I dont know how. you beat peyton by pressuring him, making him feel uncomfortable in the pocket, and disrupting his timing. to do all that, you need an effective pass rush which we dont have now for 4 games. its now gonna come down to luck outshooting peyton

I feel confident in Jones/Redding putting some pressure up the middle. Hopefully this could put him off a bit.

Well....the strategy has been proven time and time again. Break down their passing pocket and screw up Manning's timing, and physically punish him, and he turns into Clark Kent.

In fact....Seattle made him look like Lois Lane.

Doing it without Mathis won't be easy....but by no means should we throw up a surrender flag....we can beat those guys!

If the game were in Indy, with the crowd noise to disrupt Peyton's offensive shenanigans, we would stand a better chance.

The best thing we can hope for is their secondary in the slot (if Chris Harris and Talib play outside) can be exposed again and again and that T.Y. can get behind them and we hope for a close game in a shootout.

Points in the 30s from both teams, the question is, which team will make just a tad few defensive stops? We will wait and see.

Winning in Denver on the first Sunday night game of the season would be tough no matter who we had lined up on defense IMO..

Luck and the offense are going to have to put up "Star Wars" numbers for this one.. Definitely a shootout in my mind, just hope 12 out shoots 18.

& if we do happen to lose by 14-17 points, it isn't the end of the season

Manning will throw a pick 6 to end it

We have to keep in mind that this is game one for the Broncos so anything can happen. We need to stop this mentality of being scared of the big bad Broncos. We witnessed what happened in the super bowl so why not us beating them the second time? Next man up!

That is how you get to Manning is getting pressure in his face. I think we will be able to get there  along with many other teams.I really think the Broncos hurt themselves by not resigning Moreno. His pass blocking and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield will be missed. Ball puts the the rock on the carpet and is not great in pass protection.

I have seen that ending on more than one occasion he usually waits until the playoffs but I could see us getting one Howell will silence the critics week one. The Donkey's had their shot last year there is a new sheriff in town and his name isn't Reggie Hammonds.

Of course we can !!!  We beat them last season, granted it was on our home turf, but I feel we have the power with all of our additions to do it again this season.  I predict the Colts will hand the Broncos their 1st loss of the season, just like we did last year :)

Of coarse we can  #98 is a HUGE part of our defense But With Luck at QB T-rich at RB and our TE's Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener and who could forget our WR's

Reggie Wayne T.Y. Hilton Hakeem Nicks Donte Moncrief. don't forget that we signed Arther Jones who will be a major help and Vontae Davis and the under rated Darius Butler and a healthy Laron Landry (Dirty 30) ETC. I hope this made you realize that the Colts still have many pieces and don't forget #98 returns week 5

Denver is not a big deal to Indy...Houston and Tennesse are

...we don't play Denver mnuch so we don't have a mentality of being scared of them...

Odds are good that everybody loses at Denver..we need to go 6-0 in the division

With Clady back Mathis likely would have been reduced to a non-factor as a rusher and we certainly won`t miss him against the run.

Manning will likely start the season sharp so the big question will be the usual, can we run the ball decent and control the clock, and win the turnover and penalty battle. And ,will Luck improve his accuracy and timing this early in the season with his R core?

Gonna be tough if we don`t have all of our other projected D starters ready to go for that game.

Could have fooled me. There are quit a few fans in these threads who think that Manning and the Broncos are unbeatable at home against the Colts. I have seen a few post who think the Colts will be lucky to be 2-2 to start. I do agree we need to take care of our own division but all games are important in the sense of how the AFC always turns out. I would much prefer having home playoff games if that's the way it works out.

i don't know why people are scared of the eagles. We play them at home so we can slow down their offense. If we lose to denver we don't lose back to back games so eagles will get beat. Luck will have field day on eagles secondary.

Yes, but it does make things more difficult. Can't hide the truth here. Mathis played almost like a man on a mission vs. Manning at times in that game last season. Not to mention he is an awesome player in general and a team leader.

But, we do well as underdogs at times and we seem to have often played well vs. Denver. Our D will have to find a few ways to step it up. I am a bit worried about the secondary though in this game.....

