhat agree but I don't necessarily think of small school teams as being low quality, I more try to focus on a players raw skills and for example if he is a linebacker or DE the ability to take good angles, wrap and such, Those abilities have nothing to do with quality of opponent really, Its all on the player to do those things, Now if he was lined up against some no name bum O Lineman then that obviously has to be taken into account or someone that is as slow as molasses and shows no explosiveness, I don't know, Im not as hard on small school players as some, I tend to go with my eye test, Biggest problem for him is time with playbook and lack of strength, He wont be able to shed blocks nearly as consistently as that clip shows, Some of that is bad O Line play to

I agree but it is hard to grade a player just on video if he plays at a smaller schools with inferior players

One of my duties when I coached and played was to scout/grade game film of the next opponent and it was often hard to get an accurate report if the scouting videos were against very weak teams

On more than one occasion the developed scouting reports said one thing(a la player A is unstoppable or Team is unbeatable) and come game time the player and/or team was a dud
