Colts Training Camp Thread 7/24

If he hadn't slowed down for it he wouldn't have had to jump up for it at the end there. He would have had the ball fall right in the bread basket in stride. That's just a minor critique though. I'm sure the coaches will get him right. Good hands on the catch at the end.

Based on the video he probably would have had to slow down anyways, but I will say that it's apparent that he hasn't got a handle yet on how to make an over the shoulder catch.  Understandable however since he hasn't played organized football before.

You are there correct? Who has stood out to you so far?

Yeah! T.Y looks great , Reggie looks healthy, swoop has impressed me! Also like what Toler has done!

Offensive line is hard to tell without pads on... But I also like what Werner has done, he actually got an interception halfway through practice

Great to hear! Greg Toler is a solid #2 CB when healthy, hopefully he stays healthy!

I know some have said Nicks and Luck's timing looks off.  Any other words on him?

What about Arthur Jones?  How's he doing?  Havn't seen anyone mention him.

Darius Butler said he is the player most likely to start a fight lol

@JakeArthurISR: Jonathan Newsome recovers a fumbled snap

@Coltsfanwilson: The rookie Jonathan Newsome gets a talking too after going after a fumble too aggressively (they're not in pads today). #Colts

I get that you don't want anyone to get hurt but give the kid a break, he's trying to win himself a roster spot.

Now if Andrew Luck went after a fumbled snap aggressively I'd tell him to never do that outside of a game and in practice it's probably best if he just runs away from fumbles.  :-)

I do not like the way Reggie is favoring that knee at the very end of the footage.  He still looked like his old smooth self though.  Tony Washington running routes beside him.  Thanks for sharing.

I didn't notice that. And no problem.

Jonathan Newsome is like 90% sure to get a roster spot.

Really?

You're surprised?     I'm not sure why you would be.....    nothing these guys do or don't do surprises me anymore....

Landry has an on-going "soft tissue" issue....

And Davis?     Well, if his past is any indication,  he has a hamstring issue, or maybe a groin issue....   something....

It's always something.....

Davis probably just had to pee.

That's due to lack of experience. As he gets more reps and coaching, that should improve.

I really see Mewhort staying at LG and competing with Thomas.  I don't think last year soured the coaching staff on Thornton.  They threw him into a very bad situation: starting as a rookie...without a TC (injured)...on the wrong side of the line...without having practiced there.  I bet they keep Thornton as the starting RG, and they won't consider flipping Mewhort or Thomas there unless Thornton is very, very ineffective or gets hurt.

So you think Thornton will beat out Lance Louis. OK thanks.

I think Thornton beats out Mewhort for RG, assuming Thomas is indeed healthy and starts at LG.

I agree Mewhort will get looks at Center....   but to be the back-up to Holmes in case he gets hurt....

Just now waking up, but waking up to good news looks like so that's fine

Good to hear defense is shutting it down

You realize they're not in pads or hitting, right? Shutting it down may be a bit strong.

But it's good to hear they look like they know where they're supposed to be.

I appreciate that Chuck doesn't want to throw a former player under the bus,  but since Grigson has said it publicly,  Pags could've simply said,  he was hurt and not up to NFL game speed.    He wasn't able to play.     Something safe and generic.   That's been Grigson's comment all summer.

NOT a great quote.

No, Chuck was telling the truth. Satele had fewer (19) sacks hits and hurries than Alex Mack (25) last season. His run blocking (supposedly his strength) was poor but he Was playing beside AWFUL run blocking guards and had clueless Richardson making Everyone look bad. With NO REASON to believe a Rookie would be better, he respected HIS First Veteran FA signee by Not throwing HIM under the bus. Not hard for Samsons Teammates to undesrtand, and i bet they would hope for the same respect in that situation. We just have some _____ fans sometimes.

Not that i wanted Satelle back under any circumstances!! Or McGlynn!! ;)

McGlynn was the backup Center anyway.

Allen didn't look himself today! He kinda looked slow and hesitant.. He is just getting back into things I just noticed it a little. Anyone else at camp notice this?

At times he did look a little slow and hesitant. But I actually was quite impressed with him. He made some nice grabs and looked pretty fluid when running.
