I have negligible interest in the private life of either QB. It was obviously an allusion to his famously changing partners in a manner that infuriated gossip column devotees around the country, but the reality is that I'm more likely to be infuriated by the fact that gossip columns exist in the first place than by the details contained therein. It's a waste of precious brain space.

Not sure any sports network is doing their job if they just cover the play on the field. We all want to know our athletes off the field so I think this is par for the course. And really they were just reporting on a statement that was released by Wilson.

100% correct. Some seem to forget that with the number of sports shows on, it is all a ratings game. A lot of these shows have turned into nothing but gossip venues but are watched never the less.

Speak for yourself.  I don't hold athletes or coaches on a pedestal, so I find coverage of their personal life to be boring and completley irrelevant.  It makes no difference to me if the players behave like Andrew Luck off the filed, or like pacman jones.  I watch sports for the play on the field, with most of the play being interesting because of the structure and the strategy involved, which then makes it difficult for players like pacman jones to be interesting at all.

I am with you for the most part. I care about the play on the field but I do like hearing about players work in the community, etc. I was more speaking for fans that want to know their athletes off the field. I think that is a natural part of being fan. That being said, I don't like the gossip and scuttle but that is pretty much the media at large these days. But the networks are also trying to get the fringe fans so when athletes like Tebow come along they exploit for all its worth to make money which really is the end game.

I think it has to do with marketing the team.  The tactic is to become more celebrity focused, with the QBs filling the role as star and community leader/ role model.  Their lives are becoming more public.

 

Its the same concept has the Manning/Brady argument, where they are supposedly competing with each other for success.  The media tries to market the situation like a boxing match, which is simpler to understand than a team game that has 42 other moving parts to analyze.

Quite frankly I hate divorce no matter what.  At best it's a necessary evil but quite frankly most times it's not.  Most times it's someone who has decided that "for better or worse" isn't worth it.

 

That having been said at the same time I also understand why people are being so negative to her despite not knowing anything.  It's a sad reality that divorces rarely turn out well for men.  No matter what the circumstances women usually walk away with the kids and the house.  For many men a divorce is essentially their wife deciding she's bored and kicking him out of the family only to have the TV and the media applaud her for her courage to become a single mother because her husband wasn't fun enough.  (Ever heard of "Eat Pray Love"?  The entire book, applauded by the media is about a woman who gets bored with her husband and takes a trip around the world after she divorces him.)  

 

And every man who's married knows that if she's unhappy for any reason legit or not, you're unhappy with half your stuff in a studio apartment and seeing your children 2 weekends a month (if you are lucky).  This is something every married man and especially every married father is extremely aware of.  It's also a reason why father's statistically almost never file for divorce, but mothers often do.

 

Anyways there is a lot of male resentment about family courts that gets played out when this comes up.  Even if you've never been divorced, if you are married with kids you know that she doesn't need a reason to kick you out of the family, she just can. 

 

As far as Wilson he likely made the right decision if he's just looking out for himself.  But looking out for himself isn't what he promised her in 2012.