And I already put this game ahead of time likely on our offense on the road. We should be healthy week 1 barring a preseason/TC injury on offense and will be in our second year with Pep so I feel expectations will be higher offensively this season.

This. I am not as high on the Eagles as many apparently are. And if we lose week 1 we likely don't lose week 2 at home. Besides, if you want to use the "We never lose back to back games yet with Luck" trend that hopefully continues.......well we may not lose week 1 either. :) Cause, we lost to the Pats in the playoffs and our next real game is the Broncos. lmao

We lost to the Ravens in 2012 in the playoffs and followed it up with a week 1 win over Oakland.

Roberto is a Pro Bowler. He will me sorely missed.....yes, we can still win by our secondary getting out the hickory on their WR's and our healthy D-line clogging the A and B gaps. Don't forget there is in infusion of talent at the LB position, and every one of them will want to show why they wont be the one that goes back to the bench when Robert resumes.

I smell a coming out party.......

This is what I am hoping for. I HATE that Mathis is out for 4 games but I HOPE these 4 games starting week 1 will help us develop more pass rush behind him. Because we need it.....we need more established depth.

    • Rick Venturi today on the radio said he is more of a fan of speed with corners then what Ballard has done. He said young corners have to be able to recover from mistakes. I would almost like rodgers instead of Brent’s.
    • BBZ, what do you mean when you say Brents will be successfully targeted because of his size and speed? Aren't those his good traits?
    • Right. But we also are expected to draft a corner, So the fact that DeJean can play either position, makes me think Ballard could have his eye on him.
    • As a Ballard type player, he seems to fit the bill.  Big 10. Excels at zone coverage. Elite athlete. Special Teams standout, Good tackler. etc. Colts may be able to trade back, and still land DeJean   Considered one of the Safest picks. Seven 2024 NFL Draft Prospects Who Are Safest Bets to Succeed at Next Level https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10113875-7-2024-nfl-draft-prospects-who-are-safest-bets-to-succeed-at-next-level   DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa   A fractured fibula during a November practice tempered any excitement regarding Cooper DeJean's draft status. So he's not been in the same conversations as the class' top defensive backs, specifically Toledo's Quinyon Mitchell and Alabama's Terrion Arnold. DeJean's profile projects just as well or better than the aforementioned cornerbacks.   Three specific attributes set DeJean's floor higher than anyone else among the back end.   First, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year presents the positional flexibility and traits to start at cornerback or safety at the professional level, with B/R's Cory Giddings highlighting his coverage skills:   "DeJean excels in zone coverage, but he's versatile enough to play man as well. He shows a smooth backpedal and the ability to keep his leverage and quick footwork with few wasted steps. Although he transitions well, there are times where DeJean hops into his breaks; allowing a step of separation.   "When in zone, DeJean does a great job of reading and reacting to the quarterback's eyes. Pairing that skill set with his route recognition, he often puts himself in good position with leverage and positioning.   "While working downfield, DeJean has the strength necessary to hand-fight with tight ends and bigger receivers, as well as the speed necessary to carry twitchier receivers downfield. He also does a very good job of locating the ball and playing through the catch point."   Second, the high school track standout is an elite athlete who captured Iowa state titles in the long jump and 100-meter dash. Many expected him to blow the doors off Lucas Oil Stadium. Unfortunately, he wasn't ready to test in Indianapolis after being cleared a few weeks earlier.   "His acceleration is incredibly fluid and super powerful," NFL combine trainer Jordan Luallen told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman last summer. "He's the best athlete I've seen in person, pound for pound."   Finally, DeJean adds significant value as an elite collegiate returner. Big Ten coaches also awarded him Return Specialist of the Year this past season. DeJean averaged 13.1 yards per punt return over the last two seasons. A top-notch contributor anywhere along the defensive backfield and on special teams will provide excellent value in the NFL.   Potential Landing Spots: Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles
    • He could, but I think he's way more athletic than people give him credit for and projects way better as CB. Definitely could be a good safety, but I think if we drafted him, he fits well as a boundary corner for us.
