Training Camp Thread 7/28

I'm a long-time Stanford fan.    When the Colts drafted Andrew Luck,  I became a fan.

Coincidentally,   before the drafting of Luck,   I liked what I read about Grigson and Pagano when each was hired.    Which made liking the Colts even easier!

And the more I've learned about Indianapolis and the great state of Indiana,  I've become an even bigger fan.

So,  it's been a very nice first two years (plus) as a fan!

I've grown up here nearly all my life although I was born in Iowa so it's interesting to hear other people's impressions of the state.  When I was dating my wife we where long distance (she was in FL, me up here) and she took a bus trip up here a couple times (she's afraid of flying) and she said one time she heard some kids complaining "CORN! That's all there is is CORN EVERYWHERE!"

That's really the majority of Indiana.

Corn and soybean! That's what Indiana is and I feel most of the U.S. Views Indiana. Which I'm fine with.

We do have Hamilton County (where I live but extreme northern) which is one of the Top 10 Richest Counties in America so that helps!

But anywhere and hour plus from Indy is basically all farmland besides a couple cities a couple hours away.

Can't complain not a bad place to live (yet, Indy is getting bad) and we have great sports teams! :)

You have a lot of small and medium sized towns dotting the state too.  Many of them (especially the small towns) not even big enough to have a Wal-Mart  You don't see them much if you are on the expressway but if you get on the state roads you go through them.

Wow where you guys at?  I live on the Northern side of Indiana which is about 120 miles away and I often feel a bit far away from the team.

However to be fair I do think in the future I'll be able to make it to camp when the kid(s) are a little older.

This is all of course the negatives of being a fan of a small market team that doesn't have any real "media personalities" on it.  If you want the Colts to get wall to wall coverage . . . you should get Grigs to bring Tebow into camp.

I am in Alaska born in Indiana home at least once a year usually around Thanksgiving can get to a Pacer's game and Colts maybe even catch Irish football or an early IU bball game.

We get so drowned with Seattle sports it ridiculous.

I became a fan because of "parks and recreation" show :D

Pawnee rules! I'd love to visit someday...

Hate to break it to you but Pawnee is an entirely fictional town.  And that show is filmed in Southern California which is 2000 miles away from here.

I don't get how you survive winters up there.  Not so much the cold and snow but the dark.  Up here in the northern part of the state it gets to where it's only light between 8:30 AM and 5 PM and it depresses the crap out of me.

I can't imagine nearly 24 hours of dark.

I am in Anchorage you have to be a lot farther North for that. We get down to 10am to 4pm as the darkest day. It sucks that his why I come to Indy and always do the Hawaii trip.

I have to get out at least 2x a year I try to get to Oregon once too in the spring.  That is 3x in the winter. My whole family is in Indy so no hotel, rental car, or all the things that make a vacation expensive just gotta get there. Good friend in Oregon keeps the price of that one down too. Hawaii is the PFD check. The money the state gives us for living here. It is always tied to Alaska Airlines getaways usually special offers to Honolulu. They have a non stop flight.

Make good money and I would need a master's degree for this job in Indy couldn't get it with my Bachelors that's for sure. I am ready to get out probably to Oregon first. Parents and grandma getting up there a little bit. Be nice to be closer to home.

What gets me is the isolation more than the weather/dark. Our winter was probably more mild than what you guys had last year. It's the isolation we are a 3 hr plane ride just to Seattle. You jump in car drive for 12 hrs you are at the Atlantic Ocean I am not even close to Canada yet literally into the wild.

The isolation thing is true too.  I went to California once and flew over what seemed like a thousand miles of desert and because of that I felt pretty isolated while I was there even though I was in the most populous state in the country.

Travel helps I suppose.  I would ideally like to visit my In-laws in Florida every winter, but since we've been having kids it's made that difficult.  At best it's been like every other winter.

The worst thing about it quite frankly is that we have to drive 18 hours to get there.  As I mentioned earlier my wife is afraid of flying.  So we lose out on so much time that could be spent there because we are driving there.  But outside of the travel expense it's cheap because my in-laws give us a place to stay etc.

Wish there was more money flowing around here though.  South Bend area economy is rough, not a lot of good paying jobs.

Trent Richardson out once again...

Been a disappointing training camp so far for him! He has no excuses this season.

Why is he out this time? We got to question whether he wants to be a football player or not. It seems he's not loving the game or just doesn't have the desire to play the game. IMO

He's being held out due to hamstring issues.  Holding him out is a coaching/medical decision, not one he makes.

So a player missing practice means they don't wanna play football anymore?

Hamstrings can be worse than groins. They can last a very long time.
